Scalp burning after concussion

Hi there, I'm brand new to the forum. I hit my forehead on another person's head almost 3 weeks ago now. It wasn't a massive hit but I really felt it shake me up inside. No loss of consciousness but I immediately developed a headache. I am in my mid 20s. The headache, dizziness, and nausea kept worsening so bad over the next week, i had 2 CT scans and spinal tap done at ER and all came back normal. I've been stuck in bed most of the time, walking brings on the worst and strangest headaches and otc or rx meds just barely take the edge off. Now the top of my head is very tender and few times a day I get horrible burning sensation on the top and back of my head. Sometimes it even feels like it's in the back of my mouth. It is very scary and painful. I have not found much info about this, has anyone else had this symptom?

Hello GardenShedding,

Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

I'm sorry you've injured yourself so badly. I would have to wonder if those sensations are part of the headache you've been experiencing.

Migraine headaches have a sensory component and as far as I am aware, migraines can be triggered by a head injury.

What did the doctor suggest for your headaches?

btw there is something called occipital neuralgia but the pain as far as I know is usually at the back of the head or around eyes. I don't know much about ON.

I went to our Occipital Neuralgia forum and found a definition from NINDS
http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/o...lneuralgia.htm

Of course, it may not be this at all, but just wanted to post the info.

Welcome GardenShedding. :Wave-Hello:

Thank you, Lara. The doctors so far have told me to just take tylenol or norco for the headache and that they will likely go away with time, but the burning pain has started this last week. I have an appt tomorrow to discuss that and maybe get a neuro referral.

So I read a bit about occipital neuralgia, I wonder if my concussion could've set it off even though it was my forehead I hit. Last night my head was on fire so much I couldn't even lay down or touch it. No meds helped. I hope this is not a sign of an emergency situation about to happen..

Oh thats good to know. About how long did you have this symptom for?

injuredbutrecoverin 01-08-2015 06:41 PM

maybe 2-3 months; just to be clear though i don't know if what you have is the exact thing i had. it sounds like yours is more wide-spread. mine was at a particular point on top of my head
