*Nerve problems and pain

Hello last Sept I had a full hip replacement whilst the actual surgery was a success unfortumately I suffered nerve damage. This has resulted in numbness to calf area and foot. Whilst some areas of foot have some feeling large areas are still numb. I have some movement but not great. I am unable to go on tiptoes on that foot. Also some areas have become massively over sensative. In that if I bang or stand on the smallest lump it is excrutiating. My worry is that this seems to be increasing to point of affecting mobility. Oh leg is red/purple and still swells up as the day goes on. Sorry its a moan

Good Morning :)

Moan away ! We're here to listen and sometimes moan and vent ourselves :)

I have SFN and totally understand heightened sensitivity of the feet (and hands). Sometimes I bang a toe or step on something....they either have to pull me out of the ceiling because of the pain or I feel nothing at all. Weird.

Sorry had to chortle and look at the ceiling. It certainlyis. Problem is im not allowed to return to work as I am employee liabilaty thing. I have had a long sporting lifestyle and ruptured broke and just about done everything but always beat it. This I cant, i adapt things like my walk but its seriously frustrating

Glad I could give you a 'chortle'....lol....that was my intention ! Sometimes that is really all we can do....laugh at ourselves.

I wish you luck in this journey and so sorry you are going through this. I'm sure you will receive a lot of information from the people on this site.

Please keep us posted :)

Hi Legin,

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I too suffered nerve damage during a surgery which caused a neuroma that was later removed in a revision. Fun times! I have CRPS from something else. You said you have nerve damage...did they do nerve conduction study to find it? You might want to look at my post on local steroid injections just for the heck of it. I am always hoping someone who lands here has an undiagnosed/untreated nerve entrapment or irritation. Not being able to weight bear like you want is terribly frustrating, especially for go, go, go types who are used to being superheroes. I have found swimming to be invaluable to my recovery after all three foot/ankle surgeries. I also spend a fair amount of time on the bike and on machines I can tolerate at the gym. Keeping my strength has gone a long way towards wellness physically and psychologically. Hang in there and never stop asking questions or looking for solutions. Stubbornness is a great personality trait to get you through.
Sending Healing Love,

Hi Legin,
I'm too sorry to hear about it all. Moan away though as I know from experience that moaning and venting does actually help. It helps because we know that we are all willing to listen. Lending an ear with understanding. Nobody asked for this monster but now we're stuck dealing with it all.
Be well...

Ty all. I was on gaberpetin (sp) but recently stopped it as it really was getting me down which is opposite from my normal oafish character. I had a full neurophysiological assessment which confirmed the nerve damage. You know they say dont look down well dont I saw a needle 3 inches in calf muscle didnt kmow a thing, did say to chap it works same way if you stick it in my head. Have a vascular clinic next week as dr didnt like leg colour or size. Sheeeeeesh finally get a calf muscle and its not right.
Oh I do about 15k on static bike and got to 10k walks before foot started shouting. Yup in Scotland with loch on doorstep. Beautifull place I have a hill nearby 1000 ft straight up its my goal as my thinking rock is there. Ty for listening - listens to snores
