Feds are changing pot laws for medical needs?

Did anyone else hear this? I hear the Feds are going to be changing the way they deal with violaters with pot that have legitimate medical needs. I hear they are not going to press charges for those with valid needs, and are not carrying large quantities.

How is this supposed to work? I have many questions. I was given some "herbal" brownies, and have been terrified to try um. I worked in law enforcement too long, and the DH and I are considering just getting rid of them. Can you imagine the knock on the door? "hands up, show me your brownies!" I think I am a wee bit paranoid.

our governer denied the medical mj law in our state, because he said it breaks federal laws, and he wont ask anyone living in his state to have local laws that break federal laws. (yeah, a cop out) anyway, I wonder if this would change many governers minds?

What have you heard?

Where did you hear/see this??

I just saw a report on the news about this...this relaxation will only apply to states that have a medical marijuana law. Which only applies to 14 states. And only if the laws in those states are followed stringently.

azoyizes 10-19-2009 02:33 PM

I'm with you, Dej. I would be too afraid to smoke or eat marijuana right now. I have a feeling that the laws will be turning in our favor, but I think it's too soon to try it.

However, I have no earthly idea how to go about buying marijuana or finding someone who would give it to me...so, it's a moot point for me right now. :)

I saw it on my local news last night at 11 and today at noon. I was not sure if anyone else had better info than a blurb on a local channel.

Bring on the brownies! I'm in one of those 14 states! :D

The US attorney's office has been instructed to leave people alone when they live in a state with a medical marijuana law and follow the state law as written.

I say it's about time! Stop wasting my tax dollars on prosecuting people who seek relief for a medical condition. Spend them on helping people, on prosecuting child pornographers, on tax cheats, on prosecuting bankers and hedge fund operators who stole from the US taxpayers! Spend them on bringing down cocaine dealers and people who deal in oxycontin and heroin!

Bravo!

MJ for medical use

Yeah, the Feds are saying that they will not punish those individuals who have a medical need FROM THE STATES WHERE MEDICAL POT IS LEGAL. So even if you are from a state where medical pot is legal, you better have the card from your state that says you have a medical need to carry pot. Here in Michigan it cost $100 to apply for the card and your doc has to sign the app. My GP said to talk to my MS doc who knows my MS better and the MS doc doesn't want to get involved in helping someone get what was considered "illegal". So I guess that leaves it up to my.......dentist?? Ha Ha

Well, if it's true, it'll be the first thing this administration has done that I agree with. No idea if my state (Nebraska) has a medical pot law or not, but if I someday need to smoke/consume MJ in some way, it'd be nice to be able to do so without worrying that I'd be arrested for doing so.

I am trying to figure out how to get a medical prescription and drive to CA, buy some nice clean pot, bake some brownies and give it a try.

I am not afraid of MJ, guess it is because I used to get high when I was in my 20's. Baked brownies with it, made spaghetti sauce with it once too.

I stopped because it was illegal and I did not want to break that law anymore.

But with my restless legs and constant pain, MJ? you bet!

If I am caught with under a pound, AZ does not prosecute. I am ready to drive my car across the border, the AZ/CA border that is!:D

AZ has a medical MJ law already on the books. no need to travel. You should be able to get your needs met in your own state.

Im a chicken... bawk bawk bawk!! :o

It is in the books but not in the pharmacies. I know 'cause I have a friend/pharmacist and I asked already. Plus I talked about it to my MS doctor, my PCP and my psychiatrist.

I also want to check out the actual pot pharmacies to see the various MJ's and how strong each one is to make the "right" selection.

Could you learn to grow your own?

I wonder what the laws are for keeping a small plant or two in your own home for your own medicinal use.

I think that's allowed, in Canada.

I heard this on the national news tonight. New Jersey is getting ready to pass a law allowing medical MJ.

I have no fear of smoking it or using it. It's not like I'd have enough in my possession to even cause me to get arrested. :)

Twinkletoes 10-19-2009 09:11 PM

I know our county deputy attorney was talking about someone from CA who got pulled over in Utah with MM. They showed the officer their card (permit), but the atty wasn't quite sure how to handle it. After all, we're not one of the 14 states where its legal.

Next time I see him I'll have to ask what he decided.

Bawk bawk here, too! If I was in enough pain I guess I'd think differently.

Koala77 10-19-2009 09:20 PM

In Australia there is no such thing as medical MJ. It's illegal and that's that! No if's or maybe's!

Some-one gave DH a bag full some time back, and it wasn't a little bag either.

He was in his late 40's at the time and had never even tried it, but that's not why they gave it to him. They thought it might help to ease his chronic pain, and gave it for him to try it out.

Needless to say he didn't try it, and neither did I. In fact we both felt so uncomfortable having it in the house, that we put it out (wrapped up with other garbage) in our bin to be removed along with our other weekly trash. As long as the trash man didn't know it was there, then to this day it's rotting in the earth at our local garbage disposal site. :D

I occassionally think of tossing all that MJ in the bin, and how others would just cringe with the knowledge.

I didn't care if it was legal when I was a teen and smoked it, and I sure don't care now that the MS has gone all progressive on me. My pain is real and pretty ugly. The US attorney can go to **** for all I care.

I come from a police family...Philly P.D. My dad was a Captain, my husband a lieutenant. They both know I smoked, and neither one of them liked it one bit. I haven't smoked it in a LONG time, but if someone gave it to me I most certainly would. ;)

Laura, there you are, honey..:hug::hug:

Dejibo 10-20-2009 08:41 AM

Woo hoo! its Laura! so, all I had to do was mention pot and she shows up? We missed you!

btw, I gave my brownies to a couple that lives in town. I thought it was a shame to throw them away, and I knew this couple would enjoy them, either that or call the cops on me. So, I bundled them up, and off they went. I got a giggly phone call later talking about "good stuff" well...as long as someone got to enjoy them. It was a huge decision to have them in the house, and I just never got past the fact that they were in the freezer. I kept them there, because I knew they would rot on the counter before I could or would eat them.

I am such a goodie two shoes sometimes. I did smoke a time or two in High School, but never got anything from it. I would see others giggling, and laughing, and stuffing their faces, and just never understood. I smoked the same stuff, at the same time, and didnt get the same effect. I tried it once more when I was doing some very heavy chemo. I was tired of the vomiting, and when I tried it, I felt like I was really paranoid. I felt like you could hear me wretching three counties away. I can be paranoid without pot. I gave the rest away then too.

I think if it were legal, I may be more comfie trying it here, but since its not, and I am such a "by the book" girl. I simply couldnt do it. The circumstances were not right I guess. Maybe more pain? or spastic stuff? or nausea? or whatever, but in my current condition, I just couldnt cross the line.
