Well our hummingbirds have left for the season, and I found this cute video to remind me of them during the coming winter.
. This is a nest that an artist filmed showing the little ones growing up. It is pretty long, and there are some of the artist's sculptures mixed into it, but it is very nice to watch. There are other videos on YouTube you will find also.

Mrs. D. !!
Your hummers just arrived! They started hitting the feeders in my backyard (a bit north of Galveston) last week!!! Everyone made the trip just fine - - but they were / are very hungry!! Hubby and I will provide until they cross Gulf (although last year they stayed all winter since we never hit freezing temps). If they do cross Gulf, will let you know when they are heading back your way (usually they are back again mid- or end of Feb for 4 - 6 weeks) Sue |

I learned that most hummingbirds die of a heart attack! Their little hearts beat so fast that one day they just can't take it anymore. Sorry to be so morbid! They ARE beautiful.

I have seen a recent picture of a hummer in "torpor". This is when it gets too cold for them in the early morning. They can die at time too. . One of the most recent Bird and Bloom's magazine has a picture of a hummer hanging upside down, in torpor. I can't find it online, but this one is close. . hanging upside down: .
