Question about bra size!!

Now don't laugh. I'm dead serious here.

I want someone to explain to me, how, after losing 100 plus pounds, over the course of 10 or so years, I only went down 1 BRA SIZE!!!

At my heaviest, I wore a size 24 and a half dress. And 44C bra. ALWAYS. I never wore a bigger size in my life. Even at my heaviest.

I was in my 30s. I worked, and I had to buy all new clothes. I wasn't that busty, but I was a BIG WOMAN.

So fast forward to now, I have never measured myself but I figured I was about a 40 C. I went online and bought a good bra. Cost me $20. It was beautiful. I got the 40C. Fit nicely. The C cup was just fine.

Now there are 40C's and there are 42C's and I know that when you buy a good bra, that you get what you pay for. I understand this.

I have watched the Oprah Show and she once had a show that indicated that we are all walking around with the wrong size bra. I believe her.

I have the one good bra that's a 40C.

And every other bra in my drawer (and they all fit), are 42C's.

And how come some of the C's look like D's.

My bust got smaller, this I know. I am not FULL. I barely make it into a C.

But with the good bra, it fit just perfectly.

With the $3.99 bra's well, the C's look like D's.

Today, I brought a bra at the local department store. Cost me $3.99. I needed one of those fiberfill bras. They make you look like you have breasts even if you don't have breasts.

So the cups looked a big bigger than I usually get.

I take the bra home. Oh, it's a 42 C by the way.

The bra fit perfectly. The cups didn't. They were big. But it doesn't matter. I'll put a tank top and I'll look line Pamela Anderson when I wear this bra.

I said "holy cow, I have breasts". It really is a nice bra.

Tomorrow I'm going back to see if this bra comes in a 42B.

So someone please explain why some C's fit nicely, And why some C's look like cannons.

And more important. HOW THE HECK CAN I GO DOWN ONE SIZE AFTER LOSING OVER 100 LBS.

One would think I would have gone from a 44C to a 38 or a 36.

I do not get this at all.

Oh, and you'll love this. I put on one of my bras this morning, and a tank top and all I saw were, well, you know what was peeking through the tank top.
I couldn't wear it. I know that there is an item called PETALS, that solves this problems.

So I walk into the bra store near my home and I was all prepared to ask the lady behind the counter if she sold Petals.

Well, there was a GUY behind the counter. I was sputtering and he's going "may I help you, may I help you?""

I'm just looking at him, and I go. "uh, well, I have a bra and it shows through my tank top, and ugh....." and he shouts out loud "oh, you want nipple covers". I almost died!!!

I just followed him and he's throwing all these nipple covers in front of me.

I just thew down $3.00 and grabbed a packet.

Now don't all of you fall down laughing. This actually happened to me today.

I'm just waiting for Alan to see the packet on the kitchen table. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE HIS FACE WHEN HE SEES WHAT THESE THINGS ARE.

lol

tkrik 06-08-2008 09:49 PM

Well, I didn't quite fall down laughing but . . .

A good bra is worth the price. DDs and I have had similar discussion about bras and sizes. DD18 cannot figure out why she is a bigger cup size than DD16 who looks bigger. I finally told her to go to the Playtex website and that have a whole section on bra sizes and correct fits.

You may have lost weight but your rib cage may now be a 40 and not a 42. I am not sure if there is a JC Penney's close by but they are great about measuring to a perfect fit.

I have also found that some bras are only made for women whose ____ are closer together. In fact a lot of them seem to be that way. I am not build that way and have a little more space there. Let me tell you, underwires hurt when they cut in.

MelodyL 06-08-2008 10:01 PM

I hate undewires, but the one I bought on the internet, well that was a BEAUTIFUL FITTING BRA. It fit in all the right places.

Not anything like the $3.99 bras I buy.

But really, when you lose 100 lbs, SOME PART OF YOUR BODY SHOULD GET SMALLER, no??

I cannot believe I went from a size 24 1/2 dress to a size 12-14, and only one bra size.

I just don't get it.

Oh, by the way, Alan found the packet on the kitchen table.

He said: "Why is there a photo of a woman with these things on her breasts?" You should have seen the expression on his face when I explained what THESE THINGS WERE!!!!

I laughed my head off.

Kitty 06-08-2008 10:13 PM

If you have excess skin due to weight loss that might be a reason you're still requiring the same size.

dorrie 06-08-2008 10:15 PM

Hi Melody! I lost 60 pounds ....a few years ago. It is back now! When I lost the weight I lost very little of my bust...I was a 42F...some DDD's fit me as well. After losing the weight I wore a 38 DDD...lost almost nothing in the cup! It came off in my back though. Now that the weight is back I am in a 40 DD!!!!!!!!! Sounds weird but is easily explained...I had a breast reduction 2 years ago!!
Best thing I ever did!!!!! It is funny though....my weight has been up and down but the cup still stays the same!!

Taffy 06-08-2008 11:05 PM

:ROTFLMAO::ROTFLMAO: Petals... I will never look at your flower the same!

I don't have your full figure girl on top problem. (dang it!)

I am one of those people that when I do lose weight, guess where the first place it goes? That's right. The top. Like I have anything there to start with.

suzyqz_2007 06-09-2008 12:11 AM

I've always had trouble finding the right size. I was an early bloomer...way early lol I wore a 38C in the 7th grade! :o

I went one time to a really nice boutique and was fitted for one...hated having someone I didn't know push and pull!

Guess I should be happy that I have naturally what some women pay good money for!

Me, too, Suzy. But....if I could go down a size or two I would do it (no surgery, though!!). It's really not all it's cracked up to be. :o

MelodyL 06-09-2008 07:23 AM

Well, I have no loose skin (from the waist up). Because I was always bottom heavy, my thighs are where, well, let's say that's why I wear Spanx. They hold you in real good.

From the waist up, I look perfectly fine. I did lose breast tissue with the weight loss (but not as much as when I lost 85 lbs when I was 24 years old), I was flatter than a pancake. I believe I was a 38 B at the age of 24. But then the weight came back. But now that it's taken me 10 years to lose all this weight, I really did think that I would be back to the 38B. I look like a 38 B.

When I was sitting on my friend's porch, on the way back from buying this bra, I pulled it out, and they all said: 'Melody, that won't fit you, it's too big, it's too big around, and it's too big in the cup".

Well, they were right about cup but they were wrong about it fitting me all the way around.

I guess I'm destined to be one of those people who are big boned. Dense Bones. Whatever.

And the kicker is I just looked at the packaging on the bra I just bought.

It's a plus size bra. I haven't worn any plus sizes since I lost my weight.

Kind of a thorn in my head if you get my drift.

So now I am determined. Let's see how much water I can drink today.

Yesterday, it was 98 outside. I cannot tell you what I drank. Holy cow. It was like my body was in the desert.

Today I shall try my PETALS.

Never worn them in my life.

This should be interesting.

kicker 06-09-2008 07:40 AM

I have a bra, well, would not call it my comfortable bra, but DH and I call it my magic bra. I'm fine on top, not real big, but fine. When wearing V-necks, this bra makes you go "What!". Bought a bra for DD, went back and got 2 more. It's a good one. I hate when I have to go bra-shopping, some fit me, some don't, in all the same size. Jeans too.

Kitty 06-09-2008 07:49 AM

I've finally gotten to the point where I don't care what size a piece of clothing is - as long as it's comfortable and looks half-way decent on me.

There's such a range of sizes within the same size....it's enough to drive you batty. I've found that the better made the article of clothing is the smaller the size I can wear.

Bras are my least favorite thing to shop for.

snoozie 06-09-2008 01:53 PM

I was at the mall shopping in my favorite store and the lady working there saw me come out with different shirts, SHe says, "don't be offended but I think you need a different bra" well what a difference it made to have someone fit me for a bra.

The girls sit up right and I was even able to get a smaller size shirt. I was bad about buying cheaper bras but no more. Now I have several in different colors and they look great...Sue

Curious 06-09-2008 01:59 PM

sue, what brand of bra did you buy?

i bought a new one at walmart..yeah i know cheap..yesterday.

i'm pretty busty. i knew i was outgrowing  my old ones. DD cup size in a 36 wasn't holding these girl in. :o

i bought a Sweet Nothings No Back Fat. strange name. it's a front hook bra. kinda looks like a cross back, but nore of t-back and has the nicest softest side elestic.

Hi Curious, I bought Cacique brand at Lane Bryant. They were I think 30.00 and also buy one get one half off. I also get coupons for 25.00 off a 75.00 purchase so I usually wait for sales like that. They have underwires but unlike other underwires I have worn these are comfortable. ...Sue

weegot5kiz 06-09-2008 02:46 PM

pardon the intrusion, deb asked me to add she also is using those bras from lane bryant, she loves them

as for my smart allec comment was gonna say this was last thread i read last night and dreamed of pillows all night lol

Kitty 06-09-2008 03:23 PM

Frank - I knew you'd find it hard not to comment on this thread!!! :D

Wren 06-09-2008 03:41 PM

:paperbag: I was a heavy smoker and SKINNY until all this stupid brain trouble that for unconnected reasons included breast surgery  so I quit smoking and gained a massive amount of weight...... anyhow ....... I have two breasts (surprise!!!!) and they are very different sizes.
No bra fits and I hate 'em all anyhow.

Curious 06-09-2008 03:45 PM

wren, there are bras now with removable pads. it helps with that problem. you can take out for bigger side. most woman are really the same on each side. frank...you didn't read that.

i also saw that more than one maker has bras now in 12 sizes. one was marked NT..lol..for nearly there.

MelodyL 06-09-2008 05:15 PM

I would like to know why they don't make B and a half, C and a half,

I am not a full C.

I would LOVE to find half cup sizes. Like shoes!!!! lol

Curious 06-09-2008 05:20 PM

they do mel. just not all bra makers do it.

it was the "nearly there" sizing i mentioned.

i'll check which brands i saw next time to go shopping. :)

playtex was one..i found thime online, but they were at walmart too

MelodyL 06-09-2008 07:11 PM

I MUST SAY THIS.

I LOVE YOUUUUUU!!!!

Nearly there.

There I shall go!!!

Thanks soo much!!!
---------------------------------------------------------

Okay, just came back. THEY DON'T HAVE MY SIZE in a Nearly there bra. It only goes up to 38. If you can find me a 42 nearly C, please put a link in. thanks much.

Curious 06-09-2008 07:17 PM

you are very welcome.

:D it's about time they made these huh? i know they would have been great for lil'monkey. she was stuck between sizes for so long. under penaly of death i can't say what size. anyone know morris code? :p

MelodyL 06-09-2008 07:46 PM

I see you read my initial post, but not my follow up that I put in, right after I went to that site.

They don't have any 42 nearly C's. Sure. they have 32, 34, 36 and 38.

But no 42's.

Where do I find a 42 nearly C.

I'd kill for one!!!! lol

Koala77 06-10-2008 01:02 AM

I'm one of those people who have to buy the sweater off the manequin in the store......that way the bumps are already in the sweater! .:winky:

It's embarrassing when some-one says "Madam, they don't make bras that small!" :Blush2:

kicker 06-10-2008 06:25 AM

If we can talk coffins, we sure can talk bras. It was bad enough I had to find the right ones for me, now DD needs some female guidance and more!!! I myself have pretty much given them up unless absolutely needed, with use of only one hand, almost impossible to put on by myself. Not like I'm a C or more!!:):)

Have you tried Dr. Scholls? :D They've got those gel inserts, you know.

kicker 06-10-2008 07:49 AM

Oprah would say go down in band size, up in cup (or stay the same if you like - me, not Oprah)- try 40C! I tried Oprah's advice and it worked!!! Stayed with same cup, changed band # and lost any bagging (I'm an almost too).

MelodyL 06-10-2008 08:51 AM

I've tried 40 C's (the $3.99 ones). They don't fit. Only the 42's fit, but the C cup doesn't fit.

So when I heard about the Nearly there bras from Playtex, I went there, and they only go to 38.

The next sizes are the 18 hour bras. I don't need any 18 hour bra. I just need a nice 42 almost C.

IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK FOR!!!!!!! AAARRRGGHH lol

But I will admit, the one I bought the other day, the 42C where my bust does not fully fit into the cups but you can't tell, well it's really nice and comfortable.

And I once bought those gel insert things. (Or did I buy the no bra look thing??) Oh yeah, I went to Mandees and they had this no bra thing. It is too round silicone things that stick to your breasts, and they are connected by a loop right in the middle.

Do you want to know what these things make you look like when you put them on?? I thought, (well, I saw the infomercial and I saw the photo on the box of the model wearing these things and the breasts on these people were PERKY!! and stood up. So when they put on these silicone things, their breasts remained where they were ...STANDING UP AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO PUT A BRA ON.

So Melody buys these silicone things for $20.00. I thought it was a bargain, I thought "wow, I'll never have to put on a bra ever again, I'll just stick these two silicon things on, loop them together and they'll form a bra".

Want to know what happened?

My breasts remained where they were. Hanging down. I stood there looking at my two hanging breasts and started laughing. I said "now why did I think my two breasts would stand up straight just because I put two silicone pads on the front of my breasts and looped them. All I had after doing this were two breasts that still hung down

These things are made for skinny people with 32 or 34 B's that stand up straight. Then you plop on these silicone things and you no longer need to put on a bra. That is not ME!!!

So I am still searching for the Almost a C in a size 42.

Ah the hunt for the perfect looking Boobs!!!

Doody 06-10-2008 09:58 AM

How did I miss this thread?

Get me started about the darn bras. All I want is comfortable. I don't even wanna know I have it on. :o

My daughter bought Wacoal bras this weekend at a department store here. VERY expensive bra, and she said she had never in her life had such an amazingly comfortable bra on. Really pretty too.

Again, these are VERY expensive.

And
wacoal-america

This is her all-time favorite but hard to find....drats.

tkrik 06-10-2008 10:00 AM

You are too funny!!! LOL. Those models for those silicone things are young and still have perky girls. That is why they work for them. If by chance they had an older person wearing them, well, airbrushing and Photoshop can make any woman's girls perky. LOL.

I have a horrible time finding bras that fit comfortably. A couple of months ago I thought of just designing and making my own. I find that bikini bathing suit tops can make great bras! Go figure. So based on the same material type and design, I may end up making my own.

MelodyL 06-10-2008 10:10 AM

Doody:

I clicked on the Wacoal bras. They are $60.00. Holy Cow. Why is a bra $60.00??

Good Lord. Too rich for my taste.
I'll stick with my $3.99 size 42 C's. even though I'm not a full C.

Melody

Yeah I know! I warned ya in bold print! They are VERY expensive. My daughter loves them. I have not yet found a bra that I love. :p Boy would I like to find one. Normally I go with the Playtex, certain ones, and find them okay.

I hate bras. :p Maybe I should go back to the 60s and 70s when I didn't wear one. YEAH RIGHT! Scare people to death! LOL

mrsD 06-10-2008 11:41 AM

well....

you could always do like Whoopi Goldberg!

(She and I share that solution BTW).

I saw an interview with her, where she discussed going
au naturelle and how the viewers were writing in furiously.
I don't know if she caved yet, however!

I had a severe thoracic back thing several years ago and
went to a chiropractor who when she adjusted it just blew me away. I couldn't wear a bra for a week! When I went back for the followup--- the chiro said...well...not a bad idea to go without...bras cause alot of back problems, she said. (BTW...while I won't post my stats, I am not small there)

So....guess what!--- I've always had feminist "tendencies" anyway! :yahoo:

Doody 06-10-2008 11:43 AM

Oh believe me! If I didn't have to be in an office every day, I'd be a saggin and a baggin everywhere I went, LOLOL!

I love this...my brain went south...my boobs went looking for them.

Jomar 06-10-2008 11:53 AM

Oh man this bra business is a big pain for sure...
I wish I could go natural but - it's chilly in Oregon quite often:eek:
I don't want to fuss with petals either LOL!
I need a bit of padding/ liner, no wires and comfortable fit - is that so hard ?
I guess it is:(

my fav style of 4 yrs ago changed designs - now the fit isn't the same and all the ones I try do not fit well at all.
I try a variety of brands/size combos because there is such a difference between makers and styles.

You can buy bra extenders...
They look like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Extenders-Indi.../dp/B0000864RH

I did them when I was pregnant... I was totally unprepared for how much I grew in that department!

tkrik 06-10-2008 01:46 PM

I have to say that I am so glad to hear I am not the only one with an issue finding a bra. Since I put on a little weight my itty bitty's became normal. I don't like normal because you have to wear a bra when going out. With itty bitty's petals would do fine.

Since the MS hug is almost a constant companion, the comfort of the band has become so important. I have yet to find a comfortable one. I have not tried a sports bra but am thinking about it. Maybe I will use a little of my SSDI for that next month.

In the meantime, I am seriously considering making my own not based on the standard calculations but on complete measurements also. I may be a B (or nearly B depending on the bra) now but sometimes the bra just doesn't fit and the wires cut in. I can't go to a C unless I want huge gaps and wrinkles showing through.

Should my design and bra turn out well, I will let you all know and give you instructions of how I made it.

weegot5kiz 06-10-2008 01:56 PM

hello this is debbie franks better half, the sale at lane bryant was one for 30 and second half off, it is the most i every spent on two bras but they are the best two bras I have ever worn, frank told me he posted this earlier on here, I just wanted to let you all know, that it might of cost a few bucks but i felt they were well worth it. glad he allowed me time on the laptop, it was so gracious of him :::smack::::

thank you
