Anyone get Paddle Leads?
Just curious about your experience if you have gotten paddle leads vs regular leads?
|
Oh Yeah
Hi Twinmom-
I have Boston Scientific paddles after having also experienced the leads during the trial. My surgeon and physiatrist concurred with me that coverage would be enhanced with the paddles, while stability of the permanent install would be less susceptible to anomaly due to throwing bales of hay or falling and the like as you may have seen on other threads [Rae and Tchr012] whose percutaneous leads did migrate. My implant was 30 June and I have had Excellent coverage since then. I vote paddles from my perspective. Your doc and rep would be excellent sources for asking the questions which will get you to the right profile for you. Even so, I am SOLD on paddles. Praying for the best outcome for you, Mark56:hug:z |
......now WHO on EARTH.....!
.....would throw BALES of HAY after getting an SCS?!!?
Whoever did that must've been blimey 'MAD' .... ehemm. :Blush2: Yes, 'tis as Mark says......the risk of lead migration is much higher with the percutaneous placed leads, as they are simply anchored to the dura fleshy meaty 'stuff' we humans are endowed with..... as opposed to the paddles, which are done via laminectomy....... well HERE, this link really tells it all......forgive me if I've already given you this link.....I think I'm becomming OCD about it.... I just think it's a wonderful site that explains everything so very well...... Thank you (once again :p) Fiona for providing that link to us up in the stickies.... http://www.nationalpainfoundation.or...e-technologies Perhaps some questions to consider on this topic are things such as......what type of activities do you enjoy....... There have been several very active cyclists, army guys and the like pass thru our little forum.....wonder how they are getting along? It's a pretty big decision to make, so I'd make certain you've got good communication on this with your Dr. Last I knew, it usually required a neurosurgeon to do the paddles.....maybe this has changed? My regular pain management anesthesiologist (needle jockey  --- ...he knows i call him that and doesn't seem to mind...) did my percutaneous leads. Others will be along to throw in their 2 cents Rae :grouphug: |
Oh, and there is KZLRogue
Now she is discharged Army, used to combatives, proving herself, doing the things she had to do as a soldier [we understand in this household since one of our sons is Army] AND post permanent SCS was allowed to play Golf.
I'm gonna go see whether she might chime in here. Could be helpful. Oh, and I am sorry, I should have spoken about breaking bales of hay into manageable small amounts to feed horses. :thud::paperbag::Blush2: What was I ever thinking.... if at all. How is PJ by the way, Rae? Here I go to see about Rogue. 'Bye, Mark56:) |
Hi Twinmom
I had my regular leads implanted back in Aug 2010. I have some great relief in my legs and by now Im told there is a great amount of scar tissue built up which is , thankfully, keeping them in place..... I dont partake of the tossing of bales of hay though:D aheeeeemmmmmmmmmmmmmmm;) I too had my pain Dr do my leads he is a Consultant Anaesthetist. As this procedure is relatively new here in Ireland, my Consultant has only done 15 procedures to date.....not a lot compared to the States Im sure....but overall Im very happy with how the both the trial and permanent implant went, even if I had a 'little':rolleyes:blip with having to replace my 'faulty' battery....but hey thats life and I wouldnt be without my SCS now, not one bit!!!! Thank you Jackie

PJ is doing great (My most recent colt born this past July for those who don't know.....I named him PJ for "Praise Jesus", as this was during a wonderful time in Mark's journey!) Unfortunately, I'm going to have to face the reality that I simply can NOT care for all these horses the way they need and deserve, so I will be selling the 2 youngest this spring (PJ included :( )....but it's for the best. They will be nothing more than pasture pets if they stay with me and I really want them to be able to be REAL horses! Also, my stallion got 'busy' ;) with my 2 mares this past Spring, so I will have 2 more newborns...... I'll never EVER get rid of my precious 5 original horses. They will grow old (right along with me ) and I think I can find a younger more suitable person to work with them and stuff. But as new arrivals come, they will be sold to bring much joy to someone else who perhaps has always dreamed of owning a horse. Awhile back, we had some other horse SCSers......I wonder how they are getting along. Gosh, when I think of how many people have actually crossed our path here at our little forum, I realize we've been aquainted with MANY walks of life. I just love this forum! I truly do! :grouphug: ........obviously, as I am just rambling on and on...... Oh DEAR! I have completely strayed away from the original topic of this thread! I had to peek back at the first post to see what the question was! Forgive me twinmom!! :o |
'Twas Paddle Leads
You know, for paddling if necessary. That reminds me of an eighth grade math teacher who used a paddle on misbehavers....... right there in class.
Now back to Nik's question. I think Smae has paddles, true? I know I do. Glad they are in there nice and tight [or so I am told]. Mark56:) |
This ol broad has leads, HOWEVER I am on my 2nd set of leads due to a fall (dislocated shoulder, torn ligaments, nasty bleeding knee wound and of course tears) were all involved, Should be mentioned that I am on my 3rd (YES) SCS unit, and even though I am a nurse would undergo yet another implant, all the LONG trips, pain and precautions yet again when needed:eek:
:hug:z |
Pooh
You are thoroughly  and :You-Rock:. :I-Agree: with the idea of doing it all again if necessary when, as, and if this techno miracle wears out and something new must be installed.
Yep, Mark56 Rae- sure do wish I had the parcel of land, the gumption, the wherewithall to care for PJ, because I would buy that pony....... oh well, in another time....... Yep- Mark56 PJ, and yes, I do praise Jesus, as you wrote.:grouphug: |
