Saw a new neuro today...

He is pretty certain that my PN was caused by a jellyfish sting I received 6 days prior to the onset of my PN. His diagnosis is based on the rapid onset of the PN and the fact that I had no PN symptoms prior to the string. All of the 6 other docs I have seen said the jellyfish did not cause this.

He sent his assistant off to do some research to see if there were any known cases off PN caused by a jellyfish string. She did not find anything in her research. I'm not sure what I think now. Have you guys heard anything like this?

Also, he said to see my gastro doc and get checked for celiacs. He also asked had I been checked for "spree." Anyone heard of that? He was so focused on the jellyfish that I forgot to ask what spree is...

I searched it and found only acute references. Not long term
damage.

If you were in the area, you could have eaten fish?

Most of what I found describes local effects on only the area stung (mononeuritis) and some
autonomic reactions for the more dangerous venoms.

But in the end there is no real answer. I developed hypertension following
a severe Staph infection from a black fly bite. My doctor still thinks my early
onset hypertension was due to that serious infection.

I would seriously question the jellyfish thing.

Celiac disease is a possibility, and he meant, 'sprue'...Celiac sprue.

Celiac sprue to have neuro symptoms. Acquired gluten intolerance may test negative for Celiac.
