First of all, my heart goes out to those who have recently lost their pet. I've been posting on the MS forum about the loss of my cat, Picabo.

When I started thinking about what to do after Peek died, I really wanted to have her cremated and keep her ashes with me. But I knew that would be prohibitively expensive here. I would have liked to bury her near me, but I knew we probably wouldn't be in this house forever. So I settled on burying her on my family farm where I grew up and my mom still lives. It's a beautiful spot, and Peek spent some time there when we were getting moved once.

My horse is buried just a hundred yards or so from Picabo's grave. I had to put him down after my dad died. I had gotten him for my 9th birthday when he was a 2 yr old. I think he was about 25 years old when he died. I had to hire a backhoe to bury him.

I am sorry to hear that Picabo passed away.

Default Home Burial

I have buried all my "fur babies" that we've lost during the years. Even a couple that were dumped to die. I had planned to be in my house until I died but had to move recently because my husband couldn't care for the acreage anymore. But that place will always be my home. No matter how hard I try it's home. We've been in the new place almost 7 months and I still miss the old one. So I think it's best to bury your animals where "home" in your mind is. I also believe that if the animals are buried near the house then they are less likely to be desturbed. I've always been a firm believer of "going back to the earth" and the life cycle starts over.

I'm so very sorry and I know you are grieving. There are many, many unwanted animals that are born every year. I hope one of them finds you.
