Default Jurnista (hydromorphone) anyone?

Seeing as my oxycontin side effects now far outweigh the benefits, my pain dr has suggest I swap it for Jurnista- the brand name of hydromorphone- so I'm researching it now before I decide what to do.

I'd be taking 16mg a day, in one slow release tablet that lasts 24 hours. I have found some factual info about this med, but no personal stories from RSDers.

Has anyone had any experience with this medication?

Thanks,
Kate

Hi Kate, just been prescribed jurnista instead of oxycontin, haven't started it yet but will let you know. Interested to hear what you decide.

Hi cate , well its taken a while through different treatments , some with drugs and herbs , exercise and therapies to come to the point that a pain less existence really is good , i have similar feelings of my oxycodone ,oxycontin , and then was prescribed jurnista that made me vomit , the pain control was good and that was a 8mg tab once a day, the vomitting was hard to take as i was not used to this med , but it worked wonders and maybe will have to go to a 4mg tab to c if that is kinder to my stomach , till i get used to it . Even oxycontin s/release upsets my stomach. My slleep less nights are over with the pain releif tabs and during the day it cuts out the unbearable pain my foot gives me . hope this may help or u may have a bit more on this topic to tell me , i still cant wear any shoes or socks , since 2009.

Hi Cake,

The only experience I have ever had was with Avinza, which is also a morphine based drug. It worked well for the pain but dryed out my mouth very badly which in turn did a number on my teeth. The dentist did give me a medication to bring moisture back to my mouth, but he did feel if this was a side effect for me I should use something else. So I did I was only on it about 3 months and my doctor switched me to something else. This doesn't happen to everyone from what I have been told but it's something to watch out for.
