Two things about reading books
One thing is new since MS: I can't read the kind of book where they skip back and forth between generations or that kind of thing, three or four threads going on at the same time. Or the characters take turns writing chapters in the first person. I just can't keep track of who's who and what's going on. :(
The other thing has always bugged me when I'm reading fiction: child characters who say things children wouldn't say. Unless the child is set up as being precocious, they lose me the minute I hear myself think "A child that age would never say it that way." Just my random thought this morning. Have a great Monday (as if THAT's not a contradiction of terms). |
I hear you! There are books by certain authors I can no longer read. If they take too much energy to follow the story line, I don't bother reading them. It's funny how my taste in books have changed recently. I am much more selective about the kinds of books I will read. Since it takes so much effort to read, it better be something worth reading about!

I don't read that much anymore, but I know what you mean about children saying things in a non-childlike way. Kind of like the whole Peanuts gang who tend to speak like grown-ups.
So, do you feel the same about sit-coms? |
I mostly don't watch sitcoms. They're mostly vulgar and stupid. Give me "Leave it to Beaver".

Hahaha! I got edited! :D |
I like the Cisco Kid so much that I named my cane Loco after Pancho's horse. :D
|
Sometimes I have a tough enough time reading the paragraphs on boards like these...get my sentences all jumbled, LOl....
Oh and I love Leave it to Beaver too :D {I wonder if subconsciously I named my son Wally...well...after Wally ?! ;) } |
I get ya...I can no longer read Anne Rice for that reason!
|
NaeNae-
You're an Anne Rice fan, too?? :D It's been a while, but I loved the Mayfair Witch series :D |
im a big ray bradbury fan and i would love to read his works again but it has to be large print for me or i lose what line i was on, if that makes any sense

I've always been a reader, since I was about four. When I was a kid, I'd read with a flashlight under the blankets.
I would read in the car, read in the bathroom, read at the table, read in the tub, read while I was watching television. I used to take about 15 books from the library at once when my kids were little. I subscribed to about a dozen magazines to fill in the gaps. Now it takes me two weeks to read a book, and if I miss a day, I have no idea what's going on and have to backtrack. Half the time I get to the end of a paragraph and realize that I have no clue what I just read. After I do that three times with the same paragraph, I give up. Sometimes people recommend books to me, and I think, "Yeah, right. I'll get right on that." Like recommending War and Peace to a pre-schooler. Duh. |
What's a "book"?
|
I love to read.... we don't watch TV so ready is what we do but I am finding it harder and harder plus I read so much in text books that I am tired by the time I can fit a "book" in. But, I understand what you are saying, B2U.
In Business Law we are studying Codes and Laws.... try reading the UCC standard laws and understanding them when Cog issues are there...... wow, that is a brain problem! |

I like to read Danielle Steel novels - mainly because they are fairly easy to follow. This last one that I'm trying to read ("Sisters") has been a little difficult. I find myself having to go back and reread more and more often in order to keep up with the storyline. I hope this isn't something that will get progressively worse - 'cos I love to read.....:( |
Gladys- the Mayfair Witch series was my favorite! May have to re read them!
