Muscles don't relax? Stay cramped?
I have no idea what this is because I haven't seen anybody mention it.
If I contract my muscles really hard, they stay contracted for a few seconds And then slowly relax ( it feels like balloons are deflating inside my legs). Then those muscles will twitch like crazy for 5-10 minutes before going back to baseline twitching. What is this a sign of? Anybody have this? I'm taking mg and using the Epsom lotion and nothing seems to help |
This happens mostly after a period of rest ex, soon after waking .
(Up to about 1-45 min after waking up) . This didn't happen until I received acupuncture (when I think I obtained large fiber damage) |
Nobody has this symptom? I feel so alone in my twitching and vibrating.... Every second of everyday everything is shaking/ vibrating and twitching. It feels like every inch of my skin has had vibrators implanted and they r on 24/7.

I have rigid muscles that never really loosen. When I do get relief and it ratchets back up, it feels like a knot being tightened slowly.
I can flex my calf muscles and only some move, as there is no more contraction for the muscle to do. Yours sounds different, but my muscles- legs and arms- are always "on" |
Same Here
canagirl,
I have the same muscle problems that you describe. So, no, you are not alone. Just recently have decided to give up on ever getting any help or relief after 16 years of trying. :( I just can't try to explain this to another doctor. They just don't realize how bad it gets. Post back here if you ever find a solution. |

The muscles in my thoracic region will contract on their own and STAY that way with the pulling tightness that just won't let go. It is constant and unrelenting. When this happens, it means a trip to my pain mgt. doc as it will last for weeks unless medical attention is sought. Now, to your actual post which is different than what I expected from the thread title. Are you purposefully contracting the muscle and if so, why so "hard" as you describe? What are you attempting to accomplish with this action? That made me think of the trick I was taught as a young child where you press your arm (at the wrist area) hard against a wall for a few minutes and then step away from the wall. Your arm will lift into the air all on its own like some magical trick. I just don't understand your post. I don't understand why you are contracting your muscles hard and then are surprised they twitch afterward. (until the twitching comes down to baseline twitching). If you are experiencing baseline twitching constantly, that I have read in several of your posts, why are you purposefully taking actions that will cause the twitching to intensify? I am sorry, I guess I have missed the boat and just don't understand your post. Please forgive me lack of understanding. |

A few months ago I woke up and felt really tight so I did a big stretch ( stiffened my arms and legs to stretch, Like s typical one time stretch people do when they wake up) My legs didn't relax, they stayed contracted then "deflated " like balloons and went crazy on the twitching. I don't like to know how bad things are for me so I try to not do anything that aggravates my condition but every once in a while I do this stretch when I wake up without thinking (done this my whole life so sometimes I do it out of habit). I've done it two days in a row now and it's just been on my mind. I should have been more clear and stated that I don't go around doing this on purpose. |
I developed a problem with muscle cramping last month. I'm getting cramps in lower leg and foot muscles I've never had problems with before. They're triggered by stretching. And yes, after I get them, I seem to twitch more than normal before they settle back down.

I don't have the twitching, but if I hold onto anything with my hands for more than a minute (like a grocery bag or even a hairbrush) my muscles get stuck in that position and I have to wait for them to relax. I thought I was the only one.

This sounds similar to Charlie horses maybe. I get cramps and spastic muscles all the time, and yes, twitching.
I just saw my neuro yesterday. I have small fiber neuropathy only, and he said these symptoms are very common in small fiber neuropathy, because the tiny sensory nerves misfiring irritate the surrounding tissues. He also said that without even realizing it, I am probably just more tense in my muscles due to increased pain and discomfort, and this consistent but low-end tension can lead to things like cramping and twitching, since you're never truly very relaxed. Cramping and twitching is also very common with stress and increased anxiety, and mine, even though it is always there daily even if on a lower level, is much worse when I am really stressed, really anxious, or really tired. Just some stuff to think about. |
