Default Bone Marrow Test ? anyone had one

I was referred by my neurologist to a hemotologist becauseI had three (during last 12 months)different light chain Kappa Lamda test where the ratio was abnormal. The neurologists where more exited by these results than the hemotolgist. In fact a friend whose a hemotolgist told me no big deal.
The blood work was done at Mayo. Since three times it was abnormal I did have a full body cat scan which was normal. Now my neurologist has talked with the hemotolgist and got him to agree on doing a bone marrow test.
I believe the neurologist is thinking lymphoma or amyloid. I was reading the thread on amyloid and no one mentioned a bone marrow test. So I am lost as to why I need one now.
1. Has anyone had one and if so what happens.
2. I'm thinking I won't do it because I am afraid of pain and tired of being tested.
Oh I have PN for 16 months now, not diabetic, probably small fiber , lots of pain , extreme fatigue and no diagnosis. Acute onset now chronic.
