Newbie

Hello! I am new here, hope you are all doing well today. I have previously been dx's with lyme, diabetes 2, trigeminal neuralgia. I have been having problems with dizziness, foggy memory, headaches and pain overall. I also have trouble swallowing food at times.

My neurologist ordered new tests, I still have some lyme bands and past and present Epstein Barr Virus. But I also saw on the paraneoplastic panel two things that look bad. It was abnormal for Striational Muscle and also the calcium channel N-Type was high.

I think I may have Myastenia Gravis and/or Lems. Possible cancer? Has anyone else had those two come up in the test, I see the doctor tomorrow and am pretty scared.

Thank you!

I don't know what to say about your tests, but I will say that you are welcome here. Let us know how things come out at the doctor.

Thank you, I will let you all know what he says, I've been going nuts just looking everywhere online about it

Hi, Tigerbear! Welcome.

Don't be scared! Or at least try not to be. ;)

Yes, LEMS does come with a caner risk, but if you have cancer and it's caught early, the remission rate is high.

It sounds as though you have a doctor who was smart enough to order those tests, so that's good. MG and LEMS can be managed with meds, etc., so that's good, too.

It sucks to be staring down another disease, but it's best to know what you're dealing with. How can you "beat it" otherwise?

You might want to ask your internist to also do other basic testing such as thyroid, B12, Vit. D, erythrocyte sedimentation rate or C-reactive protein, or a metabolic panel. Since you already have more than one thing going on, they shouldn't assume that new symptoms relate to any other condition.

I hope your appointment goes well! Make sure that you have all of your questions answered, or make another appt. to have them answered! You might think up more after your appt. tomorrow.

Hang in there. There are other people here who have LEMS, so that will be a big help if you have it. It might be something else, given that you're experiencing pain. MG and LEMS usually aren't associated with pain. We can have secondary pain from weak muscles cramping up, etc., though.

Let us know how it goes! Good luck tomorrow!

Annie

Thank you so much Annie, I do have Hashimotos, I forgot to write that down, my vitamin D levels are always low even though I take supplements, and my B-12 levels were too high.

Welcome to the forum. This is a great place to learn about MG. Here is a primer on Myasthenia Gravis from the Medical News Today Knowledge Center:

After your read this primer, you will know more about MG than most doctors.

Thank you Mark! Since I had the calcium channel Type N show up, I'm afraid I have Lems. I was a smoker up until 20 years ago (I'm 51) so lung cancer is possible, especially with the type n showing, and I'm the soul support of my family. I've missed a lot of work lately and I am just so sad. I am so thankful there is a forum here for this with nice people

Another way to put that is that you found the strength to quit smoking 20 years ago. You were young at the time, allowing your body time to heal from the smoking. That one decision to quit smoking 20 years ago, puts you into a much stronger position to deal with your health issues today.

I know this from personal experience. I started smoking when I was in high school. I was 17 years old. I was soon smoking 2 packs a day. When I was 35 years old, after taking a biology course at a community college, I realized that I had to quit. That was 1986, about 28 years ago.

I had a recent MG crisis that put me into the hospital for 6 days. Can you imaging how much more difficult that crises would have been had I continued to smoke for the last 28 years?
