Exercise thread October 2011
I have a horrible cold, and went out anyway. I walked one mile instead of three, but I got out there.
I hope the rest of you are out wiggling stuff in public places. |
Wiggled 30 minutes this morning before work. Very light drizzle. Had my umbrella in hand.
Did my 20 minutes of toning tonight. Saturday night - Mom's phone call night. So no walk this evening. Good thing too because it got dark very early and has been pouring all afternoon/evening. I will go out walking tomorrow though. I need to pick up some groceries and I want to buy a couple bread pans. Going to try my hand at making some carrot bread, since the hubby left me a ton of carrots in the fridge (I swear he was Bugs Bunny in a previous life lol). So tomorrow's plan, despite the rain, head out to Paderno outlet store and get bread pans if on sale, then to grocery. First I'll stop in to my coffee shop though. Yay for Tim Hortons (my treat on my weekend!). By the way... I received a shipment of pumpkin oatmeal bite-sized cookies from my friend, her special recipe. I'm glad they're only bite size, because they're delicious and I could honestly sit down and eat an entire box lol! I'm trying to lose the weight I put on while with hubby on vacation though. This'll be tough with those delicious cookies nearby. :p (October is maaaaaaaaaaajor over indulgence month for me. Canadian Thanksgiving, and stores carry such yum baked goods. I'm in trouble!!) |
didnt wiggle today. I have a horrible cold. I am achy stuffy and snotty. my goodness I feel horrid. so, I stayed snuggled under the covers and told DH to go without me. UGH! no wiggling today. :(
|
still no wiggling. I am feverish, sweaty and nauseous without walking. so...im going back to bed.

I did go out and walk to get coffee today. Had to indulge and get a pumpkin spice muffin (they're already out, yay!!!!) and it was as delicious as I remember them being last year. Definitely scary territory! Our weather has been super duper crappy today. Been out and walking around a bit since I had to take a bus to the GP, and that involves a bit of a walk to reach the various bus stops. |
Haven't wiggled anything for several days now. Friday afternoon, my mom was trying to get out of her bed at the nursing home by herself (she has parkinsons and can't walk at all). She fell (of course) and landed on her kneecaps. She has a broken left tibia and a crack in her right femur. So we spent all weekend at the hospital with her.
Sitting in uncomfortable hospital chairs all weekend didn't do my neck and shoulder any favors, but I have an appt this afternoon with my doc to look at that again, then I head back to the hospital. Mom may get released tomorrow, but nursing home wants us to buy new bed because "the rails she has on hers didn't stop her from falling out". Yep...they are right...because the nursing home staff TOOK THE RAILS OFF THE BED because they were too dumb to understand how to properly raise and lower them. Needless to say I am not buying a new bed... |
Tested my pool chair. My father machined bronze bushings to replace iron bearings that rust, fall apart, stain carpet. My idea, I assembled it all the past 3 days. Works awesome & should for years to come.
10 laps today. |
And that makes 2,060 laps for 2011!
|
ok! im up! im up! feeling some better, but still in the breakdown lane. I did manage to drag my sad bum out onto the pavement this morning, and got 2 miles in. Walked more slowly and more cautiously than in the past, but its done. Came home drenched from the rain and jumped in a warm shower. REady to tackle the grocery store. Gawd, now there is a place that scares me.
|
Worked on an elliptical trainer for 10 minutes, then weight machines for 20 minutes. Had enough fuel to work out on the elliptical for another 10 minutes.
Oh yeah, and I took the dog for a 20 minute walk. |
20 more laps today.
|
Steriods make vroom vroom! I logged 10k steps on my Nintendo 3Ds pedometer (not such the distance in miles/km... but some weekend days I don't even walk that much!!).
Walking of course started bright and early this morning going to the hospital for infusion. Looks like the next 4 days will be much the same. |
hacking and coughing thru the streets, out i went. two miles. when will this silly cold quit!?! now its moving into my chest. I had this.
|
Took the dog for a 20 minute walk...had to cut it short due to spasms in my legs hurting too much:(

My girlfriend called this morning and we met for a 2 miles walk. Sunshine, exercise and excellent conversation. Perfect.
Then I planned on just doing a little yardwork but ended up doing 1 1/2 hours of it. The temp was perfect so I didn't overheat and there was a nice breeze too. It smelled so good outside that I didn't want to stop! |
20 laps yesterday, 20 laps today = 2,100 for 2011!
|
The change in weather has my body a little confused and weak. Last week with 40/50 degree temps, had the heat on and today I had to turn the A/C back on as it will be in the 70/80s.
Trying to keep myself moving, stretching, exercising a little. I try to exercise even when I'm sitting at the computer. Staying in one position for too long leaves me stiff as a board. |
Brrr...it was freaky cold out this morn. We had a deep killing frost and it was thick. Made me wiggle a bit faster. My cold is starting to abate and I am feeling a bit more like I can breathe again. Thats an awful feeling. So, 3 miles of quick wiggles behind me.
Im so proud of all of you! a quick walk to the mailbox. Lifting cans out of your cabinet while you sit on the couch. leg lifts while you lay in bed. stretches and yoga and housework and yard work...it all counts! Get out there and wiggle something in public my beauties. |
Wiggled to the hospital, and wiggled back home again. Will be wiggling this afternoon no doubt, since it's finally clearing (though it's cold and windy as heck!).
|
Took the pup for a walk, then mowed the lawn & got packed up for a weekend up North.
|
no walk today. I slept in, and woke to a silent house. found DH had gone on one of his extreme walks without me. Wahoo! I got to sleep in. Jack the cat forced his way under the covers as he was quite cold, so that is what woke me. silly cat.
|
I admit that I feel stronger and livelier living in the A/C than the heat, so I hope the warm, dry weather stays for awile.:)
|
short one mile walk today. Had a vicious migraine yesterday and my cold while leaving is doing as much damage as possible on the way out the door. I have never had a cold so tenacious before. So, Im laying low today.
I hope the rest of you find reasons to wiggle things in public. |

Finished up with the steroids by IV today, beautiful turn of weather for us (sunny - bad with O.N., but warming up drastically today and back to t-shirt weather from flurries a couple days ago, unreal! The ground smelled like Spring this morning, like a thaw. What a trip!). Going to find things to wiggle about today. Hope everyone has a very lovely weekend. :grouphug: |
OK, DEJ girl,
I want to make it a point to come into Neurotalk more... so thought since that and want to make sure to get daily exercise other than my crazy hard work on my feet at my McDonalds store.... that best of both worlds I could check in here... woohooooo I am having issues with muscle spasm pain neck and down back.... hit the ER for it and numb stuff right side... etc... as dr could not fit me in few weeks ago when so bad could not sleep... so he of course asked if I have been talked to by neuro about MS... I giggled... he looked surprised I told him how for years that is my reseached answer to my stuff... but MRI are normal etc... he said to follow up with neuro... neuro then ordered new MRI of head and neck.... to check for MS plaques as he said... finally a neuro that says it.. well not that I hope to have the stuff show... but kind of as limbo of having something for 12 years and every specialist I seen other than neuros always ask.. if I have MS... the PT over last few years says I present like a MS patient... so not to think it is in my head etc ok sorry rambled... exercise... hehe I biked over to my parents house to put the mail and papers in house.. they are away... the house is not far from here but it is moving.... tomorrow I will get in a walk.... hugsss all, sarah (miss you all) |
Took a quick walk today - about 20 minutes -not at a fast pace. Then I went bowling tonight. I know bowling really isn't exercise but when you're laughing between frames it can be quite a work out. ;)

 @ sabimax. Im sorry you struggle, but wiggling will make it easier. I promise.
exercise, even mild exercise has been proven to be so beneficial to the mind, the body and many diseases. it occupies your mind, gives you a goal, helps you take responsibility for your disease, instead of handing it the keys to the car. Getting out there or staying inside and pushing yourself thru a routine will teach you how to be more stubborn, will teach you how to roar and say NO! you cannot steal my day today. I am so proud of all of you! :grouphug: Yes, there are days when I cant/shouldnt get outside, but on those days I try to do something light inside. Wii, or lift cans or leg lifts from the couch, or arm stretches, and yoga stretches. There are many exercise programs for chair sitters if you google them. please, my beauties, get out there and wiggle stuff in public! I walked a half mile today. didnt feel great. dragged back home, but tomorrow is another day and as soon as this cold jumps off my back I am going to be right back at it. Get wiggling! |
Thanks Dej, I just have to always pace self, I work on my feet 36-40 hours a week... and then the painful neck back spasm tight stuff... so if I do too much outside work I have hard time. Gotta get moving though more, and see how body and stuff reacts... few years ago I was walking 3-4 miles a day on top of working, now I struggle with what I can do or not.
Today sun is bright, about to bake cookies for a benefit for someone in town here... young boy with brain injurys that would be a Senior this year. Baking for bake sale that is today with spagetti dinner thing. So sunny though, making sure I get out and walk today... Dej you are right once you doing it, it feels good especially true for the mind also... get frustrated with this body but going to get a daily dose of moving other than work again!! Thanks |
Painful wiggles today, and not a whole lot of them. Spent a good amount of time cooking soup and a pie today. Probably should have rested. My Trigeminal Neuralgia is flared up to high heavens - probably due to the 8 prednisone I took this A.M. (I have dreadful, dreadful side effects on oral steroids - the IV SM doesn't give such horrendous side effects).
I feel icky too, bloated like heck. My legs were feeling 'stiff' after walking around earlier and it wasn't until getting home after being out earlier that I saw how swollen my legs were around the bands of my socks. (any tips to avoid the bloating with the steroids? or is this just something that'll pass after the medication's gone? I don't like that my legs feel stiff and are swelling up. Ankle socks and lounge pants for the next while me thinks). |
@laura  take a rest, feel better, and get up and wiggle.
I did a slow wiggle today. I guess I have been down and out longer than I realized. I made one mile and had alot of quit in me, so I came home. Tea is a wonderful treat! Get out there and wiggle something in public my beauties! |
On Saturday took the pup for a walk to the nearby landing at the lake...saw a baby deer carcass on the way:(
Today I took the pup for a nice walk, walked briskly. It felt so good both days...no leg pain while walking...aahhh!!:D |
Thanks Dej! :) there's a light at the end of the 'tunnel' for the eye I think, though the longer I look at text, light etc the more it begins to flare up again.
Wiggled a bit today, beautiful day out! I mostly spent the day after lunchtime cleaning up my apartment top to bottom. Today was 4 prednisone, still awful headache/side effects, but a bit more 'tolerable'. Tomorrow back to 8 again, so it'll be wretched. I'll still get out and wiggle though - stores will be open after the long weekend, must go check out the sales! Speaking of tea... I am steeping a Chocolately Chaļ tea right now. :) |
Spent the last two days shopping with my DD. :) We did so much walking it isn't funny. My knee is hurting but at least I got exercise.
|
I did get out for a big walk yesterday, today worked then had PT, then walked the little ones to a head start family get together... that was not far away tough walking wise. Tomorrow might get up early enough before work meetings I have, to do yoga.... hugss all keep those bodies moving and as you say wiggling hehe
|
Im so happy to see more and more out there wiggling in public.
I have not wiggled yet. Skipped my walk in favor of errand day! I have to grocery shop, clothing shop, coffee shop, and take DH to the D sporting goods store to trade in his 5th pair of boots. He just cant get happy, and then off to the video game store, so its alot of wiggling in public for me today, so no morning walk. Still sniffly, but I feel tons better. I can breathe again, and I am alert and not dragging. Wow, that was a nasty string of BS. So, get out there and wiggle something in public my minions. |
FaGhEtTaBoUdIt!!! Wiggling it in public is against the law and in my case, extremely indescent..:D:p
Wiggling in private, however, has it's benefits and if you fall on your "stars", noone sees you except for the 911 hunks..:yahoo: |
Wiggled up the hill to get a couple grocery items (chicken stuffed with apples? Yes, that sounds like a good dinner to me!). Got myself some Mulled Apple tea as well. It's so delicious and I need to stay away from coffee/tea (this is caffeine free/herbal) for a bit I think.
Good amount of wiggling, though I did take the bus home because of the sun (I'd have been walking facing it - didn't want that with my eye the way it is still). 8 prednisone today - no gut-crunching headache/migraine/trigeminal neuralgia attacks yet, but I know they'll return if I stay sitting for too long. So best I keep on my feet and moving. Not a bad thing! :) This chicken should be fun to make I think... never done a thing like this before, but I'm confident it'll work somehow! :p Plus it'll be fun and healthy! |
