Our cats are sick....could be a trigger/???
Both Hazel and Hattie are sick they have the feline flu. Hattie was a carrier and gave it to hazel whose eye started draining and then started sneezing, no fever, vet visit and eye ointment and liquid antibiotics which we finally got the hang of giving to her. Hazel is so much better now!:)
then Hattie started gaging and coughing took her to the vet and she had a fever of 105.5 which is very high for a cat no eye involvement, and I am sure she feels just terrible. :(She has been drooling so much phlem...poor baby, giving her much stronger antibiotics and she is making it really hard to give them to her.She is a fighter while she is so lethargic...she had not been doing much of anything today not eating nor drinking that we could tell but finally tonight she ate some and drank some so we feel relieved. She is drooling all over the house...I hope we don't have a 3rd sick cat by the time this is all over. bizi |

My Cat started sneezing about a week ago. A few times she sneezed over, and over again. She must be getting pollen in her nose. She's better now. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Beth,
Cats can be the worst to give medicine to. I feel for your cats and hope the 3rd one doesn't get it. Can you keep the 3rd one separated from the other 2 so he won't get it? BF, I had a cat that would snore. I hope yours gets over it's allergies. barbara |
(((Beth)))
i'm sorry your kitties got that nasty bug! :( I hope Hattie feels better soon and that if your other cat does get it that it is milder! Sending all your kitties good vibes. ~ waves ~ |
Good luck!!
I hope your kitties all do great!! I am so sorry that they are sick in the first place. I do not have kitties but I have 3 dogs and I know how frustrating it can be when your babies are sick!! I wish you and your babies the very best. I will be thinking about the 4 of you. Please keep us posted.

How To Give a Cat a Pill (something to "lighten" up your day... maybe.)
|
please keep us posted. this is very upsetting. i hope you trust your vet. with a good vet all will be well. kitties should never be sick

thanks for the well wishes, hattie is better today and eating a little bit and drinking water alittle bit.
We are so THANKFUL!!!!:) had to redose her because she spit out the first dose or I did not put the syringe back enough in her throat which is probably what happened. Not perfected this process but getting easier forthe most part, jeff puts on heavy coat and gloves and we wrap her in a towel tight and pry jaws apart and shove syringe a the side of her mouth and into her throat jsut past the gag part. it has been working pretty good until this mornings mishap. so glad t hat she is better. Hazel is almost back to normal, still finish her dose of antibiotics she is much easier to medicate. bizi |
Beth, I remember those days of giving my late ex husband's cat medicine like you described. It does take two doesn't it?

hattie is much better tonight..... she slept most of the day. I think she was so exhausted from the previous days hacking and mucous drooling.
She is hacking and congested but is in better spirits she actually rubbed up against me! I think she feels better! so happy about this.....:) |
Bizi I'm glad that your cat is doing better. It's heart breaking when they are sick. BF:hug::hug::hug:

I'm so glad both kitties are better. I hope the medicine giving goes better. I can tell you though. Dogs can be just as much a pain. Donna |
oh no... now our 3rd cat harriet is acting up.....:(
hattie is doing alot of sneezing clearing her throat congested you can hear her trying to breath...but is acting much more like herself. Hazel is almost back to normal but we will still give her the antibiotics. harriet the oldest cat sneezed a couple of times, cats aren't supposed to sneeze....we shall see. |
WEll now our 3rd cat is sick, running nose and 104.1 temp...poor kitty called the vet see what he wants to do.
we sort of figured that would happen.... sigh bizi |

Hugs to you Bizi I sure hope the vet gets back to you fast. Donna |
The vet did get back to us (after I called again) he called back and told us to medicate her with the same antibiotic that we are using for hattie.
so tonight after getting my hair cut we medicated all 3 cats. Harriet was by far the easiest to medicate!!!! thank goodness. bizi |
Beth
hoping Harriet is on the road to wellness by now, since you were able to use the same antibio without having to take Harriet in first... i mean it makes sense she has the same thing as the other two.
(((Beth and her three kitties))) ~ waves ~ |
hattie and hazel were on different meds due to the severity of hatties illness, symptoms and fever. so he is using that same med for harriet who is no better so we are taking her in because we don't know when she ate last and is lethargic, but she is usually that wasy so it is hard to tell...we just want her checked out so she is going to the vet at 10 this morning.
thanks for the well wishes. hazel will take her last dose tonight and is so much better almost normal. Hattie is soooo much better acting more like herself rubbing up wanting to play but still has a terrible cough. and I already told you about harriet. bizi |
oh dear!
well, i am glad you are taking her in. :o
it still made sense to anticipate the med - the earlier you catch the infection usually the better. perhaps she is just taking more time to respond. the vet may give her a shot to build up her antibiotic level sometimes they do that usually the first dose but... if thinks she is not responding at all i wonder if they can do a culture to check for resistance. i don't know if they do that with cats as they do with people. :o keep us posted. glad the other two are shaping up. :) sending you more kitty-healing wishes... ~ waves ~ |
thank you waves.
she is an older cat 13 I think...and is always sleeping alot so can't tell if the lethargy is her normal....she had 104.1 temp yesterday, will see what it is today. the shots that the vet have given the 2 other cats were steroid shots....she may get some fluids????Jeff just took her in. bizi OUR cats are our family. |
i know what you mean Beth, our cats were family too.
|
Family!
Bizi,
I hope that Harriet does just as well as your two other babies. I know what you mean when you say they are family! I do not have any children of my own so all of that mothering and worrying went into my dogs. I have been blessed, none of them have ever really been sick. I cannot imagine what you are going through with all three of your babies. I wish you and your feline family the very best. collinsc |
just got home,
all 3 cats are sleeping I know that the vet did give harriet some subcutanious fluids...said that she was dehydrated. but he did not keep her. so that is good. heading to the gym bizi |
hey
how are the kitties doing today?
|
I just got home....
all three cats are doing better! thank you for the well wishes and for asking. :) |
I'm so glad they are all three doing better. The fact that the
one was dehydrated makes sense. And if the liquids is all she ends up needing that is going to be so great. Of course along with her medication. Sending hugs and all to the kitties. And no barkes from my dogs. Donna |
yaaay!!!
i am so glad all the kitties are doing better!!!
~ waves ~ |
this is gross.......!!!!!!!
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - harriet threw up her meds this morning...a brownish fluid. Don't know what it was could have been old blood?it was not like coffee grounds like with humans...more like steak sauce consistancy...don't know what bile looks like for cats either...but it was right after we gave her the medicine. both her eyes were draing this morning so she is not well. poor girl! bizi last night she threw up a bunch of food that she ate shortly after we gave her her meds.....hoping that the meds arenot making her sicker. Hazel is fine and hattie is still sneezing. |
Ohh noooo!
poor harriett!
i guess it will be back to the vet tomorrow... :o it sounds like that med may not agree with her if she is throwing up consistently after having a dose - but not at other times. the brown color could indicate bile... Quote:
~ waves ~ |
thank you waves.
I am hoping it was only bile. We let her rest an hour then gave her 2cc's of water in a syringe as a test run then waited 5 minutes to see if that stayed down, then gave her some predisone and her antibiotic with another cc of water and It stayed down. She is very lethargic. and yes back to the vet she goes tomorrow. her temp is back up to 105....poor sick kitty... bizi |
I hope Harriet starts to feel better tomorrow.
Donna |
Harriet
Bizi,
I really wish Harriet the best! Good luck at the vets. I hope they can give her something that will make her better this time! collinsc |
she is throwing up what ever small amount of food she eats.
We took her food up but now she wants to eat....we don't know what we are doing here. picked up some pedialyte to give instead of water. before we tried the fancy feast which she did not want any. tonight, going to try to give her some pedialyte then wait awhile then her meds, she needs her prednisone and antibiotics, we should take her temp again they said that her high fever can make her dehydrated even more....it was 105 earlier today.... many cats don't survive this cat flu.... poor harriet...she is 13 years old.... |
Harriet
Bizi,
I just wanted you to know that my thoughts are with you and best wishes to you and your baby! I do not know anything about the feline flu but I think you said she was a fighter so I think if that is the case maybe she will be just fine.:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug: :hug::hug::hug::hug: |
Hi,
I hope you get encouraging words from the vet. 'Sending good kittie vibes. http://bestsmileys.com/cats1/8.gif M. |
thoughts for food
(((HUGS))) to you and kitty-wellness-wishes for dear Harriett.
i hope the vet can help today. might try strictly controlling the quantity: when she looks for food, give her say a half teaspoon or a level teaspoon tops. if it stays down, repeat periodically. if may be that when she feels hungry she eats more (even if it seems like a small amount) than her digestive system can handle right now. maybe the vet can suggest types of food / feeding approach that might help. i don't know ... i am just tossing out ideas. :o i don't know how much Harriett is used to eating at any given time. one of our cats used to nibble throughout the day but ate less, overall, than other cats who'd lick clean any plate of food put in front of them. there is a lot of variability in eating habits. ~ waves ~ |
