How many??
I have been reading thru a lot of posts today and I've noticed that some people have had more than one SCS implanted. I'm confused as to why considering the implant states that it has a long life ie ten years or more. Is it possible that it can malfunction etc and if one needed a replacement would your medical insurance cover it? I know nothing is forever but.......:)

Forever
While there are matters which are undoubtedly infinite as to time, the literature relevant to the lion's share of the implant items references a 5 year warranty period. Some bear them longer than others, although the wisdom as I have learned it is that replacement of the generator unit provides one a fresh battery unit while also availing of then newer technology. My understanding, and bear in mind no warranty of any sort is intended or implied in what I write here, is that insurance steps to the plate for manufacturer/physician recommended replacements so as to avoid undue realities of system failure, onset of pain, and the like. I will count myself fortunate if five years hence this wonder of wonders still functions as advertised.

My sentiments exactly!

Yes I would also feel that 5 years plus would be tremendous. Considering I'm suffering over five years and that's a LONG time. My rep did comment that they expect battery life to exceed 10 years minimum!! So here's to a bright future! Jackie:) |
