Hi, Larry! It's nice to meet you! :) Sixy-years-old, huh? Happy birthday! :D Everyone is afraid of death, and there are a lot of people on this site who truly understand that feeling. Some are older just like you, and some are very young. But they are all wonderful, warm and caring people. Try making some friends here. I think you'll find that this is what helps most of all. Good luck and best wishes, Larry...:)

I just wanted to thank everybody for welcoming me to this site. I wasn't able to thank each of you individually because I am still learning how to navigate my way around. I am looking forward to talking with people who are upbeat and friendly.
Thanks again Larry |
Hi Larry,
Welcome. Have you talked to your doc about your feelings? I know sometimes its hard, but depression is a medical condition and being able to cope with it will help you with other issues with your health and relationships in the long run. Food for thought, It was hard for me to do, but I am glad I did. |
Hi krelnk,
I have seen a counselor on and off for years and was treated for Generalized Anxiety and Depression. My Anxiety is much better now and I can cope a lot better with people and other situations that come up in daily life. I don't feel nearly as down as I used to be but I don't feel like I have any direction or purpose when I am not working at my daily job. I am married and have two grown children and I love my wife dearly. I pretty much work, come home, help out around the house, eat, watch a little TV and go to bed and start over the next day. Thanks foe listening, I need to go back to bed before the sun comes up. Larry |

Hello Larry!
It's nice that you're here, I'm new here myself. It's nice ta meetcha! If you don't mind, may I ask a question? You've been fairly descriptive of your life, and what ails you. If you hadto stop and think, and come up with an answer to this, what would it be? What do you want to be when you grow up? (Now, I'm assuming that your family is happy, like you said, and you like your job). I mean, if a "genie gave you one wish, to DO SOMETHING" what would it be? You can't ask for "a cure", you hafto ask for something "To Do". Something that you would have to spend a lot of time doing, so you'd need to enjoy it somewhat. Music, painting, sports, games, hiking, fishing, see, I'm talking hobby type things, even work, or meditation. As opposed to working on a chain gang. What would you say? Anyway, I hope we get to talk more! Glad you're here. ASB Pete |
Hi,
You know I am going to think about that and I will let you know what I decided. Nice to meet you also by the way, Larry |
Picking a hobbie
Hi Pete,
I thought about what you said and I have always been interested in photography. Since I was a young teenager I have enjoyed taking pictures. Why haven't I pursued it ? You know, I watch National Geographic or the other nature programs that come on and just marvel at the photographs these people take. I get all excited and go to Barnes and Noble and buy a book or books on basic photography and sit down to read them and this lasts about 10 minutes . I get so bogged down in all the technical stuff that I never go out and actually photograph anything. I do have a nice small digital Canon camera which does take nice pictures but again it is pocket size. It nothing like the bigger SLR cameras with the telephoto lenses for getting close ups of animals in nature. I just can't afford to spend the money for one of those cameras let alone the telephoto lenses. So there you go, I get interested in something and before you know it I have talked myself out of it. The times that I have put my camera in my pocket and have actually gone somewhere and walked around with the thought in my mind to take pictures, most of the time I am so self conscious about photographing people, places or things that I don't take anything. So, a lot of times I don't bother doing anything. Larry Quote:

But Larry there are so many great things to do!
Dear Larry,
There are so many wonderful things to fill your day with, you've just got to start the hunt, that's all. I think the best hobbies are those that serve others, so for example if you're interested in helping people with Medicare problems, there is a nationwide volunteer service called SHIP. It's in every state, and it helps people who need Medicare help the most. I've been volunteering for 1 1/2 years, and I've never loved the hardest job I don't make a dime at more in my entire life. There is always music. I've taught piano for 20 years part-time, and some of my best students have been those 60 and older. Maybe it's your time? Are you tired of bland and boring food, then how about learning how to really cook, like the big guys do? Start with the Food channel, and then go and search out best cooks that make the types of food you enjoy the most. I've been amazed at how my own cooking skills have really increased, and the best part is you get to share it with those you love and care for. Maybe it's time to join bird brains, or at least those little feathered friends. I've gotten so involved, I now go through over 3 pounds of food a day, and I love it. There is so much to learn, and it's a calming and joyful hobby to boot! Now this is a starting point. If you're wanting more, then drop me a line. Bob. Quote:

Hang in There
Larry,
Everyone is afraid of death. Why are you even thinking about this subject though? 60 is the new 30 in this day and age don't you know? I always remember that no matter how bad you have it someone else in the world is having it way worse. Jillybean |
