Warm climate and RSD

Hi all.

I just got back from ten days in the Gulf Stream of Florida. It was 85 and sunny each day. Came back to MD to rain and a temp of 60. While in FL I was like a different person. I laid on the beach and sucked in the sun like it was a drug. I didn't hurt. I didn't need as many pain meds and I was HAPPY! Not only did the sun easy my hurts, but also eased my mind. I am amazed at the difference the warm tropical air helped me so.

We all get so worn down from this beast, along with our everyday worries. I had a horrible time getting through this winter. I have always loved cold weather and snow; but this year got the best of me. It was very healing for me to just lie back and soak it in. I hope for all my friends here we can all find a "warm place" to retreat to when life gets too hard.

Thinking and praying for each of you.

Kim:)

Hi Kim,
I am happy you had at least a bit of relief from this beast as you say. I live in NE PA and found this winter to be brutal too and the rain with this spring has not been much better either. I know that when you are near the beach there are different ions (things in the air I believe is what it is) than if you live inland. That is why we always feel better when near a body of water. Cool huh! Hopefully, now you will be feeling better since there will be no more snow for several months. Thank God. It was a crazy winter for sure. Take care,
kathy d

When the barometer drops my wife Suzy's RSD flares every time. kim ames, you are near the Chesapeake do you feel any different or the Atlantic Ocean?

Hi Kim,

This past winter has been the longest winter I've seen and I'm hearing everyone I know say it got the best of them too. We had a long snowy winter.

I actually do better in cold weather. I hurt more in hot weather. I get very uncomfortable in hot weather then go into a flare.

I am glad you got some relief in Florida. Laying in the sun sound good to me. I am going to try it this summer if I can stand the heat.

Kim I'm glad you had such a nice vacation - that sounds heavenly!! Welcome back, we missed you!!

I also LOVE the warmth and the sun on the beach, but what gets me is the howling wind. It hurts my head and my face and my shoulder. I grew up on the beach in South Jersey in the summers, its one of my favorite places. Unfortunately, when the wind is hooting, which is often, I can't tolerate it with my RSD. Which has been such a bummer. I also haven't been able to lie back in a beach chair because of the RSD in the back of my head.

I hope that all that will change after next week when I get my first ketamine infusions.

XOXOX Sandy

I am a sun lover too. HOWEVER I lived and the coast of SOUTH Florida when I mysteriously came down wiyh RSD. The climate did nothing to relieve the pain. We had to move back to Louisvolle,Ky due to my illnes and returned to Fla. for 5 week vacation this past winter. I did feel good there and only had 1 flare where i burned like the fire-breathing dragon. So even tho the sun feels good,i am not convinced that it helps RSD permanently, since mine STARTED in Florida. Who knows with this monster-lol. Fondly-Carol

I too, always feel better at the ocean. So glad to here of your pain relief. You are certainly right about this winter being brutal, it caused me all kinds of problems along with a hard fall on the ice. Left my dignity in the middle of Main Street!! Peace to you, Lisa

You were missed!!!

Hi Kim, you know last night in my prayer time, when I came to your name I thought...where has Kim been. Well, now I know, did you do any fishing? I do agree soaking up the sun is incredible for the body, it is better than a full body heating pad. I bet you feel great! I am so glad you enjoyed your vacation and was able to relieve your pain too. Last year my husband was transferred to Mississippi, (we live in Michigan), big difference. I was able to go and stay with him for a few months. Wonderful, pain was low, meds were low, I was in awe of the beauty of life again without all of the agony. So glad you are back I have missed your threads.

God Bless Jeanie

I actually moved states from MI to FL well actually CA in between because of the RSD pain increasing in the cold. I go frozen foot and the pain gets an insane went it is cold. I still have a painful life and like the severe humidity/heat is hard but still better then the cold.

dreambeliever128 04-15-2010 05:04 PM

Hi Kim,

It was warm here today. The breeze was good enough that I could take a walk but the sun is sure not my friend at times.

Carol, I spent two weeks in Ky. about 2 years ago and I felt great. I did get sick the second week there but the weather was perfect while I was there.

I too donot believe that the weather is better for RSD in one place or another. If that were the case we'd see more people from certain states do better then others.

The weather definately does work differently on RSD but I think it has more to do with the barometer changing.

Ada-Glad to hear you have visited Ky. If you ever come back let me know!
I do agree with all of your post as even friends have noticed that barametric changes seem to affect me more that temperature. Also you are so right-it would definetily show up geographiclly as well!

Cold or hot makes my RSD worse. I am so glad you were able to get away and feel some relief...I wonder what my middle point would be??

SandyRI 04-16-2010 06:05 PM

Where is that?

Hi Kim,

Where exactly is the "Gulf Stream of FL?" Down by the Keys? I know that the rest of Florida wasn't that warm during the last 10 days, so I'm figuring it must be more southern? And no rain, how heavenly!

Thanks...Sandy

Hi Carol,

I hope to come back down this year in Sept. I still have 2 sisters and 4 brothers there and too many relatives to visit. In Sept., we have a grade school reunion every year for everyone that went to that school. I want to come back for it this year. I will let you know when I do. E-town and New Haven is not far from Louisville.

It's raining here today and dreary. Just got off the phone with DianaA and it's the same where she is. My feet are cold and I have been freezing all day. I do ok if it's a dry cold but this is a wet cold today.

Ada
