Thanks sweetie, so good to see you around again!

Well, Otto had his staples taken out today. 3 doctors checked him out. They told the kids that if there weren't significant improvement in 2 weeks, they want them to start using a cart.

I'll have to go back through everyone's suggestions here.

He's sleeping comfortably right now. Expressing him sometimes freaks me out but I usually get it.

Taking him and Bruna with me to my folks house where we will spend Christmas eve and day and the kids and g-doody will also. The kids will take Otto home for the remainder of the week and I am going to catch up on my sleep!!!!

Doody get growly when she doesn't get sleep!
.

Merry Christmas to all my friends here with furbabies!!! Much love from me, Bruna and Otto.

Just an update on basically no happenings. We notice little things, but when Otto had his stapled taken out, the doctors said no. But we're seeing different. He looks back sharply at my daughter now when she pinches his toes, which he didn't do before. Also, we've noticed him a few times stretch one of his legs out.

But when you stand him up, they just flop behind him and he drags his hind legs behind him. Docs said if he isn't walking on his own soon he should be in a cart to get around more.

I dunno, everything I've read says strict crate rest for 6 weeks, so...well, we'll see, still praying and being positive as can be!

((doody)) I missed this whole thread. How is Otto doing? I have a cocker -Kasey- they suggested I put down due to intervertebral disk disease .... he was completely paralyzed from the waist down. I gave him water therapy 3 times a day, plus massaged and gave him PT 7 times a day... they told me he would never walk again. I even had an order in for a wheel cart for him...........

This was 18 months ago....... within 3 months he could walk!!! Today you would never even know it! His hind legs sort of do a bit of a cross when he breaks out in a run, but other than that you would never know it! Let me know how he is doing

I can't even believe you've taken the time to read this with all you are struggling with right now! Thank you so much sweetness.
.
Kasey is such a lucky furbaby to have you!

Otto remains the same, poor little guy. I think the doctors want to see him again next week or in 2 weeks and if he isn't showing major improvement they highly recommend getting him a cart.

I still haven't given up hope! It's now been 6 weeks? But nope, not losing faith yet!

6 weeks is still early. He can still improve. Lots of stories of downed doxies making a full recovery well after 6 weeks. Keep the faith!!

((Doody)) Yes do keep your hope!
.
It takes time. Are they doing PT and water therapy? I believe that is what helped Kasey so much. I kept a journal, at 6 weeks he wasn't close to walking. I had to carry him everywhere. I also had to keep him on the couch with this huge pen around him or in a crate because if he tried to jump at all it could make him worse.

I said a prayer for Otto last night

I am so very sorry.
Also, a little upset.
Not sure I got all the story right, but...
Did Otto get an exray and prednisone right away?
There was a delay w/ our pet getting the proper treatment as well.

It is late and I had to re-read this thread a few times. OMG! I almost passed out. The drama here.
Thank goodness Otto had that surgery! He must have a guardian angel!

I recall those Dodger's List folks helped me a lot as well our dauchshund had her surgery...also at age four. Good advice/good support.
My little "Fur Baby" (knock on wood/crossing myself and lighing a candle) made a complete recovery.

Saw on this site:
.
that Vitamin C might be good for inflamation/prevention. I've heard good things about qualified acupuncturists as well.

Sending you and Otto big hugs. I am keeping the faith.

I tell ya...this was one traumatizing thread.

Oh, thanks you guys.

Yes ((Vowel Lady)) Dodger's List is awesome. My daughter added Otto to their database. She has scoured their web site for information.

The kids are now looking at carts. Eddie's Wheels is highly recommended, however and as usual, they are expensive. There are also many people on Dodgers who highly recommend the following site, so we are investigating them. My daughter emailed the couple and got an immediate response from them. SO caring and kind and full of information. And their carts are very affordable.

One of their doxies was paralyzed and their story of how they came to start making the carts is pretty amazing.
.

Otto is getting vitamins. I just bought a bottle of liquid B from my vet who swears by it. The clients who originally started using it for whatever, now get it monthly for their dogs. Otto LOVES it! My daughter puts it in on his food every morning and night and he eats every bit.

He doesn't like any of the other vitamins daughter has bought, at all! No matter what she does, he won't take them.
