Any thoughts about renaming this forum?

With OBT/BT1 back up, might get confusing.
Already has been for me, in a few threads.

Any thoughts along this matter? :)

MoonAngel 10-06-2006 03:45 PM

Or perhaps, if possible, changing the color scheme would help. Just a thought. :)

mister 10-06-2006 03:47 PM

rename

I was first confused too but that soon changed when I saw the difference in the way that things were handled in this foum as opposed to bt1. This forum has all of the same advantages and none of the back biting and acromony that I saw in the past at bt.

I find this site far more pleasant to deal with and that matters.

The only thing that doesn't seem too busy here is the chatroom but that will develop over time I hope and things will workout in a far better manner than the present chatroom at bt.

The adminastrators here seem to have a handle on what is going on here. The other sites seem to be in the exclusive control of the modertors with little imput by the admin.

If the site is to work it requires that a hands on administrator be there to as an oversight to the mods and the site in general. I hope that will be the case at this site for some many years to come.

Just my thoughts
Mister

For Mister

Doc and KD will be here as long as we are...
They both are very hands on and keep the mods updated on any changes or anything that needs to be done.

They are both very caring people so pull up your chair and grab a drink...You will be here with us for a long time to come

beth 10-06-2006 04:56 PM

I really like these from the earlier thread:

BrainMatters.Org

NeuroTalk.Org

or .Net or whichever dot was available.

Or is BrainTrust.something available? Trust being a highly respected commodity at this forum, ahem! ;)

Jomar 10-06-2006 05:20 PM

If a color change is possible ??-
I like green or purple, in the same tone as the blue- not too dark or too light.

jccgf 10-06-2006 05:31 PM

Oh... I really like BrainMatters ! A LOT!!! I must have missed that before.

I vote for BrainMatters too! It is not mentioned on the poll.

Thank you rocking4

Nice to know that people and things don't change sometimes in their way of doing things and that people can feel welcome here.

I hope to be a part of this group for years to come and I expect to learn a great deal and possibly help others along the way

Regards to all who have made this possible
Mister

DocJohn 10-07-2006 09:33 AM

Brainmatters, unfortunately, is already taken.

Neurotalk.org received, I believe, the most votes in the last poll. We may run another poll to be certain, but yes, the plan is to change the name within a month's time to something else.

We may also update the template, or provide people the choice to choose from different color templates at that time.... Definitely something I'm interested in doing.

:)

Joselita 10-07-2006 10:26 AM

Put me down for Purple too, please!

Hey Doc John (and Everyone)

I haven't really posted to you here yet. I have been just kinda hanging around...checking things out..and making a few posts in my "home" forum, RSD. But, I would really like to Thank You for making and keeping this place up and running for us. You seem to be a really caring person, and I am looking forward to getting to know you a little better over the coming years (I have VERY high hopes for this new Home you have made for us here!)

Anyway..I voted for NeuroTalk, as it was what I liked most on that Poll at that time. I will be looking for a new Poll for the Name...as I am excited about everything having to do with making this place all that it can be, and NOT a "copycat" as I have seen it called.

Also...I totally vote for any kind of Purple, Liliac, or Violet scheme. Seems pretty calming to me. And VERY...well...Pretty! LOLOL

Thanks again for all that you do! I hope that you have a good day and a Super weekend!

Take Care,
Joselita (Jose for short)

mister 10-07-2006 10:47 AM

I agree

I agree that this site seems to have caring and interested people running, moderating and administering it. It is quite pleasant here by comparison to the way that some other sites I have been to in the past couple of years.

The interests and the wellbeing of all involved is taken into consideration at al levels.

That is so not the case in other sites

Regards
Mister

P.S. Nice to actually know who the mods are here as opposed to the other bt site. It makes things so much easier to get to the bottom of an issue that might come up if you have some connection to the people in charge

mrsD 10-07-2006 04:24 PM

yes..

I posted to this a while back...
Change the "skin" so it looks different from OBT... please.
Now that OBT is back... it is very very confusing if you have both windows
open.

A poll for color changes is a great idea. As far as the naming goes, that is so difficult.:p

I am not very talented in this area. But my observations are that this place is so much more FEELING and different from OBT that the name should reflect that
difference. Making it too similar to the other, would be rather misleading, IMO.

Chemar 10-07-2006 06:05 PM

until we have a colour change.....

a good way to distinguish OBT and BT2 is that the former has avatars and user info above each post whereas here we have them to the left of each

HTH
:)

mrsD 10-08-2006 06:53 AM

I thought a bit about some naming possiblities..

It might be nice to have a connection to PsychCentral.

HealthCentral

or
HealingTouch
HealthMatters

are some of the possibilities that came to my mind.

I like this one....
I agree they should be some how connected

mrsD 10-08-2006 08:22 AM

drat...

I just Googled HealthCentral.... there are scads of them out there.

But keeping the Central in there might be possible with another qualifier.

There is a HealingCentral as well

How about VitalSelf ?

I made this name for a now closed clinic that I consulted at for a while---locally. I did the nutritional/supplement/drug part, and the clinical
social worker did the therapy there. That business is now closed, and I don't see it on Google either. (my friend retired the business finally.)

I appreciate the well wishes toward Psych Central, but honestly we don't want any additional credit because you folks have long been your own, independent community and I want to foster that independence as much as possible.

If you all see another name that is available as a domain name that comes up in discussion, feel free to let me know. We can have a "run off" vote of any additional names if need be.

John
I think that pretty much leaves additional names to be added if there are some we really like that are not on the poll. :)

Also, I like the idea that we also have our stand alone independent community that we're literally building from scratch with some GREAT, caring, giving, creative people!

We've got another month or so it looks like. :)

KD

kimmydawn 10-08-2006 09:04 AM

What about (I haven't looked for availability because I can't easily access the "how to" on that):

*The Medical Mind*

*Brain&Beyond*

*BrainTravels*

*Brain&Body Connection*

*NeuroTravels*

*NeuroPaths*

Still thinking...

Ro from Vermont 10-08-2006 10:51 AM

I don't post here, mainly because I didn't know about it while Braintalk was down.

I would like to post an idea for the new name for this forum.

I'd like to suggest:

VITALSUPPORT

in large part, because for those us with conditions that are "rare" or keep us homebound or isolated; boards like this one are VITAL for support, friendship, knowledge and sometimes plain ole silliness. :)

Before the original BT was introduced to me by an internet savvy relative, I'd never met anyone who shared my autoimmune disease, myasthenia gravis.
During my years with that board, I gained so much emotional support, I no longer felt as isolated as I had prior.

Whatever this board ends up being named, it is truly the people who make it special.

Doody 10-08-2006 04:06 PM

I like Neurotalk also, but Mrs. D., those are great name ideas! I like those. Maybe Doc will include them. I really don't care, I'm just glad to be here.

I also think a scheme change is okay, though blue is pretty standard. I've only confused it once with OBT but that was because of the name, not the colors. Since then, I've just named my bookmark for here differently. Haven't posted at the OBT anyway, 'cause as I've said a gazillion times all ready...I WIKE it here. :D

Doody 10-08-2006 04:14 PM

I like the colors of Psych Central a lot.

Is there any way we can see standard colors or designs from VBulletin, Doc?

These colors and banner are very purdy. Psych Central community forums

ZucchiniFlower 10-08-2006 05:12 PM

I prefer the colors on this page. The turquoise is very pretty and different from what we have now. It's simple and easy to read:

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=15

mrsD 10-08-2006 06:27 PM

ooooooh

I like the turquoise too. It has an "energy" ... :D

DiMarie 10-08-2006 06:41 PM

I like neuro matters.
I like shades of Purple, soothing.

What about Talking Brains;

I have a concern as this forum has been more successful then many of the back up forums, because of the similar format, and name. Made you think of the place one spent their time reading and searching at, and grew freindships.
Di

Seems like you can choose any web-safe colour combinations.
To play with colour combos, here's a couple of links:

have fun - all the best:)

Doody 10-08-2006 09:44 PM

PsychSupport
PsychHealth
PsychNet
Neuropathway
AskDrJohn :D
BrainWaves
BrainHealth

All .orgs

I think voting on a color scheme could get crazy, every one has their own favorite colors that might makes others go bezerk.

SallyC 10-08-2006 10:00 PM

I agree with "Neurotalk" I think someone already reserved it here??

I like this color scheme or something similar. With our various brain problems and eye problems, it would have to be something easy on the eyes. I like purple too, but if you went with dark colors, you would have to us white letters...Yuck.:D

mrsD 10-09-2006 02:36 AM

further ideas...

I agree that NeuroTalk is catchey....but it sounds like a place that Neuros would have discussions, at least to me.

I had an idea if anyone can expand on it...

WellnessCentral
or something to that effect with Wellness as a qualifier?
WellnessMatters

This board seems to be more "healing" in tone/nature each day. And
it would be nice to have that meaning in the title. And we ARE expanding away from the old "neuro" frame, each day.

concerned lady 10-09-2006 03:21 AM

What about: "NeuroTalk&Support" ?

Here are a few ideas for a name, from several names you all came up with:

NeuroTalk&Support, or Neurotalk&Support, or

NeurotalkToo, or

NeuroSupport, or

NerveTalkToo, or

Nervetalk&Support

I also like a little lighter (creamy color) background, since I'm a four eyes (wear glasses).

Carol

P.S. Hey, Mrs. D., what are you doing up at this hour? :)

DocJohn 10-09-2006 07:15 AM

Post all of your forum name suggestions here. A poll will be compiled in a few days of all the suggestions and we'll have a vote on it! :)

Doody 10-09-2006 09:49 AM

I still think that 'neuro' implies it's a place to go specifically for neuro disorders. As seen with OBT, everything under the sun is discussed including breast cancer, colon diseases, suicide, etc..

So, how do we get people with psych, neuro, and health disorders if that's what everyone wants.

If it's just neuro, I guess the only way I fit in here is because I have an AVM in my brain. Unless my other illnesses are neuro-related. I suppose everything is in some way, I dunno.

The way I found OBT in 1998 was getting on the internet and searcing 'head injury'. That led me straight there. It was nice because of the broad spectrum of other disorders and health related problems, not just neuro.

That's what got me here, so now that I'm thinking about it, I guess people aren't going to go and search for the name of our place but rather they'll be surfing the web for something specific and stumble in. Or be referred.

I defer to the Doc's expertise.

(For some reason the word 'matters' bothers me though. Like Brain Matters.. makes me think of literally grey matter, ick)

Jomar 10-09-2006 11:36 AM

I like the idea of expanding the name to include more than brain or neuro.

Healthtalk
Healingtalk
Lifetalk
Meditalk

Looks like I am for keeping the talk and just changing the "brain" to something else.

artist 10-09-2006 01:15 PM

The Nerve.

my input...
all the best

Doody 10-09-2006 01:16 PM

Healthtalk Central
Neuro Network
Neuro Net
Our Health Talk

DiMarie 10-09-2006 01:21 PM

lifenet

Maybe we need something that is generic, psych maybe mental issues to some, and ortho, bone related, neuro, the nerve injuries. We do have a variety of support forums.

Perhaps it is best to on one hand keep part of our old name for identity, or is it better for a "New Life".

Just thinking out loud.
Di

Doody 10-09-2006 02:37 PM

I like that. But Lifenet is taken already.

beth 10-09-2006 03:18 PM

Since we do have such a broad span of conditions and topics, what about something that tries to capture the essence of what we are all dealing with:

ChronicLife

ChronicTalk

ChronicIssues

or something with Chronic in the name, that wd identify us to people searching for such a support group?

Or something even simpler:

IllnessTalk

Disorder(ly) Talk, or Disorder Central?

Just trying to think along the lines of KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid)
