Achy B reaky Muscle Pain.

I have been one of the lucky ones, not to have a lot of pain with my MS in the past, but that has changed. Is it the MS or is it my age (67)? Or both?

Anyway, I've been thinking this is just a temporary thing and I'll get over it with a little Asprin and a maybe a weather change. It's been kind of rainy and humid here in beautiful Ohio.

But it's hanging in there longer than the usual temporary thingy, so I may have to have something to ease my pain and stiffness. No matter what position i'm in....sitting, standing or just moving causes me pain.

Any suggestions of what would be the best med to try? I have a high threshhold for pain, so this is new to me, and I don't want to become addicted to pain meds, but to suffer needlessly is stupid.

Thanks in advance,

Advil.

Tylenol.

Repeat.
Repeat.
Repeat.

Well, anyway, that's my strategy! Two to four doses of ibuprofen and 2-4 doses of acetaminophen daily. Helps keep the achies away! Keeps me reasonably comfortable, anyway.

How long have you had the spells of achiness, and are they related to your level of activity? What does your doctor say?

I've been achy for 15 years--I honestly don't know why--and I'm finally going to see a rheumatologist next month in hopes for something better than gulping all those pills.

Hope you feel better soon, Sally. Take care.

I'm sorry that you have been suffering from this for so long, Nancy...that stinks.. I thought of Arthritis setting in too, because of my age, but it's been so sudden. It didnt just creep up on me. It went boom.

I do the asprin thing and that works temporarily. I hate to take too much of it, because I'm afraid it will stop working and I will just have to increase it and too much asprin can be a bad thing for the stomach.

I guess I was asking the experts here if there was anything safer and more effective. I apologise for complaining to you guys...Just shoot me..

So sorry you've joined the "Pain Club" Sally. I know what you mean about the different possibilities -- age???? NAH!! 60's are still "spring chickens" these days!!!! Having lived with fibromyalgia for around 12 years, I know pain. After trying narcotics, NSAIDS, etc., etc., etc., I've found 2 Aleve every 12 hours works as good as anything with maybe a couple Tylenol on extra bad days. Seems like all of them just take the edge off.

Weather plays a big part with me, change of seasons, hot, humid, rainy, cold, damp -- the past couple days have been beautiful but for some reason my pain level has been through the roof.

Ain't life fun???!!!

Hope you find something that works for you.

Thanks Judy.:) I completely forgot about Aleve. I had to take that when I was have so much tooth pain and it was great. I will try that and let you know how it goes.

I can usually take pain but when it gets constant, I can't take that. It makes me mean and snippy. I hate that in a person, especially me..:D

Thanks again and I hope your pain subsides.

Sally
If tylenol doesn't work, I use aleve cuz I can't tolerate ibuprofen, and aspirin makes my ears ring.

Constant pain in my hands for 6 months now. Docs can't find a reason besides MS. I get so crabby and lash out at SO. When I do that I know it is time for 1/2 a vicadin. Only 1/2 cuz a whole doubles the nausea but not the pain relief. How unfair is that!

Hope you get some relief from the Aleve.
Beth

Thanks Beth.:) I hear you on the vicodin...I can't take it..makes me sick as a dog.

So sorry for the pain in your hands. I hope it gets better.

Oh Sal, what a drag. Can you handle the tub at all or do you have or know someone with a big tub? Sometimes when the pain is unrelenting, I get in a soak of tepid water and try to take the gravity off my body. It does help me.

I hate vicoden too, so I'm not a pusher (of that). Sorry you're suffering, it's just no good.

Hi Sally:

Sorry about the pain. Having had 10 years of it, my first dose of Baclofen meant that I slept for the first night in years. I woke the next morning, got up and made a coffee and my eyes welled with tears I was so grateful for the relief.

JMO but is it possible you are having spasticity? Maybe your neuro should be involved just in case...

Incidently I read this week that age 70 is now the old age 50. I have 70 something friends that can run circles around me. :thud:

Oh Goody, I have 3 more years before I'm 50..:Head-Spin:

My Mother, in her late 70s, could out run me, in my early 50s.

Yes, Cricket, it is spasticity along with it, but I've always had mild spasticity with which to deal. I've just not had all this pain. I am calling my Doc today to see what he says.

Thanks All,
