Decision-making struggle...Help!
Hello,
I am wondering if everyone struggles with making decisions PCS. Or, if my trouble is due to the area damaged. I frequently have big problems in determining what the "right thing" to do is. I don't know ~ I can't put things into proper perspective. The result is me feeling really frustrated with myself, anxious, and angry. Today's big decision is determining whether I should go to ER or not. I'm having a hard time catching my breath, my lungs are burning, dry cough, sinus headache, tiredness, (and a lapse of time in my memory ~ probably a seizure). Are these important symptoms?? I don't know. Some sound important to me, like the breathing and lungs. But, maybe I'm just blowing this out of proportion... I don't know. Edited to add: I finally got some of the issues figured out today. Thank you very much for responding! |
Making decisions is one of the most frustrating and noticeable cognitive problems I'm having right now. Sorting clothes to put away ("deciding" what goes in the closet, what goes in the drawer) is physically painful and exhausting. Today I was sorting pictures into 4 piles, my 4 year old niece could do this, and I was overwhelmed. I got it done but was shaking and my head hurt and was buzzing afterwards.
Sorry, rambling there! My point is that you are not alone on that one. I don't know any work arounds yet foe decision making but I'm hoping it will get better with time. I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. If you are really worried and these are new symptoms then it might be worth going to the E.R. if you think you can wait till morning its always nicer just to go to the doc. I'm sorry I'm not more help. I don't know anything about seizures. I just wanted to say you're not alone. I hope you're feeling better quickly. CC |
shezbut,
How are you doing? It's been a while. Have you learned to "stop to think" ? It often means you shut out all other stimuli, audio and visual. I close my eyes to start. I have had to shut off air conditioners, stereos, even ticking clocks if I am in a super sensitive mode. It sounds like you may be experiencing either an anxiety attack or some apnea events. I have found myself out of breath and trying to catch my breath. It is usually when I have been holding my breath for some unknown reason. I get stuck holding my abdominal muscles tense. This stops my breathing. I do it so much, I have added serious muscle mass to by abdomen. If you have these out of breath symptoms, check to see how your muscles feel. If they feel tired, you may have been holding your breath. If you are holding your breath, it can leave you feeling confused and without cognitive power. Hope this helps. My best to you. |
The phrase "I don't know"
I can relate to this one! My catch all phrase has been "I don't know" because truly when asked a question I don't know! It's like my brain can't decide between all the options.
Decision making is a huge part of my job as a marketing manager so I sure hope this clears up at some point before I go back to work. You're not alone! What helps me is asking my support people (husband) for their rational perspective whenever possible, for the "big" things that require decisions. The little things can wait. Or be done wrong or decided wrong, and the worst that can happen is that I'm wrong. Oh well. Hope you were able to take a course of action that you were content with. I'm trying to learn to give myself permission to just get it wrong sometimes. After all my brain is injured, how can I expect to decide everything correctly? |
