my '91 accident was the worst one physically and financially. in the best case i would have had 3 insurance companies to stack. because i could not get a fair settlement, i paid for medical bills and lost wages from my own funds acquired from credit cards. the settlement was delayed 4 yrs from the injuries and i was left holding a $10K credit card bill for living expenses and medical. it took me from 1995 until the sale of my farm in 2003 to get out of credit card debt. this really only moved the debt onto the mortgage on my new house. i estimate the accident cost me about $50K over the years, and continues to cost me in physical damages to my body. just yesterday i went for an mri in my knee that was injured in this wreck. nobody ever bothered to do an mri before now.

ok, that's the history. during the 6 mo directly following the accident i would have committed suicide if i had known how to. since i did not know how i plotted heinous revenge on the insurance companies in my poor sick brain (which was concussed). one of the insurance companies i will call "abc" insurance.

today my dad gave me a hard time about my insurance company i have for my auto and home. he went out and got a quote for less money from "abc". i don't know how to tell my dad i would rather chew my leg off than get involved with this outfit. no matter how much money i would save. i anticipate going home and being forced into some kind of argument over it.

i really dread going home now. i have been crying just remembering this crap.

Just ask if you can discuss it later.

Maybe ask your current insurance agent to compare the rates and coverage. You may find out your ins policy is better. You may be willing to give up some coverage for a better rate. Not advisable. I think you need to buy added PIP, underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage for your own protection. Then of course, added limits of liability if you possibly can afford these extras. It is expensive. If you need it, you're covered. Or that's the way I think it's supposed to work.

There's a lot of options with coverage. May be worth having an open mind about. Not necessarily with the abc ins co. If you don't want to because you were injured by them, I wouldn't give them a dime of my money either.

I've held out like that for one reason or another. Don't regret it in the least, even though I paid the price. Just the way it T-I-is. :hug:

I'd get many quotes from all companies if I was looking, did it a couple years ago but we have multi car discounts, accident free discounts, and this fall if we add our home ins it will be another discount across the board for that.
plus long time with same company=some benefits too.

A lot of it is your agent too, do they work with you or just sign you up and no updates or policy reviews after that??

Our old agent retired {no reviews with her at all:(} and our new agent is really nice and helpful , met with her twice now and I'm quite impressed.
she actually ran the numbers to show how much more of a discount we would get if we add the home policy with them also.

But I don't know what to suggest saying to your dad.
sometimes when someone suggests things to me , I just say I'll check it out later and leave it at that.
And hope it doesn't come up again... if it does I usually say I forgot about it and will get to it later.
hopefully after a few of those they will get the clue that I'm not really interested.:o

power saw distraction
 

i showed up with my new power saw and whipped out the owners guide. dad happily read and casually mentioned he was confused about the abc quote anyway. we went out and bought ice cream and were happy campers. after my yoga i was smiling and feeling no pain.
