Big shopping OOPS

I HAD lost 60 pounds and gave away all my sizes from 22 to 16. Theeeeen I started putting it back on. I got complacent about my diet. So I had no spring clothes to fit me. My favorite store Christopher and Banks had their annual 40% off sale this weekend. Well it's next week but reward card shoppers got a preview shopping weekend. As I checked out before my discount it was over $500!!!!!:eek::eek:After all discounts it was $376. Still that is a lot of money for me. I better change my eating habits because that hurt to pay that. But on the flip side a clothing bank got a lot of clothes to give away.

The place was packed. I spent over an hour in line. But all of us ladies were in the same predicament and got to know each other.

I've been noticing how the price of clothes has been skyrocketing over the last 15 years or so. A pair of pants that cost $10 maybe 20 years ago is now over $60. I can't imagine paying that much for one pair of pants and so wait till they're marked down.

You can pay a small fortune just buying underwear.

I bought underwear on sale the last time I was physically in a WalMart. I still have two packages of 8 that I haven't even opened yet. (I have a month and a half's worth of undies in my dresser that I actively wear)

Hopefully I'll get to use them before I outgrow the ones still in the packages.

It's been a couple of years since I was last in a WalMart.

I have neighbors who have a large stockpile of clothes so they won't have to do laundry so often.

I have a small stockpile of clothes because I prefer doing laundry to having large numbers of things and not many places to put them.

If I had a lot of storage space, I'd probably have a large supply of clothes too.

I cleaned out my closet last summer. It now pretty much only has sweatpants, and t-shirts in it. I kept a dress or two that I used to wear, but I'm never going to wear them again. (they don't fit). I kept the dresses for sentimental reasons.

I have jeans, but I don't wear them.

The clothes I cleaned out. They're in a big bucket in the other room. Waiting for me to get up the energy to schlep them out to Goodwill. I need to get on that soon.

My closet is a little cleaner. I had it remodeled to give me storage space for my yarn, and my stash of over 50 t-shirts. It's mostly yarn in there now.

I look at Women Within Catalog a lot, looking at nice clothes, but I see no point in buying any for myself. No one to get dressed up for. I don't really go many places, except out to eat. At least I still comb my hair every day. I just don't see the point in getting dressed up, or going shopping for nice stuff that's not going to be comfortable. (and since I can't exercise much. I'm probably going to grow out of it)

I buy my mom a lot of nice clothes for presents from those catalogs tho.

I haven't dressed up for anything in a long time. I have a few clothes that are nice enough to be reserved for dressy occasions but even they aren't most people's idea of dressy.

Fussing with clothes is difficult. "Accessorizing" is difficult. Clothes that need dry cleaning are difficult.

I don't wear jewelry any more because tinkering with tiny hooks and clasps is difficult. An earring would fall off my ear and I wouldn't notice it. Jewelry seems to weigh me down--it's not comfortable to wear it.

I try to go easy on myself. People often dress up because they think it's expected. I believe in making an exception for myself on the grounds of MS.

We're special people. We have a neurological disorder that does strange unexpected things to us, and we're stuck with that disorder. We deserve some special accommodations even if we have to create them for ourselves.

Giving up on dressy clothes unless they're comfortable and easy to care for is one way I've been easy on myself.

Erin, I've started developing a yarn stash again too. I gave away all my yarn years ago but took up crocheting again about a year ago, and a couple of balls of yarn have turned into a couple of bags filled with them.

My wardrobe consists of a small assortment of lights and dark grey and a pair of black dress pants that I wear to church and occasional funeral. Ever since I reached my 60's I am cool enough that I wear sweater sets to church. That is basically my wardrobe for church. I do love my coordinating costume jewelry long necklaces since I can't do latches on short necklaces and costume jewelry rings. For any other needs I am in my jeans and shirts like Old navy flag t shirts. If people don't like it, then they don't like me.

I see lovely coordinating pants and tops on women in church or while I am out. I try them on and I feel they look terrible on me. Would i like to wear them, yes. But I hate my thighs so I don't wear nice clothes.

I swear that yarn secretly multiplies, kind of like bunnies if you put it away for later, and come back to it (when you're putting more yarn away in your storage space).

My hands have been varying degrees of numb, and annoying for the past year. And I have been having issues with fatigue, so I had kind of dropped out of crocheting, and knitting for awhile. I'm starting to get back into it, mostly because I'm going out of my mind not having anything to do. I might have to put the knitting needles away, because I fall asleep every time I sit down. The needles slide out of the work, and I just don't have the patience to try to put it back correctly.

Crocheting is much easier to deal with when you drop the hook. You just pick it, and go about your way through your project. Currently I have an afghan that's waiting for Walmart to send me more yarn. I ordered April 13, and I still don't have it yet. I got my sweatpants and the 3pack of deodorant for my mom (today!) and I'm still waiting for them to actually put the rest of my yarn in the mail.

I got an email today saying a skein had been sent, but it's not the color for the afghan. I'm hoping it's the color for my pineapple shawl that I'm making. (if it's not, it won't go to waste. It's a one-pound skein of yarn). The yarn for the afghan still says "Processing" next to it on my Walmart account.

Amazon spoiled me for the near instant gratification for stuff.

At least I have my fresh sweatpants, and my mom can stop complaining about the deodorant I ordered her. (I'd expected it to come earlier). The store is always out of her brand whenever I take her to buy more.

My mom needs a new bra, and I'm kind of thinking of ordering a couple too. If I can manage to figure out how to measure myself, I might be getting the Women Within catalogs out, and hoping I get things that fit. That's the drawback for online shopping for clothes. Trying to get a bra that fits. Last time I tried it, and it didn't fit me. I didn't feel like mailing it back. So I donated it (tags still attached) to Goodwill. I'm sure someone probably loved getting a brand new bra that no one had ever worn before.

I miss wearing jewelry. I had several nice necklaces but the clasps were too hard to work. Same thing with bracelets. I got a few of the elastic slip-on kind but it seems just the feeling of the jewelry on my arm is bothersome. I do still wear earrings. But they can't be too dangly.....anything swinging near my face immediately makes me dizzy. So most of mine are hoops. 2" diameter is the largest I can wear.

Sandals and strappy shoes are the next things I miss. There is NO WAY I could wear them now. Sketchers slipons are all I wear now.

But.....I think I've finally gotten to the point of not caring what others think of what I wear. I try to look presentable if I'm going out even if it's just to the doctor or riding along with DIL to sit in the car with the babies while she runs errands. I can still hear my mother......"what if you run into someone you know or, heaven forbid, get in an accident? You want to at least have on clean clothes.";) Thanks, Mom! :)

Kitty, try the necklaces that are long enough to just slip over your head, no fuss no muss. I got so many of them that I was running out of room on my expandable, telescoping jewelry tree. I have really been wanting a mirror jewelry armoire. I found one on Amazon that claimed to be a new but damaged one. I love the pictures that you can zoom in and see if there is actually room for long necklaces. Most of the ones I looked at had lots of room for bracelets and earrings but not lots of room for long necklaces. Finally found one that I liked and ordered it. Told my husband he was off the hook. I had ordered my christmas present. This was last December. I wish it was an oval stand up mirror but beggars can't be choosers. Was so easy to put together except for the fact that neither hubbie and i have the strength we used to have. It works just perfectly and I now have even extra room for some new ones if I get them.
