My Buzzer Stutters
Okay, so y'all know I'm a few days post-implant and while I could call my Medtronic rep I really don't want to. I'd prefer to hear from y'all (seems odd I feel closer to some of y'all that I've not ever met than I do folks that I have met!).
Here's the scoop: As the Title says, my buzzer stutters. I can be completely motionless, feeling the buzzing along in my leg and it'll suddenly stop..then re-start, stop, re-start, etc. Sometimes when it re-starts it does so with a bit of a jolt - can be a little uncomfortable at times but usually it's just a start/stop thing with little or no jolt at all. Is it possible, from what y'all have experienced and/or heard of along the way, that the normal post-op swelling is contributing to this and it will go away in time? Or is this the 'nature of the beast' and it happens to everyone? Or is there a possibility there's something wrong with the pulse-generator (PLEASE not that!) that was missed when they ran the full set of diags on it before they sewed me up? What say ye all on this? Thanks ahead of time... |
Stutters
Well this is just an opinion from an old nurse and a longtime buzzer. I think it is from the swelling as things scar in it should be better. I found that just sitting still the leads could shift with just breathing:eek: If it isnt better in a couple of weeks then call your Medtronic rep! (I hope you dont have to drive a long distance to see your doc and your rep!)

You are not alone in that and now six weeks later, I hardly ever have it happen so I think it is swelling and stuff.

HI POOH!! :hug::hug:
I agree with Pooh & TK. Swelling after surgery and scar tissue later on can play all sorts of little tricks. Be sure your Rep is aware of this. Most of us needed a couple (if not more) tweak sessions with the rep during recovery. There are so many factors as to why we get these jolts and shocks along the way. It's not uncommon for the stimulation to shift around a bit - usually do to the swelling. Sometimes sitting in a chair can press on the leads and cause jolts or increased stimulation. Same thing when you look down. Your neck muscles pull on the leads and cause the stimulation to change. This should all fall into place tho. In the meantime, don't be afraid to bug your Rep. That's what they are paid to do. You really want to stay on top of things during this crucial healing time. If something isn't 'right', you don't want your leads to scar in too much if they need adjusted. You're wise to mention these things and of course we've got your back the best we can. Even tho we are the geniuses that we are  it's still better to get the professional advice. Yer gonna be just fine my friend :) Rae :grouphug: |
Thanks Y'all!
Yeah, I'm going to mention it to the Medtronic dude but wanted feedback from veterans of the technology so - thank you (again).
Rae, I know it changes with any body movement - learned that real quick with the Trial. What had me slightly concerned was being completely still and it still fluxuates - but I will wait patiently and also let Mr. Medtronic know about it when I go in to have the dressings removed Friday morning. Y'all are the best! :grouphug: |
No shifting here ;)
Ive my stim just over 2 years now, since mid August. Its now that I really feel its advantages insofar that it doesnt shift around as much as it used to in the beginning. Like the head movements sent it all over the place:eek:and sitting sent it haywire....but now I notice it doesnt shift so much so obviously the leads have scarred in quite well and its doing the job it is meant to do....thankfully ;)

Hmmmm.....
Wow, Andy...I'm s-s-so s-s-sorry to hear about your b-b-b-buzzer st-st-stuttering. Hee hee....sorry, couldn't resist! Sounds like you got some good input from the other folks here, so I'm hoping it helped and that maybe today the unit is functioning better. I know I wasn't much help, but your description of the stuttering buzzer just tickled my funny bone! Seriously, I pray that each day you feel better n' better. BTW, I'm kind of a fellow-Texan...I was born in Vernon, then my folks moved to California when I was a baby. I'm still a Texan at heart, though. :winky:
Take care and heal quickly! Jan  |
Today's appointment
Well, the post-op bandages are off, as are most of the staples - she left a few in, I assume around the battery-pack, and will remove those Wednesday morning.
I had several chats with my Medtronic rep and, in the end, he does not know for sure what's causing the stuttering. He agrees it can be swelling/etc that will subside over time but he doesn't know. He kept trying to go down the path of, "changing positions" and I kept assuring him it wasn't always changing positions when it happened...and finally it happened while I was standing in front of him. He assured me the diags are fine but I really pinpointed him down to WHAT is "fine" and he told me the leads are good - no shorts or problems with current. So I point-blank asked him, "Would you know if the pulse generator was defective?" He tried to elude my question with an answer about the battery/power/connections but I wouldn't let him...hit him again, "Would you know if the pulse generator itself were defective?" He finally admitted, "No, I wouldn't" and we left it at that. Needless to say I am praying this subsides in the coming days/weeks. I know I am very early in this process and some of y'all have said you experienced the same things and some have said, "Nope - didn't have anything like that and it sounds like it might not be good". I can assure y'all I have plenty of peace about it but even in the midst of peace we can have questions about if something is working right nor not. |
Hi Andy :)
Strange how the Rep was a bit evasive when pushed eh!??? I had my implant in 6 months when lo and behold the battery wouldnt charge:eek::eek: That little orange light just would not turn green to say it was charging correctly. I went back to the Rep and my Dr....I was told to all sorts, like not have the TV on while charging, or dont go near the microwave:rolleyes:.....or turn it on in the bath :D Well all to no avail and it turned out the battery was faulty and needed to be replaced...yep more surgery but it was done and is all good now.... So if your gut feeling thinks something is not right, then maybe just maybe its not.....hopefully we are wrong but make sure you check it out fully Jackie :) |
