Default How do I start?

I'm going to try some supplements. I have never tried them before. My question is do I take them all everyday for a synergistic effect . . . or do I try one for a month . . . see if it 'helps' . . . and then try a new and different one for a month . . . and so on and so forth. You know what I mean? Here is what I bought online tonight:

Doctor's Best Best D-Ribose Featuring Bioenergy Ribose, 250-Gram

Jarrow Formulas Acetyl L-Carnitine 500mg, 120 Count

NOW Foods Vitamin D3 5000 Iu, 240 Softgels,

Doctor's Best Benfotiamine 300 Mg Vegetarian Capsules, 60 Count

My problems are in my feet. Clumsy and dull aches. Pins/needles/numbness. But I think my biggest concern is simply fatigue . . . which makes all of the above that much harder for me to deal with.

Thank you for much for any assistance!

I'd start with the vit D. Take one a day for
2 weeks and see how you feel.

Then add in one dose of 2.5 gm of ribose
At night. After one week of the added ribose
Raise it to 5 gm at night. If it becomes
Energizing then take it in the morning.
(But I find it helps me sleep).

If you still need something then add in
The benfotiamine 300mg at bedtime.

The carnitine should be last.

By adding one at a time you may discover
more about your own individual metabolic needs.

So by the end you will be using all 4
Together.

Thanks a bunch MrsD! My comments are interspersed below:

I'd start with the vit D. Take one a day for
2 weeks and see how you feel.

^^^OK! Take it in the AM or PM?

Then add in one dose of 2.5 gm of ribose
At night. After one week of the added ribose
Raise it to 5 gm at night. If it becomes
Energizing then take it in the morning.
(But I find it helps me sleep).

^^^Does ribose energize some while relaxing others? I do understand that some meds/supplements do have that ability.

^^^This is my 26th year in a row of teaching elementary Physical Education (Grades K-5), I need all the energy I can get (even on top of my prescription Ritalin - 60mg a day - 3X per day, although I break them in half and take as needed at 10mg at a time. I have ADD).

If you still need something then add in
The benfotiamine 300mg at bedtime.

^^^Does it typically relax or energize? I don't want something that is going to energize me at night.

The carnitine should be last.

^^^At what dose and AM or PM or both?

By adding one at a time you may discover
more about your own individual metabolic needs.

^^^Excellent point. Thank you.

So by the end you will be using all 4
Together.

^^^So do they really have a synergizing effect? What if after the first two supplements . . . I feel great?! My reasoning would think, "don't mess up a good thing! Try the other later (if ever!)."

^^^Your thoughts?

^^^Thank you very much.

Vit D is a very common deficiency.. We have
Had some posters improve with just that.

Ribose supports energy production and
Muscles. But some people report the energy
factor so you will have to see how it works for you.
It also increases adenosine levels which
signal the sleep cascade.

Benfotiamine does not have significant
Side effects.

The carnitine can start at 500mg a day and
Slowly raise to 2000mg a day in divided
doses. It will be the most expensive of the
four.

People who take stimulants for long periods
of time can develop a rebound depression
over time.. As these affect dopamine levels.
Fatigue from this factor will not most likely
respond to these supplements.

I think the 5,000 of Vit D was giving me very loose bowels. I'm outside enough and every time I test for it I am around 35. Not very high I know, but at least high enough to make it into the range. Do to the problem stating above, I stopped taking the vitamin. Maybe I'll start it up again later with just like 1,000 every other day.

I am taking Ribose 3 X 500 a day for about a week now. It seems to be helping with the fatigue.

That sounds good. I found a plateau of sorts with ribose.
When that happens I pulse it. Like 3 weeks on and 1 or 2
weeks off.

Mrs. D - would you please explain this concept of 'pulse it'? When does one know when to do it? Why do it? How to do it? So on and so forth. Thanks.

Pulsing in this case is using until you don't
Have the "benefits " so obvious anymore.

I stop then and wait a couple weeks or so
And restart. I think some metabolic systems
Get full or stop when the substrate is too high.
It is a form of tolerance.

Taking a vacation is a sort of "reset" so
The benefits continue. It is possible that
Ribose is not designed to be consumed
In high amounts everyday.

I just know that this happens with me
And it is a very subjective feeling.
