Jaw Clenching
Just curious if anyone has a problems with clenching their jaw.
I can notice it big time when I wake up, so i think a good majority of it is done during my sleep, but I sure feel it the next day. I do feel tense most days, but I have just started a medication nortriptyline so hopefully this helps with the tenseness. I notice it's alot worse the night that I take my Avonex shot. Thanks! |
Here is a link to a thread a former member made on this:
http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/sh...eeth+clenching I know you said "jaw" clenching but I think this pertains to that, too. Hope it helps! :) |
Thank you! I will check it now!

It kind of sounds like that, but i feel absolutely nothing in my teeth at all. No pressure or anything.
I'm thinking it might be my trigeminal nerve. It's right in between my ear and my eye on both sides. Feels almost like a pressure but a very aching pain, much more intense on the right side. Hurts there more when I chew etc. I did have facial and forehead numbness upon my first attacks, which my neuro said was my trigeminal nerve, tho rare said it does happen. Think it's time to call them and sort this out because this is brutal pain that comes and goes from day to day. |
i was thinking of that exact thread. the damage of clenching teeth might creep up on you. i'd check with your dentist to nip this in the bud.

I saw my dentist the other day for a regular checkup and mentioned that I'd had some spasticity, and that I was noticing that my jaw was kind of clenching a little bit. I have a crack in a tooth (no idea if it's related) and I'm going to get that fixed in a few weeks. She said she could make me a bite guard when she fixes that tooth for me.
She's actually going to finish taking out all the amalgam fillings that I have left in my mouth. She got most of them for me a few years ago before I couldn't emotionally handle any more dental work for awhile. The tooth that has a crack in it is one of those teeth, so she's going to just finish off the amalgam removal. I'm excited, I'll be rid of the nasty mercury. But, I'm also panicking because I hate going to the dentist, and having anyone drilling in my mouth triggers a panic attack for me. At least now I might have a possible reason for the latest flares. She told me that cracked tooth could potentially have some infection in it. Which might explain the last couple of flares I've had. |
I'm a jaw clencher. Mostly in my sleep. Many broken and lost
teeth to show for it and the meds deterioration. I wish I had done something sooner, to save my teeth. Don't wait!!:grouphug: |
Generally, I am not a jaw clincher. If I am stressed I tend to clinch them more. However, when I started on Celexa I had jaw clinching and pain. Once I lowered the dose to 10 mg I did much better. Take a look at your medications and see if one of them might be the culprit.
I hope you feel better. |
Thanks for the replies everyone!
Happy to say that as my dose of Nortriptyline gets higher, the pain is less and less! This is amazing as this pain has been around for over a year and very debilitating. Am gonna take your advice and see my dentist for a mouth guard for when I sleep! Again thanks for all the replies :) |
