Stop hovering, Windows 8

I just got a new notebook and, horror or horrors, it's got Windows 8. Yuck! It makes me nostalgic for VISTA.

Anyway, my big problem is that I can't stop the cursor from opening, automatically, anything it touches.

I went into setting and it says this function is off. Liar, liar, pixels on fire.

Following the advice on one site. I actually enabled the hovering, restarted my computer and then disabled it. Didn't work for me.

I checked on Microsoft support, but, even before my TBI, I wouldn't have been able to make heads or tails of the multi-paragraph response (couldn't really call it an answer) written in techno babble.

I understand that this is a fairly common bug in Windows 8. Has anyone else had to deal with this? Can someone explain to me (and I mean really, really, really dumb it down :Hum:) how to fix this?

As I have very limited dexterity in my hands, my cursor flies all over the place, so this is more than a minor nuisance.

Thanks!

There is a free download to 8.1 for computers but I don't know if notebooks qualify. That is supposed to help with all the 8 frustrations.

Hubby just read that 8 and 8.1 are being surpassed by new Windows programs, that will be like the "older" versions.

When we bought this new computer we got the 7... whew!

I'd try the update first and any reboot if needed.. then if still a problem..- try some of these??

a. Press Windows key + Q to open the search box.

b. Now Click Settings and then type Folder options.

c. Now click the Folder options from the search result.

d. Under General tab select the "Double-click to open an item" option.

e. Click Apply and Ok.] ??

I think this worked! When I checked the Folder Options, it said that it was already set to "Double Click." I restored it to default, then put it back to Double Click, and the hovering appears to have stopped. YEAH!

Bless you!!!!!!!
