Default Whoooo! At least the days will get longer?

I'd do a jig, but probably fall over?
Cycleops - please check out Mrs D's threads on her visor light? I'm seriously thinking this mite help me w/the 'blues' Anything is worth a try once?

Melody? Understand about the 'music'! Started to hear the 'Chipmunks' the day before Thanksgiving! Sent me into a funk rite there and then! Yesterday the songs were all by great but dead singers? From Gene Autry to Karen Carpenter! All I could think of was is: Nothing new is good? HUH? Granted I like the older songs, but..... One dead singer after another on the intercom isn't my cuppa tea!

As you said 'C'... We are now gonna GAIN daylight for quite a while. I do like that concept!
Happy or somethings? - j

PS? Actually got a REAL tree and it's trimmed and lights are up! Cannot say how MUCH this helps the spirit and the heart. LOTS of lites and tinsel strands... Sparklies in the right place!

Oh my goodness. dead singers!!! never even thought of that. I've been hearing Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole everywhere I go. Never thought of them as DEAD.

Good Lord lol

Oh, I just finished watching Duel in the Sun (with Jennifer Jones (she's still alive), Gregory Peck (he's not), Joseph Cotten (he's not either), and Lionel Barrymore (he couldn't be deader if he tried).

lol

Default I can empathize--

--with those who find the holiday season just a tad overbearing, and overlong.

A lot of this has to do with economics, of course; in the words of Tom Lehrer--
"Angels we have heard on high, tell us to go out and buy . . .
God march ye merry merchants may you make the Yuletide pay . . ."

For those with a touch of bah humbug, may I humbly suggest celebrating Festivus:

Well, I love Christmas, I love hearing Christmas songs, I would listen to them all year long!!! I have a Jewish boss and we do not get to listen to much Christmas music in the office. I miss it! I do agree, it has become to commercial, and the stores have Christmas out before Halloween, yet I never tire of seeing Christmas items.

I've never said, "Bah humbug", it's not in my vocabulary!!!!

Merry Christmas!

Dahlek, I have a full spectrum light and have had it for years....bought it way back when, 15 some years ago, when it had to come from Canada and cost a fortune.

I am not sure where it is sitting right now. I know I need to drag it out. Thing is you are supposed to use it in the morning....ugh, I want to sleep in.

You know that is the one drawback about moving south....you get LESS sunlight in summer....hmm. LOL, you just can win.

Mel,
I am having a pretty good holiday season, but, hey Mel, get me looking at pics from long ago, and I can fill the room with enough tears to produce a biblical flood. I am a crier....good times, bad times...boo hoo. It is embarassing. I cry during commercials, movie trailers....not to mention movies. I sob.

We have some family situations that are difficult, but, it comes with the territory. When you adopt 4 special needs kids on top of 4 birth ones....no, life won't be easy....it isn't like in the movies....it isn't like on TV.

I have a daughter in Afghanistan this year. She has learned what family means now...even tho I wasn't her birth mom...boy, I look good to her now. It also means another year of worry, no, not as bad as the Iraq saga...her situation is different than my son's, who was very much on the 'front lines' if you can call it that. But my son has moved onto marriage and now very soon to fatherhood, a sweet little girl soon will be here.

We have many struggles going on in our gigantic family, this is life, and it doesn't stop because it is Christmas or Hanukkah. Well, you know what I mean. At times we resemble a slightly better off Kratchet family (Scrooge?)...'God bless us, every one'.

Lots of people have troubles with holidays, Mel, and I understand your situation. What we see on TV is not reality and it is a shame we get bombarded with these images. Who buys a Lexus for Christmas??? Really! If I am supposed to buy hubby a Lexus...man, am I a loser....we are driving a Ford and Toyota into the ground, and it is getting close...pretty soon we will be like Fred Flintstone...using our feet! Maybe after Christmas we can stimulate the economy if we can get a car loan....otherwise, hubby can commute 60 miles one way on bicycle...eh, I will worry about that later.

I know many other people would be thrilled to have the love and generosity you have to give.

Default well...

My MIL died. It was not a surprise and she went easily.
A month after a bleed. She was almost 94. It is still sad and affecting me.

I have only had to use my visor twice a week so far. I am much better this season. I wonder if it is because of the 4000 IUs of D3 I am now using (up from 2000 IUs from last year).

My doctor switched one of my blood pressure meds to Imdur (a nitrate), and I find that my pressures are better, and my cold hands and feet seem better. It is so cold this season here already... my feet in the last month or so were getting really bad.

I am not a big fan of Xmas either. But I do like some music, just not all the time. I am staying away from shopping. We give to the Salvation army yearly and this year we are just giving checks to close family. I made a crystal ball for my good friend.

I hope everyone here has a nice holiday season.

Default Holidays always bring good and not so good...

emotions over time. Remember when you were a kid? And your only worry was WHAT Santa or whoever would leave for you that you really wanted.
You know? I still have a beautiful red wool sweater my brother gave me when I was 14? And, it still fits! Wearing it brings back some of those simpler memories.
So many of my friends and family have died around this time of year, so Mrs D, I truly understand. Also thanks for the hint about upping the Vit D! I've GOT TO do this!!!
Deb? This IS the time of year for optimism and crying, Cycleops and Deb? It IS allowed around now. Don't be shy about it all.
Mel? Just enjoy what ever can bring you some joy!
At times like this? I remember my holidays when my parents lived in the Caribbean. Going from blustery snow, cold and wind to sunny skies and clear blue waters - waking up to see the Tall Ships sail into the harbor from afar puts you into a different state of mind. Not to mention the Spanish Galleon! Was lolling on the beach one day and a bunch of parachutists landed almost on top of us! The poinsettias there are maintained as large hedges, and 10 foot aloe plants were painted silver and strung with lights in the front yards. Not to mention the steel drums playing Carols in the Cathedrals! And, the buzz of hummingbirds on the porch flower baskets. It keeps me warm on cold days. Hope it all does the same for you?
We may all be in different places or situations, but there are good things to remember that can help make you happy. HAPPY to all!!!! 's - j

Default Celebrate the reason for the season.

I join in the festivity of the holidays to be with family and friends but i celebrate the birth of my savior Jesus. Years ago he saved my life so i beleive and witness to people ever since.

Try it and you may be surprised and happy.
