Hi Richard,

Where do you live ?

I'm in Marshfield. I had a lot of difficulty (and a long 2 year struggle) getting a dx. I was dx'd with TOS by the IME doctor my worker's comp company sent me to. He thought I should be fine to go back to work though, seeing as no one was treating me for TOS. My doctors "didn't believe in TOS" It was an awful mess.

In desperation, I emailed a vascular surgeon that I saw mentioned on another TOS site. I explained the problem and asked if he could suggest anyone for me to see to officially get the dx. I figured as a surgeon, he would only see me if I needed surgery. He emailed me back that day.....and set up a visit for me a few days later.

That was Dr Rapheal Bueno at Brigham and Womens in Boston.

He wanted me to see the neurologist who would provide most of the care and sent me to Dr John Mahoney at Carney Hospital. Dr Mahoney had me do physical therapy with Sheila Caldwell of Jordan Rehab in Halifax. I had done PT before, but the wrong kind. In the past the had me start with weights and it made everything worse. Sheila started with myofascial release work and there was a big improvement (as long as I don't do anything, like go to a store, housework, laundry, etc)

I don't know how far away you would be, but I highly recommend all of these practioners.

I also have a great chiro because of cervical/thoracic spine issues too.

Good luck. I know how hard it is to find a knowledgable doc to help.

hi finz

hello finz, wondering if Dr Bueno is a tos diagnostician who used clinical tests and manuevers like the roos test and adson test and allen test etc while checking pulse and others to make a tos diagnosis or leaves that up to the neurologist Mahoney. Since you actually had an office visit with him did he strike you as a doctor very familiar with thoracic outlet or not. I ask you this because I have an appointment with him and have been so disappointed with previous doctors who after the visit you realize they have just a passing familiarty with the condition, so am curious to know your opinion.

Louis Messina moved from UCSF in San Francisco and is now at Massachusetts General Hospital (I think).

He was very connected with Peter Edgelow when Messina was in the bay area. I think it would be worth checking him out.

MA Doctor

I am seeing Dr. Sang-Gil Lee at Mass General for the second time next week. He is supposed to be the expert at Mass General on TOS. I will let you know how it goes. He order EMG test for me this week and they came back negative for nerve damage.

I had Capsule reduction surgery on the shoulder last Nov and I can at least move the arm after the MVA now. Dr. Holovacs did the shoulder work.

Between the original injury and the surgery and first guess at TOS I have done over 100 sessions at PT over 23 months. Still doing the work, but no relief.

Good luck with hunt!

Hey Richard.....when was/is your appointment with Dr Bueno ?

Yes, he did ALL of the manuevers :) and dx'd me. He was very knowledgeable about TOS

Hi Richard..
Hope things are going o.k.... Like Finz.. I to saw ALOT of Dr's around Mass and so far Raphel Bueno seems to a very good Dr. I just saw him in July and he is the one who DX'D me also with Arterial TOS. I unfortunately do not see him any more. I was able to find a Pain Mmgt Dr. here where I live ( the drive to Boston was killing me at the time )

I have seen almost all the Dr's that know or knew something about TOS but Dr. Bueno so far was the most knowledgeable. It took me about 2 years also to find the right one too !

Penman.. Have you had a bone scan ?? So far my Pain Management Dr. (Dr. Wong ) has been the best one who actually KNOWS about TOS ... he ordered a bone scan and he also found I have RSD too. Maybe you could check and see about a Pain Management Dr. that might be able to help too.

Richard, I hope this helps ya.

Where is Dr. Wong?

Dolfinz 11-20-2007 10:03 AM

Hi Withmore..

Dr. Wong is in Fitchburg, ma. so far he is the only one that really wanted to investigate more.. ie the bone scan and a few other ones for TOS and like I said he also discovered the RSD..

Richard, how are things going for you ?

Hi to everyone...
