I understand your frustration. I take Xanex for anxiety..but it does relax everything else, too. A friend of mine takes Suma (sp?) for back spasms., Dew |
just to to mention
I will put this out just for the possibility it might help you skelaxin. Didnt work for me but might work for you.

Just wondering,
why isn't your doctor thinking for you, instead of the other way 'round? I use zanaflex, (to help with sleep) and Diazapam in the daytime. Whatever you end up with, Just so it does it's job. And, if you have difficulty with your stomach, maybe your doctor will RX something to go along with his med of choice???? It may take a while, and calls into his office. Just suggestin'... Pete asb |
Hi Debbie,
Have you given Valium a go, it was the best muscle relaxer I had. Soma would be my second choice. Like you, I had terriable side effects to certain meds. but these 2 seemed to help me some, without the zombie feeling. Much Love, Roz |
Good luck. I am having major issues with pain and doctor giving me a hard time about meds. Like we all really want to take all this medicine! He makes me feel like a drug addict when I can barely get out of bed. I hope you find something, and post it for all of us to see what may help. Linda:)

Hello,
I use skelaxin it works for my full body RSD. It doesn't have the side effects that a lot of meds. have. I take .5 ml. twice a day of Ativan for anxiety. Good luck and I hope you find relief soon!!!! Take care, Sherrie |

Have a good day. Denny |
I am on Tetrazepam, have been for years. It helps with the muscle cramps. It also puts me right to sleep, so I mostly take it at night. It doesn't help me sleep the night, but at least I can maybe get 2 to 3 hours of sleep. When I have to take it during the day, I take half of a tablet or a quarter tablet (and I still get really sleepy).

I also take Flexeril and it works great for me. No tummy upset or luppy feeling. Morphine makes my blood pressure plummet so I stay away from it. Good luck with these:) Sally |
I just started klonopin for this. I take it 2 times daily but it is been just over a week so can't really give any feedback. Someone suggested it to me and I suggested it to my neuro. Good luck and I hope you get relief

I used to take klonopin, and was told that it's (sort of) slow release, longer acting diazepam (valium). It worked good! pete asb |
I take 20 pills per day, under my current PM, and he has helped me with my pain issues. I just don't take a muscle relaxant as I don't need one.
|
Botch my upper leg muscles (biggest muscles in the leg) twitch from time to time, especially the one on the right, but mostly they are so tense it hurts, and the tension is so strong, I can't loosen them up. That's why the muscle relaxer gives a lot of relief to the pain itself. Unfortunately, I have to make a choice, that's why I take the relaxer mostly at night, because I do fall asleep on the medication.
|
Soma, A wonder drug. It really relaxes you. It is a muscle relaxer but it works great for stree too.
|
Soma
I take half a soma pill like six times a day, as needed, sometimes less than that. It makes me sleepy if I take too much, so I only take the one half. Beware of soma in that it has aspirin in it. I have to take it with some food though, ulcers hurt me if I don't.

Hi Debbie,
I have not used any muscle relaxers since I got inquired, wait I did use baclofin for a short period after one of the many surgeries I have had, anyway I have heard that Soma/Carisaprodol(spelling) is one of the best. Maybe suggest that to your PM doctor. Gabbycakes Quote:

Have you thought about another pain Dr.? I wouldn't be able to handle being questions in that tone. There needs to trust between a dr. and patient and apparently he does't trust or show respect for you. Apparently, he doesn't have the understand of RSD. That's how I personnally view his remarks. Or you could have an honest talk with him, about it makes you feel when he questions meds. And you need your Dr. to believe in you and trust you. Honestly, it really wouldn't be acceptable to me. I dislike very much being on these meds, who wouldn't want to be like we used to be, driving a car, working, exercising, vacations, etc. So much has been taken from us because of RSD, meds make our life tolerable and out of tortous pain. Let us know which drug you end up liking. Like I said, I think I'm next. Take care, your friend loretta hugs:hug: |
i prefer zanaflex 4mg tabs only for bad spasms, the capsules made me ill. but this will make me nap for an hour or two just like most muscle relaxers. i think soma works best if you dont want to nap right away. these days i dont need them daily so i might need to try something lighter like baclofen. if the spasms are not too bad i use valium and sometimes ativan works. i start with a half pill and i take more as needed.

Soma is not a good muscle relaxant for those using opiates. It is metabolized to the old tranquilizer meprobamate which is the active compound. This is quite habit forming as well. Soma is involved yearly in many deaths due to respiratory failure combined with opiates. one example in detail: http://www.aafp.org/afp/20030301/letters.html 3rd letter down. With all the muscle relaxants out there, it would be prudent to choose one that does not have the characteristics of Soma IMO. |
I have been taking soma for 25 years. It is the best moscle relaxer I have ever taken. My dr. prescribed 4 a day when I first started taking them I only take them when I need them and have never had to take more. Years ago they were called soma compound, the compound was asperin. Now they are just soma, minus the asperin.

sorry, asprin.

I am on skelaxin but the doc put me on 800 mgs 3 times a day but I only take it twice a day because I am afraid of what it could do to my organs. I don't know if it helps as i am on a lot of other meds and don't know what does what anymore.
Sincerely, Tracy |

Okay there are tons of muscle relaxers out there... Norflex is a great one with little side effects....my doc even said I could work on it. Yet it also didn't do much for me. It may be a good idea if you can't find one that works for you to try message therapy too....it really help my muscles. I am talking true therapy though not a spa treatment.
Sorry to hear that you are having a rough time and I hope you find a solution soon! positive thoughts your way, Jennelle Quote:
