What an adorable kitty! It looks like a torty to me, so beautiful.

I was always a "dog person", never saw much use for cats. But after being sick for so many years, as well as suffering from "empty nest syndrome", lol, I found myself at the pound. I was going to "settle" for a cat, as I didn't think it would be fair to any dog to live in an apt. with two people who were too sick to walk it regularly. A cat made more sense.

I picked a calico, her name is Squeakers. She had only been there 24 hours, so I had to go back 2 days later to get her. I had already gotten everything a cat could wish for, lol, so we were set.

Then I gave her her first meal. Both wet and dry, side by side. She sniffed, looked at it, sniffed some more... then started to cry. It didn't take me long to realize that she had NOT been weaned, just ripped away from her mommy! (I later learned from the vet she was only 5 weeks old) She had not eaten in 3 days, she didn't know how. I spent the next three days syringe feeding her while teaching her to eat on her own. That cemented our bond, of course... I really WAS her mommy now
.

She has brought more joy to my life than I can ever say. You all know exactly what I mean, no need to explain!

Then, almost a year later, I noticed a pregnant stray on our block. I fed the poor thing daily, all I could do for her as she didn't want to come in. She and Squeak hated each other, it wouldn't have worked real well anyway, lol.

I tried for a month to figure out where that cat was staying, to no avail. With my rsd making walking rough, and the aids making being outside in the snow dangerous, I couldn't do as much as I wanted to.

Finally, she got skinny and I freaked out. It was the middle of winter in Idaho, what was going to happen to those poor kitties?!? It took me longer than was healthy, but I did it... I found them. They were almost a month old by that time.

Next step was to get the lady whose apt had the trap door to the crawlspace to let me come in and use it. I must have looked ridiculous, crawling on that dirt floor "meowing", lol.

I found 6 kittens, 4 plain black ones, one torty and one tuxedo. They were as feral as you can get, of course. I will never forget the tuxedo (he was the runt of the litter), hissing and spitting at me. He must have weighed all of two lbs, lol... but with the attitude of a professional fighter!

His name is now Groucho
.
and he has been my cuddle-muffin lap warmer for almost 4 years now. I never expected him to be so affectionate, with his feral start and all, but he is 10 times as sweet as Squeakers. She's the feisty one now, go figure.... but I love her spirit.

I can't believe that I was so stupid as to think I was "settling" for a cat, lol! Now the saying "cats rule and dogs drool" makes perfect sense.

That's a neat story Rogue. Sounds like me. When I took Annie in, my feral, that was a long hard road, similar to your's. She was pregnant as well and it was getting cold. But luckily, I was able to befriend her after she came her to eat for several weeks. Finally got close enough to me I could grab her and took her in, LOL.

She's a lover, but she's also still quite feral when it comes to other cats. It's her way or the highway. She wears the jewels and the crown. She tortured my poor Sweetie Pie, whom I had to put down last year because of colon cancer obstruction. She bit Sweetie Pie seriously and her wounds became extremely infected in a short time. It was awful. She just couldn't tolerate Sweetie Pie at all.

She does tolerate the other cats, and now here's my new Gracie, and Gracie just will NOT leave Annie alone, LOLOL! She's always pursuing her and jumping at her and pawing her and chasing her. But maybe that's a good thing because Annie will see her grow up to be a cat and have known her. She does seem to semi-tolerate Gracie even to the point of taking submissive cat positions.

Thanks for sharing your story. I'd like a dog as well but can't have one where I live. If I could, it'd be a small dog. But they take so much attention as compared to cats.

I just loved reading all of these stories.,
Your new kitty is just adorable Doodysis
.

I'm sure she has a wonderful home with you and your other furbabies.
Sounds like they are all adjusting well too!
My old kitty Felix still wont accept our new babies-they are now 8mnths old
.

We have lil spats all day long here...I dont like it when they fight-but thankfully so far-nothing serious!
Give Gracie a big hug for me..
Take care

What a gorgeous kitty! I have a new kitten named Rocky.
.
He's eight months old now. I got him from the local homeless shelter. Our last cat Sweet Pea died late last summer, she was ~20 years old and the baby of the family. I swore I'd never get another cat because of allergies, then I walked into the shelter and fell in love...

Isn't it strange how cat's eyes look that way in a flash picture? I noticed that recently.

She's a real sweetie!

I've got two cats - a mother an son pair called Minnie and Eric. Both are really affectionate and love cuddles - Eric is sitting on my arm and 'playfully' clawing at my chest as I write this

Doody, is that you or your daughter? If that's you, you're a young-looking grandma!
.

Rocky fetches like a puppy. He has these little sparkle fuzzy balls he chases and brings back..
.
He stops along the way to bite it and attack it and then drops it near my feet most every time... Although each night I need to get the yardstick out and retrieve his collection from under the couch and stove...
.
That's one of the highlights of his day.

BTW, Rocky is my "grandchild" fix until I get lucky enough to have a real one!
.
Your grandson is a cutie.

Definitely my daughter!
.

I know those sparkly little fuzzy balls you're talking about! They're so cute. And yes, broom...yardstick - using them all the time to get all the toys out from under the couch! LOL

And thank you, yes. My grandson is one heckuva cutie!
