Can rsd follow an episode of superficial phlebitis? Can it occur due to herniated discs, radiculopathy, polyneuropathy? My left leg from the ankle to mid calf is so painful, a deep burning relentless pain, dark red in color, hardened, numb, dry skin, swelling of ankle/leg. Clothing against it is painfull, nothing relieves the pain, it burns constantly. I am concerned that any doctor I have seen for back problems etc. don't even address it. My neuro had me follow up with family doc for venous changes (said it looked as if an ulcer might be forming) my doc said "i don't think this is anything cardiac. When I looked at the symptoms of rsd they seem to fit. Now my left hip has begun to be very painfull and I am having increased diff walking. Does this sound like rsd and how do I get a doc to consider this as a possibility? Thanks for any input

Hi and Welcome to Neuro Talk. Have you seen our RSD forum? Sorry to hear you are having so much pain.
I am glad you found us and hang in there, OK? :welcome_sign: |
Welcome,
I am sorry to hear about the pain you are suffering. We have some very knowledgeable folks in the RSD forum. Below is a link for it. I think your best best would be to contact a pain doctor, one that specializes in RSD. Pain docs or neuro's that specialize in pain control might also be able to help At the top of the RSD forum there is a sticky that has numerous sites on RSD. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum21.html :hug: |
[COLOR="Purple"]Hi,
Yes ma'am you can get RSD from anything, even the most superficial of things. Given your symptoms it does appear that the possibility of RSD is very strong. What you want to do is go to your doctor, let him know of ALL that is going on with you and ask him/her if they are familiar with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, if they are not, see if they can refer you to a pain management doctor who is. It is VERY important to have a doctor who is familiar with RSD and can HELP you cope with it. Never settle for a doctor who doesn't know anything or not much about RSD just because you "like" them....you are only hurting yourself when you do that. If your doctor does not know anyone who is familiar with RSD, let your fingers do some walking, do NOT sacrifice yourself!! Keep your mind strong and remember, with RSD the pain is not real it is REAL!!!! So if your mind isn't strong enough to handle it you will become depressed quickly and be mad at the world. Take some time daily to just sit in silence and breathe deep with your eyes closed and try best you can to relax, I know it is one of the hardest things you will do right now, but you have to convince yourself that you WILL make it through this. I hope this helps you out some, and please keep us posted on the outcome, and how you are doing as well. Love, Peace & Blessings, Marla RSD Coach TM |
Marla, you are correct. I have an appt with a Psychologist to assess and treat my depression which was just recently diagnosed by my neuro, the appt is late feb. My left leg has such an intense burning pain that it is completely overshadowing my radiculopathy and sciatic pain. It is difficult to explain the pain to family so that they can begin to understand. It is hard to wear pants or anything that touches the area. Thanks for the info

I know exactly how you feel. I felt the same why when I first tried to explain it to my family, and I still have problems trying to find the "common" things to compare the this "uncommon" feeling. It can drive you crazy sometimes. It's a good thing you have an appointment with a Psychologist, mine has been a tremendous help and I would have never made it as far as I have without him. Being an RSD Coach TM was a very important thing I wanted to do and he was my main supporter and helped me with my research as well as my studies for being a coach.
Be sure to let us know how it goes with him, and if you need anything, please feel free to contact me anytime. My contact info is in my profile....until I get 10 posts on here I can't put a link, but it's all on my profile. Keep your mind strong girl, remember to breathe!! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Peace & Blessings, Marla RSD Coach TM |
