Anyone know an angry Pancreas?
Do your pancreatic enzymes elevate if your pancreas gets mad from PN? I have had elevated Lipase several times, and once elevated Amylase, but no one seems to think I have Pancreatitis... My C-Reactive protein stays up now most of the time.
Sometimes, the Lipase is up, sometimes not-there doesn't seem to be any pattern. Sometimes I have pain in the upper left side, just under my ribcage. My Gyn doc thinks that I am all inflammed inside... Also, does anyone know when Lipase is elevated, if that can affect the fatty coating on the nerves? I remember that it is an enzyme that acts on fats, I think, but could it act on the nerve coating and cause miserable burning pain? This probably a dumb question, but I really am having a LOT of pain right now and am trying to figure out what is going on here... Cathie |
Hi
It's been years since i was told lipase can cause elveted fatty coating
on the nerves. Sad part can't remember which Dr. told me this. Do you ever just fall asleep especially during the day,and can tell what is going on around you, then wake up very fast and confused,I know this sounds nuts, but you mentioned high protein levels.. Sue :) |
Cathie - have a look at:- http://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/Lipase-14225
Some advice there. Hope you soon feel better Tony |
Wow cathie,
My C reactive protein is always high and I have had a terrible burning pain all over my body the month or two. My doc told me I was all inflamed inside as well. Interesting thing is I was taking a pancreatic enzyme called Creon and wondered if this was too much for me even though it was supposed to help with my food digestion. I stopped taking it and it got better. Just to be safe I am going to see a gastro tomorrow morning. |
These too
Cathie,
I'm sorry you are suffering so. I found this site that may help you with knowing if the pain is caused from the pancreas. http://sg.answers.yahoo.com/question...6080628AAZYG2q And this one with some info about C-Reactive Protein http://sg.answers.yahoo.com/question...6080628AAZYG2q Wish I had more knowledge. Billye |
Thanks all... I guess I need to consult my GI doc about this, although he knows I have PN and has never said anything about a connection between PN and the elevation...
Shelley: I hope you will post or PM after you see the Gastro guy... Sue: Did you mean elevated lipase causes a fatty coating on the nerves? The way I remember the myein coating is that this is the actual covering of the myelinated nerves. I would think lipase might affect or damage it, not the other way around. Do you remember? Do I fall asleep? Yes, right in the chair. And I stay confused most of the time... Tony: Thank you for posting that link. I will go through that and see what I can find. I don't have a gallbladder, so I know that is no problem, but I noticed there are other ruleouts for lipase elevation. |
Cathie, I have to apologize in
advance....I simply wouldn't know an angry pancreas from anything else angry in my system? Somehow I have a feeling that I should be grateful.
I'm still learning I guess...Don't kow about you, but will we ever learn enuf to cure our own selves? Before it's too late? - sometimes it does seem that way doesn't it? I DO know my blood work and urine tests are all over the map - it's all the meds I take...X raises this count, Y lowers that count, and Z does funky things to both X & Y...It fair confuses this mortal brain.... Soft hugs and a gentle heating pad for you in the interim - 's - j |
Cathie
It's been awhile but i would think you have pancreatisits i remember
the pain coming or burning from back to front just under the rib cage. And at times in front just under the rib cage. But it would better be discribed as burning or imflammed or hot. Sorry just woke up it hurts i know that. Honest it's been so long can't remember the answer to the other question but i will see if i can find anything. Did you say your husband is out of town?? Do you have a fever, even a kidney stone can be up that high, with infection around it. But sounds more like the other call Dr. Cathie don't wait to long. :( :( Sue |
Well, let's see. No fever, at least not now. Kidney stone was the diagnosis of the year in 2005, so I know what that feels likes. This is to the upper right under the rib cage, just off of center. The only thing left, if it is not the pancreas there, I think, would be the spleen... I don't have a gallbladder. Sooo...
Here is what I have had since Oct.: D&C/Histeroscopy for numerous uterine polyps Dec. CT scan of lungs finds nodule in l. thyroid lobe Ultrasound finds 2 more tiny ones in rt. thyroid lobe Needle biopsy of larger nodule inconclusive 2nd needle biopsy inconclusive (not enough cells on that one) Reaction from Radioactive Iodine Scan of thyroid-ended up in ER w/fever 102 and horrible burning all over 3 weeks ago tick bite, now on antibiotics in case it is Lyme Also, I forgot thyroid autoantibodies were elevated Husband is in Brazil with 30 high school kids (questioning his sanity here). I think I have help lined up if I should need it. Cathie |
Hello
Well don't know but if no better ,call Dr. I checked other forum on Ly.
but you don't have stiff neck or fever. Have you had Shingles?? Don't know, oldest son had ITP when he was young hit his spleen flying over bike handles,is that what you did. ha!! Hope your husband's students don't get sucked up by one of those big snakes..:D If you get worse and have no help call 911,i hate that but have to once in a while.. Darn it    that last thyroid thing ask Shelley. Sue |
I have high liver enzymes and they thought pancreatitis last year. I would go to your gp and they sent me for ct scans. There is a range of symptoms especially whether acute or chronic. I'm not sure if it has to do with pn. I do know that when mine was even higher and I was in the hospital they had me on a special diet/meds to help take some stress off the liver and to see if it would come down. I still have high liver enzymes but it is something were just watching now. Feel better and I would talk to your doc about further stomach tests.

Ok Yorkiemom

He felt around alot and it was ok up near pancreas but angry down on both sides of large intestine type area. Next steps....stool test :icon_evil: And barium thingy. Keep you posted. |

Cathie
They would be in the right place, may want to call dr. see if you
can get something to maybe calm them down. If that doesn't work you know it's not them. Still no fever i hope,i can see Curious floating her boat over there. May take Shelley and me just a little while to get there got to make a lot of stops, she's got all that poo poo,and we got to find Brad Pit. :D :D Sue |
Sue I have all the bathrooms mapped out from here to Cathie's
|
Great... i will be expecting you soon.
By the way, you usually can't go wrong if you use McDonald's bathrooms, just don't spill their coffee on you. :) Cathie |
repeated?
Has the lipase been repeated and is abnormal twice in a row, with amylase abnormal. That's the most important part. If it is staying up, I'd think your doc needs to think about that pancreas of yours. If it's transient, I'm not sure it has meaning. Maybe you had a fatty meal.
|
It has been repeated, but only occasionally. Lipase is occasionally elevated, but amylase was only elevated once... Maybe I need to see if doc will rerun both at the same time...
Something is wrong though. Steroids at 7.5 daily are not holding things as they should. Previously, my dose was 5mg. I had all of these things done since Oct., which could have triggered problems, but I think the worst of this actually started after the Radioactive Iodine Scan... You would think though, that it would have worn off by now... I think that was in Feb. or March... Cathie |
I used to have blood work every other day and you would be amazed at the changes that can happen in wide ranges. There are so many factors that can throw things off. Do you still have the pain under the rib cage and also do you get pain in the back like where the pain in the rib cage is?How is your diet? Like I said dietary fat is hard to process and a lot can be controlled through diet/meds.I still think following up with a stomach doc. Feel better.
Also I hope they stop by Mich to pick me up so I can visit. |
Wooo Hooo Daniella....Go Blue....Will pick you up first in Meeeeechigan.
Sue you are in charge of snacks for the trip. |
