Help! Having problems with Hot, stuffy work environment

Hi All,
I work in a office (first let me say I work part time and I am the new kid on the block and it is your typical talk behind back office) majority of the people are always cold., the room has the old heaters that are not controlled by thermostat but just run and run., we have cubicles., I was on the side away from windows and more stuffy., after everyone got very upset with me as when it was probably around 85 or higher and stuffy I would open a back window or open the door to a hallway., one particular person who is not the boss but is the boss ( as he screams and carries on and is relentless till you give in) complained and complained said his feet was cold.......it was the coldest of 56 degrees outside and this is already starting.......ugh!!!!!
well they moved me to another cubicle by a window.....yea so I opened the window 2 inches and had a fan blowing the air from the window to me.....he complained and said it was traveling 6 cubicles down and made his feet cold.....on and on., the girls in the front are young and always cold they have already wore gloves on their hands and down vests when it is 50 some degrees outside., and they leave these on in the office..........beyond me....well we had a meeting., and I am not allowed to open any windows unless it is 55 degrees or higher outside., who cares that it is 90inside and can't breathe.......no compromise for me I am stuck, I have two fans going., any other suggestions., my boss and most fellow employees know I have MG but who cares.........they certainly don't, I am getting worse when I am there and so tired and fatigued and my eyes droop more........please any suggestions on how to keep cooler., I am wearing crop pants and summer tops., it will be rough today because it is cool out this morning 46 degrees but going up to 70 today., I guess I can open a window........since it is above 55 outside.....lol

Try cool wraps for your neck and keep ice water with you at all times. When I was working heat always made me feel worse and cool towels and ice water was my savior. Good Luck and I hope you get relief.

your work enviroment doesn't sound so great. don't you have an occupational physician that can make proper recomendations?

I have personally found that this makes a very big difference.

Help! Having problems with Hot, stuffy work environment

I have a friend with MS and she has a cooling vest she wears when she is outdoors in the heat. She has young boys in sports and needed it to keep from overheating. I think she told me her Dr. told her about them. It might be worth checking into. I also agree with Joan Marie about drinking ice water and having cold neck wraps.

Afraid I have to be a realist here, but the corporate world usually takes the path of least resistence with workforce - - and certainly can now with unemployment as high as it is.

Manager's aren't going to upset the office (productivity) to accomodate a part time newbie when the full time, trained and productive folks are getting riled about it. (Ironically, temperatures in office are the foremost topic of contention in my experience.)

No, it may not be fair - - but it is what it is. If you can not find a way to make it work, it may be this is not the right part time job for you..because the chances of you getting them to change are quite small.

Sorry 'bout that,
Sue

maybe you are right, and it just makes me realize how lucky I am in this regard.

I have always found that there is a great deal of discrimination in the work place. The bullies always 'win'. Unless you can get a letter from your Dr and then proof that the management are violating the Dr's instructions - you will find yourself in a losing situation.

Until I read this topic I never realised that I was like this when working and how it re to my health. I was always wanting 'air' and the others wanting warmth and stuffiness. The management ended up stepping in and not allowing anyone to alter the temperature settings - even though they worked in an office and did not have to work in that area.

Sorry - but 'teacher's pets' always win in the work place.

Can you start to think of another job or a profitable work from home hobby ? The stress from this situation is not going to help you at all !

Yeah but sometimes "teacher's pets" hate being that or being called that!!! ;) Having been one in grade school, it made me extremely uncomfortable. In fact, I hated it.

Ditto on what Sue said. It's almost impossible to change the dynamics of a work place. There must be a way to keep you cool and the others "hot." I've been in some rough workplace environments too.

If you have any kind of disability, however, even if you aren't "on" disability, it is illegal for them to discriminate against you. Being hot makes MG worse. They are basically endangering your life by not getting you a cool enough area to work in.

I wish there was some way you could get a better job/work environment. Jobs are tough to come by all over.

Good luck.

Having worked in HOT SCHOOLS for years -- I suggest a cool air vaporizer -- the kind you use when you have a cold. Have the thing blowing directly in your face -- it will make you feel WONDERFUL! If you can manage to take a small container of ice with you -- and add it to the water -- BLISS!!!

The cool mist vaporizor sounds good., and not expensive., I need my job it took me 2 years to find a job, it is rural here and not many to come by., and the part time works out great., it is like any office too many people crammed together and you always have that one..............
I will try the suggestions and thanks so much.......:)
