apparent death of braintalk 1
I checked out the braintalk registration through register.com and it shows that the name is registered through 2007 yet no new work has been done to fix this unbelivable collapse. I did read another site from JL that where he spoke of working for a new group and made no reference to the braintalk forums. My understanding of braintalk was that it was a project of JL's but not his main responsiblity. I gleamed this from the 6years I have used the forums
Personally I expected better of board being sponsored out of Havard. It would appear that after JL pulled up tent stakes and went off to a new company either they let it go or it was such a fubar of a techinical collapse they just let it die. as most of us do I remain hopeful that the site will be saved if only to preserve the weath of shared medical advice we put there. I was mostly on the hydro forum but hadnt be as active recently. I did chose a new name purely because I had some run-ins with identity theft and I am moving to more annonymous names. (not to worry never seemd to come from the braintalk memebers.) Hope this info is of some help..in the future I will likely be on hydro and chronic pain (Yeah!!--um not). see you on the boards...and thankyou to the mysterious Doc John. |
Just FYI -- the original BrainTalk (OBT) hasn't been hosted by Massachusetts General Hospital in quite awhile.
John Lester took the project away from the hospital and created a non-profit organization to run BrainTalk. It was sometime later when he took the new position. Everybody's been wondering what's up with OBT. No one knows. JL was supposed to start re-building the OBT servers on September 5, 2006. Since John lost his Dad not that long ago and his new company had a serious virus attack recently, I am going on the assumption that John Lester suffers from over-commitment, exhaustion, and burn-out -- until I hear otherwise. This new place (which is currently working out a new name) is very different, very supportive. There are archives out there that, hopefully, we will be able to recover some/all of the history on the OBT if it does not come back. Instead of wondering what's going in the house down the street with the lights out, join the party here http://smilies.sofrayt.com/%5E/i/partytime.gif Trust me, you'll like it :D |
confusing...
It sure is confusing about domain names!
I found this on Whois.... Quote:

Hi Mrs.D,
What's confusing? John registered the domain name for braintalk.org in 2000, when he worked for MGH (which is why his email address is listed as the old harvard one). The domain name needs to be re-registered when it expires in 2007. Not sure what's confusing. |
WmM3,
Why do you think DocJohn is mysterious? He's really been an open book here about his motives to help a bunch of stranded BT users. His picture and his bio are easily available. He even found it amusing when posters photochopped his picture in various hilarious states. :D He's here a lot to participate. If you're concerned about something, just check out his info he's posted so far or ask him a question... he's been VERY straightforward, honest and forthright in all the discussions, questions, and yes, even the suspicions that have been posted about him. :) |
the url www.braintalk.org hasn't worked in a very long time. It redirects to
http://www.d-na.com/serviceinterruption/ and has been doing that for a very long time... more than a few months. There were lots of messages about that earlier in the year. Not sure if they were on FF or Computers and Technology. ZS might recall. |
p.s. AFAIK netwide.net went out of business.
