Neurophsch test...
So I did my testing on Friday... It was awful!! I do not know I have ever felt more stupid! Also really opened my eyes in that I had not realized how much I had really lost until this test.. Tests I had..
I had to remember numbers as they were read aloud.. I could not do 4 numbers... Had to repeat numbers backwards as they were read to me forward... ex.. 369, I would say 963... could not do 3 numbers... Other test that I failed miserably was; I was read 3 simple sentences like.. Joe ran home.. at the same time I had to answer simple questions like, Where did Joe run... at the same time I had to remember the last word of each sentence and write it on the following page when told... I could not do more than 2 sentences.. it was horrible! I was also read a short story and could not remember many details 10 minutes later... I have never felt so stupid! On top of all of that... I had the worst headache when I was done... some brain fog and was dizzy... went back to my parents, took a 3 hour nap and still was not good... I am so very happy that is over! |
Sarah,
You got a mixed blessing. It sounds like you have serious difficulties but now, others will have a proper understanding of your condition. With the new knowledge you will get when the report is done, you can seek help with ways to work-around your limitations rather than fight against them. When I learned of my memory dysfunctions, I could finally stop getting frustrated and find another way to deal with memory needs. I still struggle with memory issues but I do not get nearly as frustrated, if at all. Now, you need to just rest to recover from a hard day yesterday. It may take a few more days. And, try to be patient as you have to wait for the report. My best to you. |
I had the same problem and I was told to follow the order like A1,B2,c3 and I sucked at that and had to say the alphabet each time.....I was very nervous about going so I couldn't concentrate... Your not alone

As, after seven years, it seems unlikely that my memory will return to its premorbid function, I just do whatever I need to do to get done whatever needs to get done. If I need to write things down, set timers, ask for assistance, etc..., I just do. I'm over being embarrassed. If I had an injured leg, I wouldn't feel shame over using a cane, so why should I feel that way about the memory aids I need for my injured brain? In fact, I've come to realize that some of my workarounds are downright clever. Necessity, as they say, is the mother of invention. |
Yes Mark it is a mixed blessing, I just think I was more shocked at how bad the deficits are... and the big question is.... will I find enough of a work around to go back to work? and is this permanent?
Shady- I had to do the same thing... forgot about that one until you brought it up... Hockey- I do the same thing... I hope I can learn some work arounds! |
My neuro-psych report was pretty devastating. I was so far gone, I didn't even realize how badly I was doing on parts of it.
Once I got over the shock, the neuro-psychologist began using the report to recommend therapies. That's how I started Attention Processing Training. Without the test, I would never have got APT - and it did make a big difference to my day to day functioning. I know it's hard, but try not to despair. The report is just your starting point. |
I took mine like almost 2 weeks after I hit my head and I didn't know I had a concussion for like a week so I would of done so much worst if I knew I had a concussion like right after it happen.

Shady,
I doubt you had a NeuroPsych Assessment. They are rare and expensive. You likely had a Computerized Neurocognitive Test like an ImPACT, CNS Vital Signs or other system or a SCAT I or SCAT II . Knowing one has a concussion should not change the result of a NPA or CNT |
My test was part of a study that I am in with The University of Texas... i do the initial testing.. then 8 weeks of therapy and then a final testing... I will find out the details of the therapy tomorrow...

Mark,
I don't know what It was called... I just thought it was the same or close because they asked me around the same questions... I think it might of been SCAT II because I saw the same questions on a paper my doctor told me to fill out and I saw it when I searched SCAT II and it was the same thing...I know it wasn't Impact because it wasn't on the computer....some doctor asked me those questions and say the months backwards and I did a balance test which I failed terribly |
