Quick note . . . :
At a recent neurology conference, a discussion was dedicated to optoelectronic interfaces to the brain; was very impression and pausibly not very far from practicle applications. Until recently these interfaces tended to produce quite a lot of heat but shrinking size and lower duties cycle frequencies may lead to practicle human 'implants.'

Another speaker at the conference indicated spinal MRI may show inflamation in individuals with ALS . . . .
