Ok..now it don't know if it's a wedding or not... maybe a beauty contest or graduation...but the main girl is up there in a white gown and looks like she has a flower girl.

They had a beautiful day for it too!

There is another falcon cam:

.

This one is very popular locally...and the eggs are due to hatch any moment.
Right now the mother Falcon has been sleeping on them alot! LOL

By this time next week we should see a new eagle chick at Norfolk!
It has been a LONG month!

Thumbs up WhooooHooooo !

Finally, this was a LONG time coming.

I watched all weekend and suspected activity, but missed the actual hatching shown in the video below:

Here is a video of the hatching.

.

You can view annava's other pictures at that photobucket site too.

It looks like the female eats the old egg...getting her calcium back.

If you watch very carefully you can see the parents walking on their knuckles while in the nest.
It shows up pretty clearly during some of the videos. This is to prevent the talons from hurting the chick.

Wink feeding the chick...

I just watched both parents feed the chick!

The Dad handed over pieces of fish to the Mom and she gave it to the
chick! A real family endeavor!

How different from the Blackwater chicks, whose father ignored them and the mother for many days, and forced her off the nest to get her own food.
Some of the people working on that cam thought the chicks would die of exposure!

This Dad eagle however, really built up that nest after the early problems with intruders. The walls are so high you can only see the top the chick's head!
The camera angles are not as nice as last year's nest. But at least we have one chick, now, after all that drama!

As the chick grows, its crop get bigger, so feedings are larger and stored in the crop. So it is less easy to catch a feeding on the video.

These very early days with this new chick there will be frequent feedings, so viewers here may be lucky and get watch some live.

Here is Ann's video on photobucket of the Mom and Dad feeding the chick this morning...

.

Ann has also provided many YouTubes over the years...she is devoted and a great nature lover, and talented too.

Lightbulb slideshow for 4/30

There are some really cute slides in the slide show for 4/30
showing the chick pretty clearly.

.

This babe is pretty active. I've watched several feedings now, and he is
very eager for the food, and grabs it right out of the parent's beak!

It is so nice to see Dad Eagle helping so much. The other cam at Blackwater,
was not like this at all. That male there was not helpful at all, and the survival of the chicks at one point was in doubt!

Thumbs up today's feedings are just amazing..

You know last year I missed the really small chicks..since I had to work.

Today the feeding by the parents is just fantastic. You can see the little guy's head and face now and he seems very active and healthy.
Sometimes he looks right at the camera!

Default Eagle Cam Chat room

Has anyone else gone into the actual Live Chat for the Eagle Cam at Norfolk?
I was in there tonite, there were 20 people in there, many away.
The ones that WERE there were just so rude and such. It sounded like a bunch of teens. No talk about the eagles or anything of that matter. A lot of teasing one another and cursing with using different letters so it wouldn't be blocked as words. I was accused of "being a baby that was dropped on my head when I was born" !!!!
Just wondering if Norfolk Botanical Gardens knows of what all's going on in their "live chat"?????
