finally accepted an issue long over do
Today i used a electric chair provided by the local grocery store, am sure it would make a bigger difference if I didnt hurt so dang much,(yes i know many of you have told me to use it a while back, sorry i didnt listen) I did last longer at the store shopping, so that fact is good.
I am posting this for one reason, in case anyone else is hesitating like I did for so long, do not hesitate anymore, no one stared at me or made a comment. one rude worker did step right in front of me while i was moving, i did say excuse me and he replied its ok, at which point i informed him i was being sarcastic cause he didnt look where he was going, and then someone who looked like management immediately pulled him to the side and talked to him and he came right back to me and apologized, using the chair did make it easier, just guess i had a bigger stigma about chairs then the real world, so dont walk when you dont have to, it wont help, the chair worked great, a little tough getting in and out, and i did have Deb with me to reach the higher items, i can see me being able to shop on my own, matter of fact a few people offer to get an item or two for me when i was trying to reach for it, so dont be like me and let your own thinking mess with you, should of done this over a couple months ago, maybe i wouldnt hurt as much:Bang-Head: peace love and free valiums to all parents |
Thank you for sharing your story. I'm glad your shopping went a bit easier. Next time just run down the rude employee! ;)

My mom uses the electric scooters (when they actually work or have a charge on them) and she's waaaaay too polite in my opinion.
People just leap in front of her sometimes, ram the shopping carts into the scooters, and are just basically jerks to her when she's on the scooter. (I've noticed people do this to other customers in the scooters too) My mom practically falls over herself apologizing for being in their way. If it were me, and a rude person stepped in front of the scooter, making me have to stop fast. I'd just run into them. They can see the scooter, yet they still walk in front of them. If they get whacked or "rear ended" by a scooter, that's probably going to be mostly their fault for thinking that scooters can stop on a dime. (most of the scooters my mom has used in the store, keep going for a few feet once you take your thumb off the control) I've never had to use a scooter, but when I see people having to use them, I try to be respectful of them and not make the people in them sit there and wait while I try to choose what flavor Pop-Tarts to buy. |
my mom is an ankle clipper with those things.
I do use them when I am beat, and need to get my errands done. Most stores are now ramping them down so they are super slow and are not this zippy fun toy that so many were hogging to just have fun on in the past. My sister used to zip around on them crying something about not feeling well...blah blah...while we saw people truly limping, and dragging and needed the chair. Now that its super slow she wont bother. |
I'm proud of ya, Frank.
I year ago I used scooters in stores because of a broken ankle. They were plenty slow, then...I don't know how much slower they could go. I couldn'nt even catch my lil 1.5 yo granddtr and she wasn't running, just walking! I remember being invisible on one occasion. I had a question and waited about a minute for a store employee to finish talking with a customer. I thought I made eye contact, but she walked right off after the conversation. Grrrr!!! I know one thing for sure: you can't get the darned things through the "S" curve at a WalMart into the bathroom! That's when DH took me to Wendy's and I had a crash in the bathroom stall into the toilet and broke my ribs. Now That's what you call Adding Insult to Injury! Good luck to you Frank! |
i put it off too until one day i had to try it and never looked back.
it's like having your handicapped placard but you don't want to use it. it's all about saving energy so we can do other things that day. |
I hate that the grocery electric carts beep when backing up. Reminds me of a semi truck. Watch out! Wide load!
People are ALWAYS super polite to me, though. I am not happy to be in the position of having to use one but I am glad they exist. Especially in Costco! |
Very timely post, Frank, thanks. We made the trip to Walmart this morning, and (of course) I did NOT use the motorized cart. I always say next time I'm going to, then I never do, then I wish I had.
Next time I go to Walmart, I'll walk right in that store thinking "Frank...Frank...Frank..." |
I've used them a time or two when I really needed to. However, I have found that they really aren't that comfortable but they do save my energy.
