FeelinGoofy 01-14-2007 05:40 PM

I think you guys are going to get it worse than we did.. :(
Rick and I just got out as we've been iced in for the past 36 hours and the main roads are pretty clear here. The sand trucks and plows are out in force. South of us got it much worse than we did as there are many who are without power.
Take care an stay warm down there!!!!!!!
vicky

Chemar 01-14-2007 05:41 PM

oh my goodness:eek:

hope you keep your power Curious and that you all stay safe....are they cancelling school tomorrow? prolly dangerous driving conditions

here in the swamp........we are hot and humid and feeling more like summer than mid-winter:rolleyes:
really wonky weather this season eh!

Jomar 01-14-2007 05:44 PM

We have had snow on the beaches in Oregon - and freezing temps there- which is very rare.

here's a link to some of the snowy Oregon beach photos that I found online-

Julie 01-14-2007 06:27 PM

Lordy it's cold here. Thank goodness it wasn't as bad as predicted.

Idealist 01-14-2007 06:50 PM

I guess we've just been extra lucky, 'cause it has been absolutely beautiful here. Today was breezy and mid-seventies, with plenty of sun. I took my little girl out for a drive, and it was warm enough to have the windows down. I bet we're gonna pay for it soon, though. Next week we'll probably have all the yucky stuff that y'all are getting now.

Lara 01-14-2007 08:19 PM

Great photo... poor tree.

I was just watching the morning news here and they were showing footage of a number of different states. Keep safe and warm as possible. Hope you get some relief in a couple of days.

Curious 01-14-2007 08:26 PM

ty lara. i'm worried about the overnight low temps. freezing up the over passes. i'm staying put. no school tomorrow.

i watched the news about OK goofy. it looked like parts got more snow than what we are supposed to get. just ice here.

We're getting the rain end of it here, you guys..I stayed in today and tonight, and curled up with the television.Did I mention that it's a cold
rain??Been raining since Friday,here.:Sigh:

Julie 01-14-2007 09:31 PM

I love all the rain. It will sure put a dent in all this drought! I just took the trash cans out and it's coming down a little right now. The trees are covered in ice and the wind is blowing them so they sound very pretty. Now if I lived in an old neighborhood with big trees...I'd be searching for the candles.

FeelinGoofy 01-14-2007 09:37 PM

Yesterday we had "thunder" sleet.... thats what the weather man called it. i swear it was thundering, but it was sleeting... My daughter and one of her friends went to another friends house who lives 4 houses down from us, and they are pulling each other around in a sled... LOL.... wish i had their energy.

I'm editing to add, my daughter and her friend just walked in the door both complaining of being cold and hungry.... i offer to make them some ramen noodles, or clam chowder or a grilled cheese or something.... what do they want???? a coke-float!!!!!

Darlene 01-15-2007 01:46 AM

Yes it is very cold here in Texas. We have no snow just ice. My hubby will have to leave extra early in the morning. He is a nurse at a local hospital, his regular time in is 6:00am.

At this time it is 14 degrees(wind chill 6).

Our daughter and family came here from Dallas area and are unable to go home. Some roads are shut down from here to there.

I just hope it get warmer here.

Darlene

FeelinGoofy 01-15-2007 04:24 PM

I hope things thaw out for you guys soon!!!!!!!
Here in Oklahoma today the sun is out and the ice is almost gone :)

watsonsh 01-15-2007 06:38 PM

OK, don't kill me, but it's so cold here in California I had to swtich from flip flops to socks and shoes...LOL

Hoping all is good with you Curious

Curious 01-15-2007 06:45 PM

lol shelly. i was raised in california. it baffles my kids when i tell them we had picnic tables outside at school to eat lunch. weather rarely was bad to eat inside at our desks.

i was watching the news and a guy was filling his gas tank..he was wearing shorts and t-shirt. crazy texans. :p

it still real cold. under 30. yuk. but nice hot spaghetti for dinner. :D

watsonsh 01-15-2007 06:50 PM

And I grew up in Buffalo, NY...snow capital

But my blood has thinned. Today it was in the 40's and I Had to wear a winter coat...Brrrrrrrrrr

Not nearly as bad as what you guys got though.

Stay Warm!

Jomar 01-16-2007 05:27 PM

Well -
Portland OR finally got some snow this morning- just a dusting was the forecast--

oops only 3" but with our hills, winding roads, overpasses and bridges -- a couple of the main hwys around Portland were at a standstill.
one main commuter route was stopped during rush hr -due to truck & trailers sliding sideways on access ramps and blocking everyone else- they sat for over 4 hrs- till they got it cleared and then only able to creep along.
no potty breaks out there!!

Temps @ and below freezing since last week- so it isn't melting much at all and will refreeze tonite.

Julie 01-16-2007 06:25 PM

Ha, my husband is up there in that snow. He was very excited and called me to tell me so.

Chemar 01-16-2007 07:11 PM

and here in the swamp we had 83 humid degrees today:Sigh:

my air conditioner needs it's winter break!!!!!!!!!!!!

FeelinGoofy 01-16-2007 07:14 PM

83 and humid!!!!! YUK!!!!!!! that is miserable!!!
WELL.... long story short, all the ice that melted refroze and it is slicker now than it was... its crazy. the schools are closed again tomorrow. i'm ready for this ice to go away....

Curious 01-16-2007 07:22 PM

we need to atleast go thaw out at chemar's......:p

are you going stir crazy goofy? i read your other post about the school closing not being on the schedule. that is crazy. so will they have to make up the days at the end of the year?

Julie 01-16-2007 07:24 PM

I'm so stir crazy that I'm about to pop. I haven't been anywhere since Friday. Now that I have wheels again, I'll just head to the swamp and visit Chemar!

Julie 01-17-2007 08:20 AM

We got surprise snow this morning and school is closed! One kid is running around and the other won't even stir. We could get up to three inches.

Curious 01-17-2007 10:14 AM

Glasses on a snowman...

Very Cute! And creative!

BTW we have ICE and snow too..but that is a seasonal norm for us.

Enjoyed the pictures!

Lara 01-17-2007 03:39 PM

Wow, great photos everyone. Just amazing.
Snow around the swimming pool is unreal. Love the colour of the fence. Goes so nicely with green. You need one of those Jacarandas in the yard, but they'd drop tiny leaves all over the pool and clog up the filter and maybe even crack the pool itself. OK bad idea! ;) I'd better wake up more before I go sharing ideas like that lol

keep warm.

Curious 01-17-2007 03:47 PM

lol lara. yep that would be a mess. but i have thought about one for the front.

the whole back part by the fence is planted with canna's and other bulb type of flowers and plants. big elephent ears, banana trees, day lillys, tulips, crocus...and a bunch i can't remember. in the spring and summer the colors really pop. i think our neighbors thought we were crazy. :p we won them over with the end result. ( and inviting them over for bbq ;) )

Lara 01-17-2007 04:01 PM

my favourite colours in the garden are the jacaranda colour or close to it, with white and a lemony yellow. I love those three colours together with lush green foliage.
I also love the cottage garden look too, with a little bit of everything, but that only works in the right soil and climate and setting.

Florida and here are having similar weather today by the sound of it. Weird, hey! Well, it's not weird for here, 'cause it's Summer.

Julie 01-17-2007 04:26 PM

How to humiliate your dog!

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...aredPoochy.jpg

Lara 01-17-2007 04:48 PM

LOL.

Beautiful dog!

FeelinGoofy 01-17-2007 04:56 PM

school is canceled again for tomorrow. Rebecca is so upset. LOL. I guess we'll be going to school in june this year. ANYWAY the weathermen are predicting around 5 inches of snow starting saturday and into sunday. If they are right we'll be out of school again on Monday:Sigh:
Your poochie is georgous Julie!!!!

Curious 01-17-2007 04:57 PM

yikes goofy!

i'm sure they will look at any teacher in service days...good friday, things like that. or saturday school. i know we have had to do that.

Julie 01-17-2007 05:19 PM

Thanks! I'm partial to her too. She is sooo beautiful.

Oh Goofy, that's bad. We are under advisory until Friday. I hope it doesn't come this far south. I remember missing a full week of school in Feb of 1978 due to ice....much worse than this. If this stuff doesn't dry up, it's going to refreeze tonight and be a disaster tomorrow.

FeelinGoofy 01-17-2007 05:26 PM

Our side street really isnt' that bad, but we have alot of country roads here in Norman and most of them are hilly... I'm thinking they are the reason school is canceled again for tomorrow. it only takes one bus wreck to bring about many law suits... :( and just the thought of even one child getting hurt...... yeah... its worth canceling school over. I checked the school website earlier this week and we're going to school on Feb 16. i guess they were suppose to be out that day, and it said instead of school being out May 24th now its May 25th... BUT those are for the 2 days we missed in December... We've got so far 3 days to make up with this one...I remember one year they made the kids go to school 15 minutes longer every day for like a month or something like that to make up for missed school days.... hey.... that sounds like a good plan to me. LOL

LisaL-TOS 01-17-2007 05:42 PM

There are several Texans on Neurotalk that we have communciated back and forth via PM on this weather. Such a rarity to have Ice, sleet and brrr temps in the Austin, San Antonio, Houston areas. But, in a week or so, we will fire up the Barbeque again and jump into the pool. :p One man being interviewed on TV with an Icycle in his hand stated, "this beats August Temps" :)

Curious 01-17-2007 05:46 PM

no pool for me for awhile lisa. but i still grill in the snow. :D
