I've also read that generic Neurontin doesn't work as well as the brand-name. What's the cost of brand-name Neurontin compared to Lyrica? And which one will make me bigger?

Weight gain for both is about the same. I gained 25-30 lbs (I fluctuate).
On my 6'1" frame, normally at 225-230- its only a 10% gain and I've had 'a belly' before, just not as much. At 65, I can live with it as a trade-off for pain management. With me, causes carb cravings, (I'm a chocoholic, too) some get edema and should stop.

Any opinions on Neurontin an anxiety? I know Lyrica is indicated for this. Help for anxiety, and especially insomnia, is a big issue for me.

I've been on Lyrica for 3 years. Weight gain can be a side effect. But, for me....at 6'5" and 250, I was able to go on the South Beach Diet and lose 36 pounds. I know you want to gain weight, but for many it is the opposite issue. However, I do believe it is the carbo craving that causes the weight gain. It can be managed. No insomnia or anxiety on Lyrica. Neurontin also was okay as far as anxiety and insomnia.

I am on serequel and klonopin for my anxiety. I am still anxious but much better then before and my moods are much more even. My sleep is horrid though. Beyond horrid. A lot of people get help from serequel at night for sleep though. There are other meds I am trying as well for sleep and some are for anxiety you can ask your doctor about, trazadone, ambien cr,lunesta, ativan. Really I think one needs a combo of meds in most cases. Obviously not all of the ones together I stated but like neurontin and then ativan for sleep etc

I got prescribed generic Neurontin yesterday cause my doc has no experience with Lyrica. It was 100mg and I'm supposed to move up to 300 eventually. I took it 2 hours before I went to bed and it felt nice. Could immediately feel the difference in my hands and feet and I still feel it this morning. Though it left me really groggy this morning and I get up three hours later than I wanted. I hope that goes away. Question: Does Neurontin increase the conversion rate of Glutamic Acid to GABA like Lyrica does? |

OneScrewLoose,
I find it odd that you have a bad case of PF in the fact that your under weight so much. How did you get the PF?

When I was 4 I sprained my ankle and my mom wasn't strict enough and didn't force me to sit down. As a result, I started walking with my right foot sticking to out 45 or more degrees instead of forward. As I grew, my whole leg grew out like this, so when I put my feet forward my right knee sticks out. This creates an imbalance on the way I walk on my right foot. Everything was fine until when I was 16, when I did the one bunny hop on a diving board before I dived. All of a sudden my right foot really started to hurt. Ever since then, it's been painful, but for four years I didn't pay attention to it because I had some many other, worse pains going on in me (the undiagnosed celiac was excruciating). Instead, I just learned to sort of walk on my toes and heel on my right foot for years. Whenever I walked my toes were scrunched in. I've undone that now that I am taking care of it. I also am doing Pilates to fix the alignment. I did a lot of acupuncture on my foot, which helped a lot, but did not cure it. I also wear expensive (and ugly) running shoes and $30 Superfeet insoles. It's still there and will not go away, despite wearing a stupid foot brace at night. 5 years of this BS.
Anyway, I am taking 100mg of Neurontin twice during the day, which makes me a little spacey when I first take it, but really helps me eat. I thinking I am gaining weight again which I am really happy about, and I am walking around the house barefoot right now. It still bothers me, but it's better, and I expect to go higher when my body can tolerate it. I would really like to try Lyrica though. |
