There's a breed factor with many dog breeds on top of their size. For example, while most breeds mature in 1-2 years, many sources agree Labbies don't mature for anywhere from 4-7 years (and some owners claim longer than that!

According to the chart in the article he was 100.

I think a cat over 20 is probably over 100 in human years based on this scale.

Keep in mind that the scale is more an organic age determinant.

Behavioral, and learning ages may vary by breed and species, considerably. The various dogs and cats(less so) bred for certain purposes, will show talents in certain areas, but the body will age more or less according to some of the statistical scales are show up now and then. Large dogs live less long than smaller breeds I think. And some breeds prone to disease like cancer, get cut even shorter. Golden retrievers may fall in this category.

Working dogs with genetic breeding...like the border collies, that shepherds use, have memory and spatial abilities that some other dogs may not have. Same with German shepherds.

The brain capacity is more of an indicator of intelligence and
that "age" may be very different from the organic body age of the bones, organs and other parts of the dog or cat.

We have been lucky with 3 cats over the past 40 yrs. Our first black kittie, lived to be 19. That was very old back in the 70's and 80's! Lately our beloved Sheba and Tippy lived very long lives also (24 and 20)..both were black as well.

Thank you. I think if he hadn't gotten the last infection, he would have lived even longer. Just one week before I had to put him to sleep, he was walking on a leash with me like always. He had a reoccuring **** gland infection, I think It was the 4th time. He was in pain with it, and too old for the surgical correction. gosh I miss the boy so much. I really had a bond with him, more than any other in my life. 100 years was a good age Kitty, I was blessed to have him in my life. He went on my small motor cycle with me, I have pictures of it. Boat, plane, train, bus, cycle, car, he was a traveling kitty; A rich and exciting life. ginnie
