Tv

Does anybody else fuse with the tv during depression? There has to be a better way through this than sugar and Toddlers in Tiaras reruns.

I watch allot of T V. I don't know what else to do. I live way out in the country in a rural area. I'm sort of depressed, and am not interested in my hobbies right now.

I was just watching T V before I came into this room where my computer is. BF:hug::hug::hug:

I stayed away from the tv the whole day except for watching Homeland on showtime for an hour.

I did waste the rest of the day cruising the Internet.

I am depressed probably.

Suggestions are to
~exercise / walk
~sleep
~find something meaningful to do
~get some sunshine depending on where you live
~be selective about the t.v. time and shows

I read a study once that rocking in a rocking chair seemed to help some people -- something about how it is similar to walking in getting the brain reconnected

Do you like tv sometimes.

Hi,
T.V. is not my friend.
I have some periods where I watch a lot of tv.
I do a weird thing where I might watch the same movie over and over again --- for example when Showtime repeats a movie over 4 or 5 months.

->For the past three days, I have watched only an hour or two of t.v. and I feel good about that.
I have watched ZERO news. I feel great about that.

I watch Netflix when I'm depressed. I use it as an escape. I figure my problems will still be here when I get back, but at least I'll get a distraction from them for a while. I'm not saying this is healthy, just what I do.

Edited to add: I only do this once the children are in bed for the night

T V seems to becoming more, and more unbalanced, and not fit for children to watch. The commercials are not right either. This is all of the TV that we have. Where else can we go for TV. I have satellite TV. Why are there so many marathons? I could go on,and on. I think that TV should have more tasteful programming. They show anything that they can think of now. Are they saving money,or something? When they show a good movie, they seem to show it over, and over, and over again. BF:(:hug::hug:

you are right steve, tv should be better. we choose not to buy cable or other, we get about 11 channels which is plenty.
we really don't watch tv. We are watching the ex-files now in the evenings. we were on a lost kick for a long time , now it is the ex-files, we are on season 4 ( I think). It ran for 9 years so that is a lot left ...buying them one season at a time.

I loved the X Files. I also loved the Star Trek movies, and TNG,and Voyager TV episodes. I am starved for seeing more Star Trek, for it's been on TV all of my life, and now it's gone. I hope that they put it back on. I find that these science fiction programs of good taste to be relaxing, and gets my mind off of my worries. BF:hug::hug::hug:

TNG reruns got me through my childhood. It was my escape even then. All 177 episodes are on Netflix streaming and I watched them over a period of months. I was shocked at how much I remembered. I am currently watching a series on Netflix called Star Trek:Enterprise. The info on my Netflix guide says it was made beginning in 2001. There are 97 episodes. When I log off here I will be watching episode 12. I am enjoying it. The guy who plays the Captain is the guy from Quantum Leap (I don't remember his name). The storyline is written to where chronologically this all takes place before TNG (like in the 2100's whereas TNG was in the 2300's).

BF you are right. There is hardly anything worth watching today. We don't have cable b/c I don't want my children watching commercials - too much innuendo showing clips of sitcoms that we aren't even watching.

And I can't watch the news b/c it sends my anxiety through the roof. Even my pdoc said no news. No newspaper. If I hear or read something heinous, especially if it involved any type of abuse toward children I have a hard time getting it out of my mind. I'll think of it later that day and it will stay with me. I am amazed at people who can watch the news and hear horrible things going on in this world and then just go on with their lives. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that, just that I can't do that.

That doesn't leave very much out there. I wish there were better tv programming available, too.
