Hi nohope,
Mrsd asked me to stop by. I'll give you a quick history... July 2001 dx'd with breast cancer ~ 2 surgeries ~ A/C chemo ~ 47 rounds radiaiton February 2005 ~ I started taking flaxseed oil & cottage cheese (it's the sulfrated protein in the cottage cheese that is beneficial) because I wanted to be an encouragement to my *then* 12 yo son who I insisted take it to lower his cholesterol, triglycerides & lipoprotein (a) numbers to avoid medications for heart disease and diabetes (which it did, it lowered his cholesterol and triglycerides by 100+ and his lipoprotein (a) by 17 in just 2 months ~ this child's geneticist now takes fso and cc daily!) March 2005 ~ had my first bone scan ~ scan revealed a large lytic lesion (active cancer eating away the bone) on T10, a birth defect (missing wedge of bone) on T11, something on L1-S5 (radiologists argued whether it was a blastic lesion or osteoarthritis) and HUNDREDS of areas on legs, ribs and skull where new bone growth was occurring in what appeared to be lytic lesions healing. They could not figure out why the cancer was healing without medical treatment. I knew the answer. The only thing I was doing different was taking the flaxseed oil/sulfrated protein. I asked for my prognosis (I have to know, that's just me). They gave me 2 - 3 months to live withOUT chemo and radiation and 5 - 6 months to live WITH chemo and radiation. They told me that once the cancer metastaticizes to the bones, there is no medical treatment available to preserve life, the only thing they can do is buy me time with chemo/radiation. And that time is short. Just a few extra months. I refused chemo. Been there done that and it's not for me. For my husband's sake, I did accept 10 rounds of radiation on T10 and L1-S5. I only did this to bring some type of peace of mind for him. Poor guy fell apart when I refused chemo. So, here we are 3 YEARS later, and I have just received my recent bone scan and CTscan reports. I am cancer free and in addition, that birth defect on T11 no longer exists. New bone has grown where none was at birth. There is no evidence of ever having lesions on my legs, ribs and skull. There is evidence of radiation on T10 and L1-S5. In March 2005, when I found out the cancer had metastaticized, I increased the amount of flaxseed oil and cottage cheese I was taking. I went from 2 tablespoons fso and 1/4 cup cc once per day to 3 times per day. I did that for a year. Now I'm back to once per day. nohope, I do not think that you poisoned yourself and your beloved dog. There are some possibilites. ~ you may both coincidentally have a flu bug ~ you may both coincidentally have a malabsorption problem ~ you may not be taking a "good" form of flaxseed oil where the omega 3's, 6's, and 9's are distributed properly ~ as mrsd mentioned, you must have a higher amount of 3's than 6's ~ you may be taking too much at one time ~ you may have a flu bug and your beloved dog may just be sick from her cancer I read here, on different threads, until 3 this morning. So I'm not sure where I read that people are taking the fso in capsule form and that they are taking 2 or 3 capsules a day. Now, while I believe that any amount of fso taken by someone who is not combating cancer, diabetes and heart disease is beneficial and a great preventative, I don't think 2 - 3 capsules is what you need if you are actively fighting these diseases. I think I read on the label for the capsules that 2 - 3 capsules is equivalent to 1 tablespoon oil. Or maybe it was 1 teaspoon oil. Dr. Budwig makes it clear that you need to take 2 - 3 tablespoons of fso several times a day if you are actively fighting cancer. Just an FYI, Dr. Budwig ONLY endorses "Barlean's" brand fso due to the way it is processed. The other brands are not cold-pressed and processed in a way that preserves the benefits of omega's. So research and rethink that. My mom has a malaborption problem and cannot take fso. It sits in her stomach for about a week and then all comes back up. Are you vomiting just the fso? If you have not yet read Dr. Budwig's book, "Flax Oil As a True Aid Against Arthritis Heart Infarction Cancer and Other Diseases", I highly suggest you do. It is very imformative and gives you the information you need regarding how much to take. You can buy it on amazon for $6.95 If you are having a tough time taking the oil off the spoon, then you can make a smoothie with it. My husband and son mix 3 tablespoons fso, 1/4 cup cottage cheese, milk, whey protein and fresh fruit in a blender to make a smoothie. They love it. I prefer to take it off the spoon, wash it down with milk and then immediately eat the 1/4 cup cottage cheese. As for Nina, most dogs like cottage cheese. And it is good for them. Easy on digestion so works great for sick dogs. We have a german shepherd who is very finicky, like Nina. He won't eat his dog food mixed with cottage cheese and fso, but he will eat his dog food with the fso sprinkled over it and then eat the cottage cheese separately. He will also eat the fso and cottage cheese mixed with a little dog food only if we sprinkle parmesian cheese on it. I call him spoiled . Regarding dog food, did you know that by the time most dog foods are processed, put in bags, delivered to various cities across America and get to the store shelf that they are up to a year old? Yikes! If you are looking for a dog food that is very healthy and freshly made, then you should consider Life's Abundance. It is the only dog food that we feed Duke Ellington (our german shepherd, who is my son's service dog ~ my son has cerebral palsy and an overgrowth syndrome) and the only dog food we feed our rescue dogs and puppies. It also contains flax in an amount that is healthy for dogs and puppies. You can find it here: healthypetnet.com/thedoglady (because I am a new poster, I can't post links... I hope this works) I'm not sure that I have answered any of your questions through my rambling here, but please feel free to ask anything. I will answer the best I can. I wish you and Nina all the best. ~Pansy~ |

Pansy, you are wonderful and an inspiration. I however am devastated. My dog is back at the ER in critical condition and may die from this. As I type this, I am again ready to throw up. To sum it up in a nutshell I over d both of us. I just need everyone's prayers right now for Nina. I am sorry I cannot continue.

nohope,
I have just spent hours on the net searching for information on flaxseed oil overdoses and flaxseed oil and dogs. I cannot find anything that would indicate that it is not okay to give dogs flaxseed oil. On the contrary, I did find several articles that discussed the benefits of flaxseed oil for dogs and a couple of articles that state that dogs were cured of cancer with the administration of flaxseed oil. In addition, I can't figure out why you think you have overdosed yourself? Are you drinking a bottle a day? I don't understand. I have taken up to 9 tablespoons a day without negative side-effects. Dr. Budwig gives her patients that are hours away from death far more than I have ever taken and much to the amazement of the medical community, they are alive and well today. There are not any case studies that show negative side-effects related to the consumtion of flaxseed oil. I cannot find anything that states that anyone, anywhere, has ever had an allergic reaction to flaxseed oil. Sweetie, I think you are being too hard on yourself. Whatever is wrong with Nina, I do not believe has anything to do with the flaxseed oil. I do not believe you are responsible. Has the doctor done tests... bone scans, ct scans, mri's to see if the cancer has spread to her bones or organs? It could very well be that this is the case. At any rate, I don't think you should blame yourself. The same for you. I can't find anything anywhere that shows that a human has had a bad reaction to the flaxseed. The only thing I know is personal experience with my mom who has a malabsorption problem so can't digest the flaxseed oil. Otherwise, nothing anywhere. You may just have a flu bug. It may just be bad timing. What about food poisoning? Did you say that you and Nina went to a hamburger stand the other day? Is that when the vomiting started? What do you think? Please, do a search on the net. See for yourself the positive things that are being said about giving humans and canines flaxseed oil. Give yourself a big hug. You've done everything you can for your baby. |
