It's hard to swallow

Hi all,
I don't know why, but i've had kinda a sore throat, and it uncomfortable to swallow. I was at Costo, and I had a small piece of blueberry muffing they were passing out, and I took a bite, and I couldnt' swallow. It was horrible. I finally got it down, but i must have taken me well over 10 minutes. Is it spreading or just one of those things. I am in a flair right now, and I really want this to back off some. I'm on 20 mg of Opana ER 2x a day, and I don't have permission to take anyting else. Any suggestions?

Hugs
Mary

Hi Mary,

There are a lot of things going around right now.

My oldest grandson just got over a sinus infection and now Devin has it. They both had sore throats with it.

I've never seen so many people with sinus infections as I am seeing around here now.

You might want to go to the Dr. if it starts getting worse.

Take care,
Ada

Hi Mary,

I sometimes have trouble swallowing... feels like things get stuck. It doesn't feel like a sore throat, only like my swallowing capability just forgets how to work. Kind of like a muscle spasm happens when I try to swallow and I have to get my throat to relax before the food goes down. It's very frightening for me when this happens.

There is some kind of cold going around where I live too... sore throat, coughing, sinus infections... I would rule out a cold or infection.

I hope you feel better soon!!

thank you both for your response. I really though that I would die. I couldn't even spit it out. Very very weird. I'm also really hurting bad. I don't know if it is constipation or a uti, but the pain is something else. I've actually thought of going to the er, but I think I will wait till Mon. and see if dh could take off and take me to the dr. My feet and legs and horrible. It hurts if I sit on the toilet. My legs feel like they have been beaten and burning. For some reason, I don't think the Opana ER is working any more. Morphine of any type seem to work for a couple of days, then it just stops. nothing. I just wish I knew. I'd curl up in a fetal ball but it hurts.

Hugs
Mary

Hi Mary,
I know that is a terrifying experience. I also have swollowing difficulty, but not all the time. There is a physical cause related to rsd, but I don't remember, just what it is. Besides, pain meds, I also take antii-anxiety med, Lorazepam, 2mg 3xday. That relaxes my nervous system, and I feel it helps me to keep level as possible. My Dr. agrees it is a med. that is just as important as pain med. Have you talked yet to your Dr. about the muffin incident? He may want to give you a med, or muscle relaxer to help with this if is becomes a regular problem. I never know when it is going to happen, but I feel it is rare in comparison to before the anxiety med. Also helpful is relaxation techniques, like bio-feedback, and breathing exercises, meditation, visualization for relaxation, music, etc. I love massage, but have cut back on that, not by choice. Our business has suffered from the economy. I'm not able to work and get to jobs like I used to. Have full body now, including face and neck and bad headaches. Was that your first chocking sensation? Hope this helps a little, please let us know what your Dr. says. Take care, loretta

Hi Mary,

Sorry that you are dealing with all of this! I hope things start getting better for you soon and know that you are in my thoughts!!

I have swallowing difficulties sometimes too, although I don't get a sore throat with mine. It is very scary and I sometimes feel as though I am about to choke because of it. It feels like something is wedged in the back of my throat and it wont allow the food to go down properly.

I went to see my GP about it last year and he said he thought it was 'stress related'. He doesn't know anything about RSD really though so doesn't know that you can get it internally with muscle spasms.

I'm not sure what mine is caused by but I suspect it is RSD. Its so difficult sometimes to tell what is RSD and what isn't.

Sorry I can't help you that much. Just know that you aren't alone though. If the problem persists, I would definitiely go and speak to your dr about it and see if they can give you something to help.

Thinking about you!

I have also had the same problem recently. It started about 3-4 months ago. Sometimes it feels like the food is trying to go up behind my nasal passages as well as being stuck in my throat. I am not sure what is going on with me I just chalk it up to something else I have to deal with. I also notice if my throat gets to dry I really struggle to swallow anything at all and it feels as if my throat is trying to close up on me until i get some liquids in me. I don't know if anyone else has had that feeling with there throat or not and maybe again it is just me being me again. I have had no sore throats at all these things just happen. I have not been sick either so I often wondered what might be going on but sometimes I just think it is just me.
Good luck to everyone and take care of youselves.

Sincerely,
Tracy(screwballpookie)

When I said sore throat, I should have qualified it to mean more throat hurts like I've had something stuck there and it made it sore. I'm goinjg to call my dr tomorrow morning and talk to him. The other thing that I have had, at the sametime, is that I can't swallow at night. I tend to get my head, neck and shoulder wet. It's so scary no being able to swallow your own saliva at night. Also, there sees to be a big lump in my throat. Only 1 more day till I can call him.

Hugs
Mary

New symptoms

Hi Mary

Every change in my body that's occurred since I got RSD and it's spread is just so totally scary. I've panicked lately when I've had backaches, or my ears are buzzing, or my feet hurt a lot. And I think my panic just makes things seem worse and causes me to get really tense and depressed. I am even beginning to wonder if some of my symptoms that I think are RSD could be related to my meds - I increased the amount of Topamax that I was taking earlier this month. Maybe your new med needs to be tweaked, I know you were so happy with it at first. And check the side effects (webmd.com).

Also, I have found that sometimes the pain in my feet is really bad, and sometimes it's more tolerable, and if I walk on them a lot then they tend to go numb and then I can't feel them at all. Same with my back, the pain is intermittent and sometimes isn't that bad.

I hope that you doing OK. Please take care. Sandy

Hi Mary,

I read somewhere that we with rsd/crps have less saliva which can make swollowing difficult. I know I have a hard time. Could dryness have been a contributing factor?

Sally
