Cool How many??

I have been reading thru a lot of posts today and I've noticed that some people have had more than one SCS implanted. I'm confused as to why considering the implant states that it has a long life ie ten years or more. Is it possible that it can malfunction etc and if one needed a replacement would your medical insurance cover it? I know nothing is forever but.......
