Hi Jen,
Right before I have a cp sz. I always see different colors flashing back and for from one eye to the other and then I get a nervous feeling in my stomach this is all part of a simple partial sz. (aura sz.) which leads into a cp sz. It happens to me only when I'm awake. The colors you are seeing are coming from the back of your head where your eyesight is. opptical lobe. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You! Sue |
I get a light aura in color before a CP seizure also, not to be
confused with the flashing white lights of the migraines. For me, I see it with both eyes, closed or opened - whether I am awake or asleep, and it happens in a split second. To me, mine occurs in a round tiny light usually on the upper right side usually blue or green, and as the Tech and Doc had told me comes from the occipital region of the brain (from the back of your head) and then it triggers to the Temporal Lobe region which fires off seizures. Sometimes I would just get one aura, sometimes I would get one after another after another between a span of a time. No reason why for this, it just happens. It drives me up the wall. However, sometimes I don't get any seizures at all, just the aura. |
Sharon And Sue, let me get this strait tho,
i only get this in the dark, and yes it is for only a second,i'll be sound asleep, then will wake in kind of a shocked manner, like when you have a nightmare, and see this eclips just before or after opening my eye lids, also notice when i turn over fast in be from one side to the other, i flop my head and BANG! its there for only a second, in fact i can cough in the dark (sometimes and it a Happens) , is this what you mean, cause if so , i should tell my neuro about it when i see her. also, i get purple rods, where ever i look, if i change the angle of where i look the rods follow. sitting in the sun, i felt like realy strange, ive never had this before , every thing white became to white, and all the colours seemed dull, almost yellow. then i felt myself sinking into my self, i knew i was in controll, as i was taking to my husband at the time, but my enviroment felt very strange as if in a cartoon or very insular. i so hope some one can make sense of what i'm saying as this is all getting tooo frietning for me , as my body was working like normal, but i didnt feel i was in control of what it was doing. sounds very weird i know. nearly made me want to thro up! my legs nearly went to jelly, like i couldnt walk, but its wasnt like fainting you see. my hand whent tingly and felt numb for days. REALY! the past month its all been getting worse and i feel like i'm going to lose the plot. thanks so much . |
Sorry Sharon , what is a CP

Hi Jen,
What you are discribing sounds exactly like an aura sz. and I would report it to your neuro. The brain is the most active when we are asleep and there have been times when I have come out of a cp sz. (complex partial) when I've been sound asleep and then it wakes me up. Some people are photosensitive which means certain colors can cause sz. for some people. You might want to ask your epi to do a special e.e.g. on you the next time you have one done where they will flash different color strobe lights one at a time to see what colors if any bother you and can trigger a sz. I had this done and I found out bright white like when the sun is shining on the snow, florescent green and amber were the 3 main colors that triggered sz. for me. If you're interested check out this web page for more info. http://www.neuropat.dote.hu/neurology.htm when the main page comes up click on epilepsy and you will find a lot of info. about different forms of sz. AEDs, and medical treatments for E. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You! Sue |

CP - Complex Partial It's an abbreviation - Sorry about that. But like Sue posted above, alert your Neurologist, and it would be a wonderful idea if you would write everything you are experiencing down in a notebook, so you can show it to your Neurologist. |

I've had many photo & strobe EEG's done, but never a colorized one. I just tried to do a research for a name for one. But I know this one thing - Fluorescent Lights are a nightmare to me, especially if the ballasts are going bad or the lights are going bad and they really begin to flicker. That's why I wear sunglasses on my head all the time, even at nights. Those things will either provoke a Migraine or Seizure or even worse, a Migralepsy. :( I've learned to look away or shut my eyes or look downwards if those things begins to fire off. Strobe Lights on the other hand ... is really weird with me, sometimes it won't do anything, and sometimes it causes me to tremble up where I beg them to turn it off, to a point where I'm almost in tears. And within an hour or so, I get this huge massive headache ... like what happened when I had my EEG last Friday ... But I never had any colorized light EEG  |

Hi Sharon, I'm no Dr. but it sounds like you may be photosensitive like I am. The name of the e.e.g. is a photosensitive e.e.g. my epi ordered one done a few yrs. ago when I told him how strobe lights were causing sz. for me and florescent green was the worst color to trigger sz. Before I started having any sz. I started having migraine headaches then the sz. started about one yr. later. If you use a cell phone take note if it bothers you and causes migraines or sz. because the frequency your in using cell phones can bother some people like lights can. One thing I noticed is since I had my brain surgery the colors don't bother me as much as they used to. Here's wishing you well and May God Bless You! Sue |

sensitive all my life though. Maybe that's why I don't get that many photo/strobe EEG tests which are often skipped on me. However they (Doctors) are fully aware of my light sensitivity, and I've been classified as "Acute Classic Migraine" - so I know the difference between seizures and migraines - but I hate them when it's both together. Thanks for the explanation! Would have never known! |
