Help! Diet for Chewie
 

Chewie needs to be on very digestible foods and he will not eat the AD prescription food and he hasn't eaten since I took him home yesterday afternoon.

I called Doc and he said, "Well, feed him something else!"

ROFL, okay. I got the impression that he had to eat that food.

Any suggestions for tempting food for chewie that is easily digestible????

Try googling dogfood recipes maybe? I think there's probably one made with chicken and rice and some other ingredients. I know there's one for cats. Good luck with Chewie!

soft boiled egg..or scrambled egg......when Alex was healing from his stomach surgery...he would eat that....I had to hand feed him a few bites, then he finished on his own...:winky: I also kept a electric heating pad on low in his crate, which was covered with a blanket on three sides to keep him out of any drafts.....good luck...we're with ya!

Ms. Alffe, I bought a few different kinds of baby food at lunchtime. Several different cat foods. He didn't want anything to do with any of them except the one thing I know he likes.... the soupy 'gravy' that comes in canned cat food that has flakes or bites of food in it. BUT he has never liked the food part, just the soupy gravy.

When I got there at lunch, he vomited a lot of really deep golden yellow bile. :(

and he's never been a scrap eater. Not even yummy pieces of chicken. He just isn't interested in what I eat. also found out that he ate on his own one time at doc's, the restof the time they force fed him.

Doody, do you have any buolion cubes? You can make some and put it on some cat food. Or gravy mix packages? Or the undiluted broth from soup.

He might be nervous, even though he is at home.

When our cat was so sick with those drainage tubes, she would only accept human tuna in water. Mostly the water satisfied her.
She really lived off her fat--she was big like Chewy.

I left little bits of tuna in the water.. so she would get the protein. But she wouldn't take solids much.

My 21 yr old cat gets a shredded real cooked shrimp daily. After starting her on this, is when she became the longevity cat. Our vet expected her death 4 yrs ago!.

Some cats like chicken... you could mash chicken up and liquify it in water.

For a short time, the taurine issue most likely would not be serious. But some cat food eventually is needed because cats need taurine (it is in commercial foods). Taurine comes in capsules for people and you could use this eventually.

If he is sluggish (that narcotic pain shot is very sedating) keep his bed area, water/food and litter box all in one spot where he can get at it with little effort on his part.

Is he purring alot? Purring alot means pain, and sometimes helps them heal.

I was just a kid when this happened to our poor cat. We had just moved into this house
(a family home) and could let our cats outside for the first time. Pepper got attacked on our porch. I felt so bad because we didn't know it happened. The surgery was over $300 back in the 70's and I just indulged her when she came home. Back then there was no Science Diet, fixey pain shots, or fixey antibiotics. I guess it was a miracle she survived.
But I was like a nurse 24/7 for a month when she came home!

I talked to doc's assistant awhile ago, and she said any kind of solid is out of the question, even scrambled eggs, because of all the incisions in his intestines.

Whatever I get, I'll have to liquefy for sure.

I'll try most anything at this point!

Have to stop at the store again tonight on my way home I guess. I wonder what they use to make that gravy in the canned cat foods so 'gelatine' like.

I think I've tried tuna on him in the past and he wanted nothing to do with it.

But the doc was adamant that his food needs to be more on the liquid side.
