I've been "Skyped"!
And I'm thrilled!
I hadn't realized when my SIL set up my Skype acct. several months ago, that others could look in a directory and find my name. I've only used Skype a couple of times and haven't had good luck. Seems like either we can't see each other, or have to use the cell phone to hear one another. BUT, tonight was different! I was contacted by a long-lost friend in Australia. Haven't talked to him in 20+ years, and lost his address after he moved about 8 years ago. So good to hear his Ozzie voice once again. He still makes me laugh. :D I was sitting here in my PJs, no makeup, wearing my funny reading glasses, etc. and assumed that the camera still didn't work. Surprise! I had to hurry and turn it to the wall! :D Anybody else use Skype? |
I admit it....I don't have a clue what Skype is or what to do or anything! lol I'm still trying to figure out myspace! :Scratch-Head:

Still a beginner here. Skype allows you to have a conversation with someone (who also has Skype), so that you can both SEE and HEAR them simultaneously. Very cool, I think. BTW, love your goofy guy that pokes the red X in your siggy line! |
Oh ok...well I don't know anyone (besides you ) that has it, but I guess it's kinda like webcam chat huh?
I found goofy guy the other day lol |
I un-installed mine a while back Twink. What a shame.....we could have chatted! It was giving me hassles however, and there never seemed to be any of many friends around when I was.
My daughter uses her's to phone England for a small number of cents a call. She thinks it's wonderful, and I might think about getting mine back on when I get the new PC. |
Oh Twink, my sister Barbo uses it to talk often with an old childhood friend that lives in Israel. They can see and hear each other as clear as a bell...
Yes, be careful what you aren't wearing. :D |
That's SO Jetson's of you, Twink! :)
No, don't use it..It's one of those nightmare scenarios for me, to answer the phone and have someone see as well as hear me. At least Jane Jetson had a fake made up face she could slip into when someone called at a bad time. |
Good Lord.....the way I look when I'm on the computer some days - well, I just wouldn't want to be responsible for the trauma it caused someone who could see me!!! :yikes:
|
alas, all Skyping is BLOCKED here by the one-and-only phone company (BTL) which has a complete monopoly over the whole country.
:(:mad::( |
I have teens with computers, shows like Dateline and Oprah convince me there is no need of a web-cam in this house and besides I seldom sit made-up, hair clean and combed and fully dressed at the computer. I have Myspace to keep an eye on DD but forget the password, need her help anyway to navigate in. Only one lesbian and a married man who can date have contacted me offering their "friendship". Yikes!!!
Skype is new and unknown to me. |
Skypes is a blessing for families and friends who are worlds apart...believe it or not, it is free!
|
My computer is older and doesn't have a built in camera so I'd have to go buy one.
I just use my free minutes to call friends/family. Hearing their voice is enough for me. That's great you reconnected w/ your friend. |

I don't have any long distance on my phone. Why would I want to pay all that money? You can get phone cards at Sam's or Costco and program them into your phone. You can purchase as many minutes as suits you. It is much cheaper than using a regular long distance phone service. By the way Twink...do you mean 'Aussie' or 'Ozzie'? Tootsie:) |
I used to get little pop up boxes (instant messages I believe they are called). The first time I saw the little box, someone said "hi"!! so naturally, being a friendly person, I said Hi back.
Well, in two seconds he was asking to meet me and he wanted to "GET TO KNOW ME BETTER". I had no idea what the heck was going on. I said "who are you, and how did you get my email address?" He went away. Then another person tried to contact me. I was given the option to accept or block. I started blocking everything. I don't know why but I never got another instant message. This had to be over 5 years ago. For some reason, I don't like instant messaging. I have a cell phone but it's just for emergencies. I only use it for the Access-a-ride. There's no one I need to call and there's no family to speak of so for me the cell phone doesn't come into play unless it's to call Access-a-ride and make sure my ride is on the way. But I gather if I was in my 20's, I'd probably have an I-PHONE. Now THAT's something I would love because I use my IPOD all the time. Imagine being able to go on the internet, make phone calls and listen to music, all in one gadget. Sweeeeeet!!! |
